Tue Apr 1612:10Edward Cabrera Fans 10 In No-Decision
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera really dazzled in his first start of 2024 on Monday against the San Francisco Giants, giving up just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out 10 in six innings to pick up a quality start and no-decision. The 26-year-old began the 2024 campaign on the injured list due to a right-shoulder injury, but he surely didn't look like a pitcher coming off an injury in this one. It was the third time he's had double-digit strikeouts in a game in his young career, and it was nice to see him pounding the strike zone all night. Cabrera went 7-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 66 walks and a career-high 118 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings in 2023 and should be immediately scooped up off the waiver wire in fantasy leagues if he's available after his performance Monday night.

Mon Apr 1509:52A.J. Puk Scratched, Edward Cabrera Activated
Miami Marlins left-hander A.J. Puk has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the visiting San Francisco Giants due to an illness while Edward Cabrera (shoulder) will be activated from the injured list and will start in Puk's place on Monday. Puk's next start has been pushed back to Wednesday. It hasn't been a great start to Puk's season after winning a rotation job coming out of spring training as he sports a 5.91 ERA through three starts and just 10 2/3 innings of work. More concerning is his eye-popping 14 walks in those 10 2/3 frames with just eight strikeouts in that time. As for Cabrera, he has also struggled with control in his Triple-A rehab as he walked 14.8% of the hitters he faced in three starts, although he was able to escape with a 0.71 ERA.

Fri Apr 1220:57Edward Cabrera Scheduled For Minor League Start On Wednesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is scheduled for a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. Cabrera is slated for six innings, or about 90 pitches, in the start. This will be the 25-year-old's third rehab start and, if all goes well, it's likely he will be taken off the injured list and added to the Marlins active roster. "I anticipate him being back in the rotation at some point soon," said Marlins manager Skip Schumaker. The struggling Marlins will surely welcome him back with open arms as their starters currently hold a 4.75 ERA and need as much help as possible to turn around their 2-11 start.

Mon Apr 820:09Edward Cabrera's Next Rehab Start Set For Wednesday
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday and is scheduled for five innings or 80 pitches. In Cabrera's last rehab start, he was able to go four innings last Friday. If the 25-year-old is able to avoid any setbacks with his right shoulder on Wednesday, there's a good chance the Marlins will activate him from the injured list in order to make his 2024 debut. The Marlins are getting some much-needed rotation reinforcements soon in Cabrera and left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) with both Sandy Alcantara (elbow) and Eury Perez (elbow) out for the entire season. Garrett is the more attractive waiver-wire pickup in deep-mixed fantasy leagues, but Cabrera could also be useful for pitching depth if he can get his command under control.

Thu Apr 416:32Edward Cabrera Set For Rehab Start Friday
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is set to throw four innings in a minor-league rehab game on Friday with Triple-A Jacksonville. The Marlins got bad news on Thursday that young righty Eury Perez (elbow) will need Tommy John surgery and miss all of 2024. The good news is the Fish have rotation reinforcements coming in Cabrera and left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder). Cabrera threw three scoreless innings on 43 pitches in his first rehab start with Jacksonville last Sunday, so he's slightly ahead of Garrett, who will be making his first rehab start this Sunday. If the 25-year-old Cabrera looks good in his second rehab start on Friday, the Marlins could decide to activate him from the 15-day injured to make his 2024 big-league debut next week.

Sat Mar 3020:00Edward Cabrera Scheduled For Rehab Start On Sunday
Miami Marlins right-handerEdward Cabrera(shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Miami Marlins' Triple-A club, on Sunday. The 25-year-old is only expected to throw three innings. Cabrera was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement on March 12th and was placed on the team's 15-day injured list. No timetable has been set for his return, but given that the rehab start goes well, he could be looking to return to a Marlins rotation that's missing key pieces. Cabrera will continue to ramp up his workload and likely need a few more rehab starts before returning to the mound.

Wed Mar 2017:33Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett Throw Bullpens
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) and left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) both threw bullpen sessions in camp on Wednesday. Cabrera's bullpen consisted of around 20 pitches (all fastballs), while Garrett got up and down three times and is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session on Sunday. Cabrera, 25, threw for the first time since being diagnosed with a right-shoulder impingement last week. He is going to start the season on the injured list and will need several more bullpens before facing live hitters again. Garrett, 26, also won't be ready for Opening Day but could make his 2024 debut before the end of April. The Marlins' starting rotation is really limping to the starting line this year with Cabrera, Garrett and Eury Perez (elbow, finger) all ailing.

Fri Mar 1514:22Edward Cabrera Playing Catch Friday
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera is playing catch on Friday as he recovers from a confirmed right shoulder impingement. An MRI didn't reveal any structural damage in the 25-year-old's shoulder as the issue appears to be more of the day-to-day variety. Cabrera worked to a 4.24 ERA across 22 outings (20 starts) last season and punched out a hearty 27.2% of the hitters he faced. At the same time, he also walked a bloated 15.2% of the batters he faced while he sports a career 14% BB% in 197 2/3 frames at the big-league level. Cabrera has the stuff to be a fantasy asset due to a 26.2% K% in his big-league career but if his control doesn't improve his fantasy value will be capped.

Tue Mar 1212:08Edward Cabrera Has Right-Shoulder Impingement
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a right-shoulder impingement after undergoing an MRI exam. "Day-to-day thing," said manager Skip Schumaker. Cabrera has avoided any structural damage in his shoulder, but he also missed around a month in 2023 with a similar injury, so fantasy managers shouldn't just assume that the 25-year-old hurler will be able to pitch when the regular season kicks off in a couple of weeks. We should know more later this week on whether Cabrera will need to go on the injured list to start the year. In his third year in the big leagues in 2023, Cabrera went 7-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 118 K's and 66 walks in 99 2/3 innings. Injuries and walks are concerning, but when Cabrera is on like he was to close out last year, he has the ability to be a fantasy asset with a career 26.2% strikeout rate.

Mon Mar 1118:25Edward Cabrera To Undergo MRI
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI, according to manager Skip Schumaker. The right-hander was supposed to take the mound on Sunday, but didn't due to shoulder tightness. The organization said that it was a precautionary move, but it makes sense that they want to do imaging as well. Cabrera was off to a hot spring, so hopefully, it's just a minor setback for him. Fantasy managers will have to check back later after the imaging is done.

Sun Mar 1014:30Edward Cabrera Exits Early On Sunday
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera departed his Sunday start before throwing a pitch due to right shoulder tightness. He finished his warmup tosses before trainers came out to evaluate him and he ultimately walked off the field with what the team is calling precautionary reasons. The 25-year-old has yet to allow a run across five Grapefruit League games this spring, striking out five against zero walks in that time. After he worked to a 2.22 ERA across five starts at Triple-A in the 2023 season, Cabrera posted a 4.24 ERA in 22 outings (20 starts) with the Marlins a season ago, punching out a healthy 27.2% of the hitters he faced in that time. More word on his status should be made available in the coming days but Cabrera remains a solid fantasy asset for the 2024 season.

Wed Feb 1400:22Pirates, Marlins Discussing Edward Cabrera Trade
In an attempt to bolster their starting rotation, the Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly been in contact with the Miami Marlins to discuss a trade involving starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey. Such a deal would involve the Pirates sending one of three infielders: Liover Peguero, Nick Gonzales, or Ji Hwan Bae. Cabrera has shown plenty of strikeout upside but a lack of control so far in his big-league career, going 7-7 with a 4.24 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 27.2% strikeout rate, and 15.2% walk rate in 99 2/3 innings pitched in 2023. From a fantasy perspective, a Cabrera trade from the Marlins, who have had a knack for developing young pitchers in recent history to the Pirates would be a hit on his fantasy value.

Sat Dec 16 202319:50Edward Cabrera, Jesus Luzardo Drawing More Trade Interest
Miami Marlins starting pitchers Jesus Luzardo and Edward Cabrera continue to draw trade interest. Luzardo has three years of team control left while Cabrera has five. Rosenthal goes on to say new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix may be more open to moving a starter than previous general manager Kim Ng. Both pitchers are young, talented arms who could help the Marlins get back some needed hitting. Luzardo struck out 208 over 178 2/3 innings. He started Game 1 of the wild card series. Cabrera didn't have the same success as Luzardo, but he has the talent to be of interest to almost any team. For fantasy managers, the two will be names to look out for. Luzardo will cost a good draft pick but Cabrera will cost less and also has the potential to be a value pick, wherever the two end up pitching.

Thu Nov 30 202321:26Teams Interested In Edward Cabrera, Trevor Rogers
MLB teams have shown interest in Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera and left-hander Trevor Rogers this offseason, according to sources briefed on the Marlins' conversations. Cabrera missed a month with a right-shoulder impingement in 2023 and spent more than a month at Triple-A. In the big leagues, he posted a 4.24 ERA in 99 2/3 frames. The 26-year-old Rogers didn't pitch after April 19 due to a left-biceps strain and then a partial tear in his right lat. Left-handers Jesus Luzardo and Braxton Garrett are likely off limits for the Fish. Texas Rangers infielder Ezequiel Duran is the kind of player Miami would want in return for Cabrera, but the Rangers may not be willing to part with Duran, who was valuable as an injury replacement at shortstop and third base for the World Series-champion Rangers.

Fri Sep 29 202312:13Edward Cabrera Starting On Friday Against Bucs
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera will make the start for the team on Friday in the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cabrera will get the nod to kick off a huge three-game series against the Bucs to close out the 2023 regular season as the Fish look to secure the final wild-card spot in the National League over the Chicago Cubs. The 25-year-old Dominican comes into Friday's game with a 7-7 record, 4.22 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 96 innings over 21 outings (19 starts) this year. He hasn't gone more than 5 1/3 innings in four outings in September, but Cabrera has been pretty great with a 1.89 ERA, .167 opponent's average, 11 walks and 22 strikeouts in four appearances (two starts) covering 19 innings in September.

Wed Sep 6 202316:43Edward Cabrera Recalled And Starting Wednesday
The Miami Marlins recalled right-hander Edward Cabrera from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, and he will make the start against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Cabrera will take the starting-rotation spot of Sandy Alcantara (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. The Marlins sent Cabrera down to the farm on Aug. 1 to better control his workload, and the 25-year-old looked solid in the minors with a 2.22 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings over five starts. While he had 93 strikeouts in 77 innings over 17 starts for the Fish this year before being demoted, he also had a 4.79 ERA (4.67 FIP), 1.47 WHIP and 52 walks. If Cabrera can display better control of his pitches, he could end the year on a high note in Miami as the club tries to secure a postseason spot.

Fri Sep 1 202300:28Edward Cabrera Keeping Walks Down In Triple-A
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera had a solid start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday. Cabrera went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. He now has a 2.22 ERA and a 30:12 K:BB ratio over five outings (28 IP) with Jacksonville after being sent down to work on his control. Of the 12 walks, five came in one outing, and he hasn't walked more than two in any other outing. The Marlins don't have a fifth starter right now, as Bryan Hoeing has been working a bulk relief role, so Cabrera could be called on to start at any point. He is a solid stash in standard formats.

Fri Aug 18 202308:32Edward Cabrera Walks Five In Triple-A Start
Miami Marlins starter Edward Cabrera made his third start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on seven hits, but he walked seven batters to just two strikeouts. The 25-year-old was demoted from the big leagues at the beginning of August after posting a 4.79 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 27.6% strikeout rate, and a bloated 15.4% walk rate across 17 starts. The walks have still been an issue for Cabrera in the minors, as he's sporting an 11.4% walk rate over 17 2/3 innings this year. The Dominican native still has the potential to be a fantasy stud, given his swing-and-miss stuff, but he's really only relevant in dynasty leagues at this point.

Tue Jul 25 202321:46Edward Cabrera Removed Tuesday With Blister
Miami Marlins right-handed hurler Edward Cabrera exited Tuesday's contest with the Tampa Bay Rays with a blister on his throwing hand, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. It's not the first time the rookie has dealt with injuries this season, as he missed over a month with a shoulder issue. Over 15 starts in 2023, Cabrera owns a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 ERA with a 5-5 record but is running a 29.0% strikeout rate. With his talented arm, the 25-year-old is a great option in dynasty formats, and fantasy managers in redraft leagues can roster him for his punchouts and overall potential to keep improving.

Tue Jul 18 202312:00Edward Cabrera To Start Tuesday
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is slated to be activated from the 15-day injured list in order to start on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cabrera didn't make any minor-league rehab starts, but he did throw a five-inning simulated game last Thursday. The 25-year-old will be pretty risky in fantasy lineups on Tuesday because he hasn't pitched in an MLB game since June 13, even though he'll be facing off against the last-place Cardinals in his first start back. Fantasy managers should expect his pitch count to be somewhat limited. Cabrera hasn't been nearly as good as he was last year, going 5-5 with a 4.70 ERA (4.49 FIP), 1.40 WHIP and 41 walks in 67 innings over 14 starts, but he does have a career-high 28.9 percent strikeout rate.
