Sat Apr 1309:11Dany Jimenez Blows Save Friday
Oakland Athletics reliever Dany Jimenez was called upon to lock down the game in the ninth inning on Friday against the Nationals, only to blow the save opportunity, although thankfully the A's hung on to win the game 2-1. With their closer Mason Miller unavailable to pitch due to recent workload, Jimenez was tasked with holding down a 1-0 lead and promptly gave up a home run to the first batter he saw. It was the only run he allowed in the inning, but the righty also allowed a double while striking out two batters. The 30-year-old saved 11 games for the A's back in 2022, but just once last year and he probably won't get many more opportunities this season with Mason Miller looking like a legit stopper in the ninth.

Wed Feb 712:27Dany Jimenez, Trevor Gott In The Closer Mix
The Oakland Athletics don't have a clear No. 1 option for saves in 2024 and they could look to mix and match between several options. Along with young right-hander Mason Miller, righties Dany Jimenez and Trevor Gott could also be involved. "Dany [Jimnez] is the guy right now who has done it the most. Trevor [Gott] has experience pitching in the back of a game, and when he signed here, we talked about giving him that opportunity. Mason Miller's stuff sort of lends itself to thinking he can close. Those three guys right now are probably the most likely candidates," general manager David Forst said. Jimenez, 30, has the most experience of the trio and has 12 career saves in the last two seasons. He's probably the safest flier for saves on a bad team. Miller, meanwhile, has the best pure upside and stuff, but he' also the riskiest because of his injury history.

Fri Feb 220:10Mason Miller, Trevor Gott, Dany Jimenez In Closer Mix
Oakland Athletics general manager David Forst said that right-handers Mason Miller, Trevor Gott and Dany Jimenez will be in the closer mix with spring training approaching quickly. The A's want to see Miller get through a full season healthy, and Forst didn't rule out a return to a starting role for Miller after 2024. The 25-year-old missed most of his rookie season in 2023 due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow. Aside from being a major injury risk -- he has gone over 60 innings only twice since college -- Miller has elite stuff on a really bad team in a favorable pitcher's park. He has the most upside but also the most risk out of Gott and Jimenez, and a closer committee in Oakland is about as unattractive as it gets for fantasy managers speculating on saves from a high-leverage bullpen role.

Mon Jul 17 202312:35Dany Jimenez Throws Live Batting Practice Session
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez (shoulder) felt good after throwing 15 pitches during a live batting practice session over the weekend at the Coliseum. Jimenez was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on April 19 with a right-shoulder strain. Although he's making progress, there remains no timetable for his return to the active roster. The 29-year-old will eventually require what could be a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment, so he still has a ways to go before he can rejoin Oakland's bullpen in a late-inning role. He made seven relief appearances for the A's before his injury and allowed four earned runs on four hits while walking six and striking out four with one save in 6 2/3 innings.

Wed Apr 19 202316:00Trevor May Lands On 15-Day IL, Dany Jimenez Moved To 60-Day IL
The Oakland Athletics placed relief pitcher Trevor May on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with issues related to anxiety and also transferred reliever Dany Jimenez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list. Jimenez landed on the IL on Tuesday night and May follows him there a day later after posting a bloated 12.00 ERA with nine walks and eight earned runs allowed in just six innings of work so far this year. There's no timetable for when May might return to Oakland's bullpen, and with Jimenez out for an extended period of time as well, Zach Jackson appears to be the best bet for saves now in the team's bullpen. However, with the A's being one of the worst teams in all of baseball, Jackson probably won't be afforded many save chances.

Tue Apr 18 202323:17Dany Jimenez Lands On 15-Day Injured List Tuesday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez (shoulder) was put on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a strained right shoulder and pitcher Adam Oller was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move, according to the team. Jimenez is the team's primary closer, but he blew his last save chance on Sunday and has just one save with a 5.40 ERA (8.73 FIP), 1.50 WHIP, six walks and four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings pitched so far this year. The A's aren't going to give him many save opportunities this year, and now he's on the shelf for at least the next two weeks. At least while Jimenez is out, Trevor May should be the team's primary closer, making him worth a pickup for those that are desperate for saves. May hasn't been much better with a 7.94 ERA, 2.82 WHIP, eight free passes and six K's in 5 2/3 frames.

Mon Apr 17 202309:04Dany Jimenez Blows Sunday's Save Opportunity
Oakland Athletics right-hander Dany Jimenez came into Sunday's game looking to shut down the New York Mets in the ninth inning with a one-run lead. Things didn't go as planned, as the 29-year-old gave up a run on one hit and three walks while recording just one out, a strikeout, before being replaced. Oakland eventually lost the game 4-3 in extra innings. Jimenez hasn't had the start to the season fantasy managers have hoped for, pitching to a 5.40 ERA with four strikeouts and six walks across 6.2 innings. He has the only save of the club's staff, but was never given the closer title and will likely be sharing save chances with Trevor May and Jeurys Familia even if he improves.

Fri Mar 31 202308:04Dany Jimenez Picks Up Athletics First Save
Oakland Athletics reliever Dany Jimenez pitched the ninth inning of the team's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels Thursday night. He allowed no runs, walked one, and struck out one en route to his first save of the season. It wasn't certain who the closer would be coming into the year, with Jimenez, Jeurys Familia, and Trevor May all candidates for the ninth inning. But after posting a 3.41 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 11 saves over 34.1 innings in 2022, the 29-year-old might be in line for the bulk of save opportunities moving forward. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on this situation for the time being.

Mon Mar 27 202318:23Trevor May, Jeurys Familia, Dany Jimenez Options For Saves
Oakland Athletics relief pitchers Trevor May, Jeurys Familia and Dany Jimenez could all be used in save situations this year, according to manager Mark Kotsay. "I think we'll start out with the mindset that they're all options," Kotsay said. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too interested in the A's closing picture unless you're scrounging for save opportunities in AL-only leagues. May has 12 career saves in eight big-league seasons, Familia has 125 career saves in 11 major-league campaigns and Jimenez picked up his first 11 saves for the A's in 2022 in his second MLB season. This could be a straight committee approach, which makes speculating on any of these relievers dicey in fantasy. Jimenez has the most upside.

Tue Mar 7 202313:06Dany Jimenez Struggling With Velocity In Camp
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez has been struggling with his velocity so far in spring training. The 29-year-old Dominican right-hander got up to the low-90s on the radar gun in his most recent Cactus League outing, but before that he topped out in the upper-80s with his fastball. It's something to keep an eye on after Jimenez ended the 2022 campaign with right shoulder issues. Jimenez is still one to watch for saves in Oakland, but hopefully he'll show more life with his pitches as we near Opening Day at the end of March. In his rookie season in 2022, he had a 3.41 ERA (3.46 FIP), 1.19 WHIP, his first 11 saves (a team high) and 34 strikeouts in 34 1/3 relief innings. Walks could also be an issue again, so Jimenez is merely an option for save speculators in deeper leagues.

Sun Aug 28 202200:19Dany Jimenez Placed On 60-Day IL
Oakland Athletics reliever Dany Jimenez was placed on the 60-day IL on Saturday with a right shoulder strain, effectively ending his season. The right-hander missed a month and a half with an injury to his throwing shoulder already this year, but the club has yet to state if he'll need any offseason procedures to help get him back to full health. Jimenez led the team with 11 saves to go along with a 3.41 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 34 K through 34 1/3 IP to give fantasy managers who waited on relievers on draft day some waiver wire value. Zach Jackson and A.J. Puk who have collected three saves apiece already this year will likely split save opportunities moving forward.

Sat Jul 30 202211:16Dany Jimenez Strikes Out The Side Friday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez (shoulder) pitched one inning in a minor league rehab outing for Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday and struck out the side without allowing a hit or a walk. Jimenez threw 16 pitches in his first minor league outing while he recovers from a right shoulder strain that put him on the injured list in late June. Before his injury, Jimenez was the team's primary closer in Oakland, so he should return to the ninth-inning role once he's ready. There's a chance he'll be reinstated from the injured list at some point this weekend. Before his injury, the 28-year-old had a 4.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 11 saves and 23 strikeouts in 24 2/3 relief innings in 2022. Lou Trivino has been filling in as the A's closer with Jimenez out.

Tue Jun 21 202216:20Dany Jimenez Placed On 15-Day Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed relief pitcher Dany Jimenez (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday due to a right shoulder strain. The move comes as a bit of a surprise as there'd been no indication that he was hurt going into the week. As of this writing, there's no word on the severity of his injury. Jimenez leads the A's with 11 saves on the year, but he'd been struggling lately, pitching to an ugly 13.50 ERA over 4.2 innings this month. A.J. Puk and Zach Jackson have been the team's top two relievers recently and either could be an option for saves with Jimenez out. The team could also opt to give Lou Trivino another shot at the closing role. He opened the year as the team's closer, but he's been dreadful with an 8.66 ERA and a 1.98 WHIP on the season. If you want to gamble on someone here, take a chance on Puk, who has a stellar 1.93 ERA and 5.2K/BB ratio on the year.

Sat May 21 202212:35Dany Jimenez Locks Down His Eighth Save On Friday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez pitched yet another clean ninth inning in the team's 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. He retired each of the three batters he faced, recording a strikeout and needing just 12 pitches to get through the inning. Jimenez is now a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities on the year with a minuscule 0.55 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. There's no reason to think the A's will turn to anyone else for save opportunities for now. Jimenez is the only A's reliever to earn a save since April 19.

Thu May 12 202216:29Dany Jimenez Tosses A Scoreless Ninth To Earn His Sixth Save
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez continued his strong start to the 2022 season on Thursday. He closed out the team's 5-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers, retiring the three batters he faced in order while recording one strikeout along the way. Jimenez is now 6-for-6 on save opportunities this year and he has yet to allow an earned run across 13 innings. His stellar pitching has led to him becoming the clear top closer for the A's. He should be rostered in all fantasy leagues at this point.

Tue May 10 202200:25Dany Jimenez Notches Fifth Save Of Season Monday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez picked up his fifth save of the season in Monday's 2-0 win over the Tigers. Jimenez entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He allowed a walk to start the inning, struck the next two hitters out, allowed another walk, and ended the game with a third punchout. The 28-year-old has yet to allow a run this season and has 14 strikeouts and five walks over 12 innings pitched. Jimenez began seeing save opportunities once Lou Trivino went on the COVID-19 injured list, so it will be interesting to see how they are divided up now that Trivino is back. The A's may not see that many save opportunities in general and Jimenez has out-pitched Trivino to this point, but both are worth a roster spot in deep roto leagues at this time.

Sun Apr 24 202219:41Dany Jimenez Records His Third Save On Sunday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez converted his third save in as many opportunities on Sunday. He closed out the team's 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while allowing two hits. The 28-year-old is clearly a favorite ninth inning option of the team. However, his last two saves have come with Lou Trivino on the COVID-related injured list. Trivino was 2-for-2 in save opportunities prior to landing on the list. Jimenez hasn't allowed a run over the seven innings he's pitched this year while Trivino has allowed two earned runs over 3.2 innings. There's a good chance that Jimenez can pitch his way to the top of the closer hierarchy in Oakland, but Trivino should still get a shot at maintaining his share of save opportunities once he's back.

Thu Apr 21 202221:50Dany Jimenez Secures His Second Save Thursday
Oakland Athletics pitcher Dany Jimenez struck out two over a scoreless inning to secure the save in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. In the ninth inning, he entered the game to protect a two-run lead and threw a perfect frame to notch his second save of the year. Oakland's primary closer Lou Trivino (illness), is currently on the COVID-19 injured list; Jimenez will get the first shot at saves while Trivino is out. The right-hander is 2-for-2 in save chances with a 1.00 WHIP and nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings in 2022. Jimenez is worth rostering in deep-league formats as he could pick up a few saves and provide fantasy managers with solid ratios.

Thu Apr 14 202218:31Dany Jimenez Records Save On Thursday
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Dany Jimenez pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Rays to earn his first career save. Jimenez worked around a one-out error to protect a three-run lead and help Oakland win the series at Tampa Bay. Closer Lou Trivino had pitched in the two games prior, so Jimenez isn't likely to see another save chance in the near future. Trivino is still the A's reliever to target in fantasy for those searching for saves.
