Thu Oct 19 202313:37No Timetable For Codi Heuer's Return
Chicago Cubs right-hander Codi Heuer (elbow) has completed his initial healing and range-of-motion rehab, but there remains no timetable on his return. He's scheduled to begin a throwing program in the middle of November after having surgery to fix a fractured right elbow in late June. The 27-year-old has time on his side this offseason as he rehabs, but his availability for the start of spring training in 2024 is still up in the air. As long as Heuer avoids setbacks this winter, he'll have a shot at being ready for the start of the regular season next year. Heuer hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021, when he had a 4.28 ERA (3.97 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, two saves, 23 walks and 56 strikeouts in 67 1/3 relief innings for the Cubs and Chicago White Sox.

Sat Jun 24 202314:18Codi Heuer Done For The Year
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer (elbow) will miss the remainder of the year. The 26-year-old, who had been working his way back from Tommy John surgery in March 2022, underwent another procedure on Friday to repair an elbow fracture. Heuer last played in 2021 and has a career 10-4 record with a 3.56 ERA, 81 strikeouts, three saves, and 23 holds. It's unknown what the future has in store for the oft-injured right-hander. However, it doesn't look promising, so his fantasy value can't get any lower.

Mon May 1 202314:33Codi Heuer Could Return In Mid-June
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer (elbow) has been getting consistent work during simulated games in Arizona, with his last session coming on Saturday. He resumed facing hitters on April 11 after having Tommy John surgery on March 7 of last year. Heuer missed all of last season, but barring any setbacks, he estimated this spring that he could target a "mid-June, early July" return from the injured list. He was put on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 20. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 4.28 ERA, including a 3.14 ERA in 25 appearances down the stretch, in 65 appearances for the Cubbies in 2021. He was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the Craig Kimbrel trade.

Fri Apr 21 202312:27Jameson Taillon Playing Catch, Codi Heuer To Throw Sim Game
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (groin), who landed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday with a left groin strain, played light toss on Thursday and will do so again on Friday. Meanwhile, right-hander Codi Heuer (elbow) will throw a one-inning simulated game in Arizona on Saturday. Taillon's injury isn't too severe, so there's a chance he'll be ready to come off the injured list when he's eligible and rejoin Chicago's starting rotation in early May. The 31-year-old right-hander has allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 15 hits while walking four and striking out 16 in 14 innings in his first three starts for the Cubbies. Heuer is recovering after having Tommy John surgery, and there's no timetable for his return to the big leagues.

Mon Feb 20 202314:08Codi Heuer Placed On 60-Day Injured List
On Monday, Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list. The right-hander, who missed the 2022 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery, was placed on the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for new signing Michael Fulmer. Heuer has thrown 91 innings at the Major League level so far during his career, including 67.1 innings during the 2021 campaign. In 2021, the right-hander logged a 4.28 ERA, a 3.97 FIP, 56 strikeouts, and 23 walks to go along with seven pitcher wins, 17 holds, and a pair of saves in those 67.1 innings. As of now, Chicago's current late-inning options include the likes of Fulmer, Rowan Wick, Brandon Hughes, and Brad Boxberger.

Tue Mar 8 202214:34Codi Heuer Out For 2022 After Tommy John Surgery
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer (elbow) will miss all of the 2022 season after having successful Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the situation. The 25-year-old was part of the trade that sent closer Craig Kimbrel to the Chicago White Sox last year. Heuer is a hard-throwing, high-leverage reliever who posted a 3.14 ERA in 28 2/3 innings for the Cubs in 2021. The right-hander had a 5.12 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 39 strikeouts and 10 walks in 38 2/3 relief innings for the White Sox before he was traded at midseason. Heuer's injury is a big loss for the Cubs, as they were likely planning to use him as a late-inning setup man to closer Rowan Wick. Manuel Rodriguez and Brad Wieck could get more opportunities in the eighth inning now.

Tue Aug 17 202122:33Codi Heuer Picks Up First Save
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer recorded his first save of the season in Tuesday's victory versus the Cincinnati Reds. Heuer recorded the final six outs of the game and struck out two with no hits or walks allowed. Saves have been few and far between with the Cubs since the trade deadline and the Cubs have used three different pitchers for saves with the departure of Craig Kimbrel. Heuer came over from the White Sox as part of the return for Kimbrel and is now 4-2 with a 4.44 ERA and one save between the two clubs this season. With the Cubs not providing many save chances and also operating as a committee, managers don't need to rush to the waiver wire for Heuer.
