Thu Mar 2821:50Griffin Jax Closes Out Royals Thursday
Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Griffin Jax secured an Opening Day save in Thursday's 4-1 victory over the division-rival Kansas City Royals, firing a hitless ninth inning to close out the win. Filling in for the injured Jhoan Duran (oblique), Jax did make things somewhat interesting by walking Bobby Witt Jr. before facing the heart of KC's order, but he retired the next three hitters. Duran will be on the shelf for at least the first two weeks of the campaign, so Jax should stay atop the depth chart until at least mid-April. The 29-year-old right-hander was excellent as a setup man for the Twins in 2023, registering a 3.86 ERA (2.86 xERA), 1.17 WHIP, and 68:19 K:BB across 65 1/3 frames a season ago. Currently rostered in 57% of Yahoo leagues, Jax should not be floating around any fantasy waiver wires as the clear-cut favorite for saves out of Minnesota's bullpen in the interim.

Fri Aug 25 202308:11Griffin Jax Grabs The Save Thursday
Minnesota Twins right-hander Griffin Jax was used in the ninth inning of the 7-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday. He walked and struck out one without allowing a hit or a run to earn his second save of the season. Over 53 1/3 innings, Jax owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 23.1% strikeout rate with 19 holds. The 28-year-old doesn't have much value in standard leagues, with Jhoan Duran closing the majority of games, but fantasy managers should be happy with his production in hold formats.

Tue Jul 25 202300:28Griffin Jax Blows Save Monday
Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Griffin Jax blew his sixth save of the season in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Mariners. Jax entered the game to pitch the top of the ninth up by one. He got the first two outs on a groundout and strikeout but then allowed a single and a go-ahead two-run home run before getting the final out on a groundout. Teammate Jhoan Duran, who serves as the team's closer, had pitched the two previous days, so he was likely unavailable to close this one out. Jax has pitched well overall this season with a 3.19 ERA and 14 holds in 42 1/3 innings pitched. However, his fantasy value is limited given Duran's secure hold on the team's closer's role.

Thu Jun 15 202309:04Griffin Jax Earns His First Save On Wednesday
Minnesota Twins reliever Griffin Jax closed out Wednesday's 4-2 win against the Milwaukee Brewers, grabbing his first save of the season. After Jhoan Duran pitched the eighth, the club called on the 28-year-old for the ninth, and he threw a perfect frame while striking out one. Jax is now sporting a 3.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 25.8% strikeout rate with seven holds across 29 innings. Duran is still the main closer in Minnesota, but the right-hander may be due for a few more saves this season as he continues to be used in high-leverage situations.

Sun Sep 5 202117:07Griffin Jax Fails To Make It To Fifth Inning Sunday
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Griffin Jax didn't have his best stuff in Sunday's no-decision against the Rays. Jax pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while walking one. He struck out just three batters. Jax was gifted a four-run lead by the Twins offense but couldn't hold it, allowing runs to cross the plate in the third and fifth innings. The results haven't been good lately for the 26-year-old, who has surrendered a total of 19 earned runs over his last 14 1/3 innings pitched while seeing a dip in the strikeout numbers. Jax can safely be dropped, as he is sporting an ERA north of 6.70.

Tue Aug 10 202123:23Griffin Jax Strikes Out Career-High 10 Batters In Third Win
Minnesota Twins pitcher Griffin Jax put together the best start of his career in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. Jax recorded the first quality start of his career, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work, fanning a career-high 10 batters while issuing just one walk. The right-hander had his slider, which had been good for a 34.3 percent whiff rate coming into the start, firing on all cylinders, as it accounted for nine of his 14 swinging strikes. Jax has now held down a tough White Sox lineup twice in his last four starts, though he's been pretty good during that stretch overall, yielding just six runs over his last 20 1/3 innings with a 21:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Jax should be on the streaming radar in his next matchup against Cleveland at home. The Indians' lineup has posted a 24.6 percent strikeout rate when hitting on the road this season.

Fri Aug 6 202109:07Griffin Jax Earns Second Win After Solid Performance
Minnesota Twins pitcher Griffin Jax earned his second victory of the season over a tough Astros lineup Thursday. Jax went 5 1/3 innings, surrendering just one run on three hits while walking one. He didn't record any strikeouts and pitched to a fair amount of contact, but he was able to keep the ball in the park, inducing seven groundballs and nine fly balls. Jax has allowed just three runs over his last 14 1/3 innings, seemingly earning his keep in the Twins' rotation. However, the low strikeout rate and high barrel rate seem likely to catch up to him eventually, making him avoidable in fantasy formats.

Sat Jul 31 202112:21Griffin Jax Effective Over Five Innings
Minnesota Twins pitcher Griffin Jax pitched well despite not factoring into the decision. Jax pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits while issuing a pair of walks. He was able to keep the Cardinals off-balance despite not missing many bats in the outing, as evidenced by his 85.3 MPH average exit velocity against. The 26-year-old still owns an unimpressive 6.41 ERA but has allowed just two runs in his last two outings against productive lineups. He looks like he could earn himself another turn in the rotation for Minnesota.

Fri Jul 30 202113:54Griffin Jax Will Start For Twins Tonight
Minnesota Twins pitcher Griffin Jax will start for the team on Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 26-year-old previously made his Major League debut this season. He's made six appearances for the Twins, two of which have been starts. Overall, the right-hander has pitched to a 7.48 ERA and a 6.76 FIP in 21.2 innings while striking out 20 batters and walking nine. Even against a Cardinals lineup that can struggle to score runs, you're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options.
