Sat Apr 2016:25Royce Lewis Begins Baseball Activities
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) has started to begin baseball activities according to the Twins head trainer Nick Paparesta. "We're looking to get him in a running progression probably the end of next week. He's still got some boxes to check, but heading in the right direction," the trainer said. No timetable has been set for the 24-year-old's return though it's still likely he won't be back until closer to the All Star Break. Kyle Farmer and Jose Miranda have been splitting time at third base in Lewis' absence. Farmer has hit for a paltry 15 wRC+ in 41 PA while Miranda has hit for a 119 wRC+ in 28 PA. Fantasy managers shouldn't rush to add either player in Lewis' absence, though Miranda shows more potential currently.

Thu Apr 416:19Royce Lewis Receives PRP Injection
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) said he received a platelet-rich plasma injection to help his right quadriceps muscle heal. Lewis suffered a serious quad strain on Opening Day last Thursday and will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a month. Hopefully, his PRP injection will speed up the healing process in his leg, but the 24-year-old is still going to be out for a while and needs to be stashed in an injured list spot in all fantasy leagues. Since Lewis was injured, Willi Castro has been serving as the team's regular third baseman and has gone just 2-for-16 (.125) with two runs scored, three walks and seven strikeouts in his first 20 plate appearances of the year in five contests.

Sat Mar 3013:40Royce Lewis Has "Severe" Quad Strain
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis has a "severe" quad strain that is going to keep him out long-term. Twins president of baseball operations David Falvey told the media Lewis will require one month of pure recovery before the club will even have an idea of how much additional time he will need before building back up to playing. This was always the risk for fantasy managers this spring as the oft-injured Lewis has appeared in just 71 MLB games since being drafted first overall back in 2017. He tantalized with 15 home runs and a .920 OPS in just 58 games in 2023, leaving managers with a serious risk/reward scenario in drafts this spring. Those who drafted Lewis at his 48.83 ADP are losing that bet just one game into the season.

Sat Mar 3011:05Royce Lewis Going On Injured List
The Minnesota Twins are placing third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) on the injured list on Saturday after injuring his quadriceps on Opening Day on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals. We don't quite know the exact severity of Lewis' injury after he was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam, but it's obviously serious enough to keep him on the shelf for at least the next 10 days. The oft-injured 24-year-old slugger is one of the team's best hitters, but he's had trouble staying healthy in his career so far. The former first overall pick in 2017 had two hits in his only two at-bats on Thursday, including a home run, before being pulled from the game. He should be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues, but hopefully he'll be ready to return from his IL stint when he's eligible.

Thu Mar 2817:57Royce Lewis Exits With Quad Injury
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) was taken out of the game in the third inning of Thursday's Opening Day matchup against the division-rival Kansas City Royals. The 24-year-old came up limping as he rounded third on a Carlos Correa double. At least it's not his surgically repaired knee, but this is certainly not good news, especially for someone with his injury history. Lewis ended last season on a roll and started 2024 off with a bang, hitting a home run in his first at-bat of the season and followed that up with a single before being pulled from the game. We'll expect to find out the extent of the injury after the game.

Mon Feb 2612:53Extension Unlikely For Royce Lewis Right Now
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis is open to a contract extension with the team, but as of right now, that is looking unlikely to happen. The first overall pick in 2017 is a client of agent Scott Boras, but Lewis said he'd be "an idiot" to not listen if the Twins wanted to discuss a long-term deal. Lewis had a breakout 2023 after missing two years with a torn ACL in his right knee. The Twins are in the midst of trimming payroll, potentially up to a $30 million reduction from last year. The 24-year-old is under team control through 2028, too, so the Twins are in no rush. He hit .309/.372/.548 with a .921 OPS, 15 home runs, 52 RBI and six stolen bases in just 58 games for Minnesota in 2023 and is now firmly a top-10 fantasy third baseman heading into the 2024 campaign, although he does come with considerable injury risk.

Thu Dec 14 202314:29Royce Lewis Expected To Play Nearly Every Day In 2024
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis is expected to play nearly every day for the club in the 2024 season. The former top prospect's professional career has been ravaged by a variety of injuries and he appeared in just 58 games in the big leagues last season and even suffered a hamstring injury in the postseason. However, he was a monster on the field when healthy as Lewis hit .309 with 15 home runs, six stolen bases, and an .820 OPS across 239 trips to the plate a season ago, good for production 55% superior to the league average, as per his 155 wRC+. "I think we are all pretty excited about getting to spring training with him healthy for the first time in a while," Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said at the recent Winter Meetings in Nashville. His fantasy stock still carries risk given the long line of injury woes.

Tue Oct 10 202312:31Royce Lewis Starting At Third Base In Game 3
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) is making his first start at third base in the postseason in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier. Lewis is hitting cleanup for the Twins. The 24-year-old strained his left hamstring on Sept. 19 and took some time off to close out the regular season before returning to designated hitter duties for the wild-card series and the first two games of the ALDS over the weekend. The hamstring injury hasn't been a problem for him at all at the plate so far, as he's gone 4-for-15 with three home runs, four RBI and five runs scored in his first four postseason contests. Edouard Julien is the DH and batting leadoff, while Jorge Polanco mans the keystone and hits in the two-hole for the Twins on Tuesday.

Thu Oct 5 202318:44Royce Lewis Not Ready To Play Defense
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) is expected to remain at designated hitter for the forthcoming ALDS against the Houston Astros. Lewis returned from a left hamstring strain in time to help the Twins sweep the Toronto Blue Jays during the AL Wild Card series, notably popping two home runs in Game 1. But Minnesota will opt to play things safely with the former No. 1 overall pick, whose bat they will surely want to preserve after he slashed .309/.372/.548 with 15 home runs, 52 RBI, and six stolen bases in 239 regular-season plate appearances. Jorge Polanco will likely continue to fill in at third base until Lewis, whose hamstring hasn't significantly improved yet, gets a green light to return defensively.

Tue Oct 3 202312:37Royce Lewis Hitting Third In Return To Twins Lineup
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) was included on the team's roster for the wild-card series and is serving as the designated hitter and batting third on Tuesday against Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Lewis hasn't played since Sept. 19 due to a mild left-hamstring strain and isn't quite 100 percent, but he was good enough to be included on the postseason roster and will likely serve exclusively as Minnesota's DH in this series against Toronto. The 24-year-old missed extensive time due to injury this year, but he was great when on the diamond, slashing .309/.372/.548 with a .921 OPS, 15 home runs, 52 RBI, six stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 217 at-bats. Lewis has two hits and an RBI in his only two at-bats against Gausman.

Mon Oct 2 202322:32Royce Lewis, Carlos Correa Expected To Be Ready For Wild-Card Series
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) and shortstop Carlos Correa (foot) are both expected to be on the team's 26-man roster for the wild-card series against the Toronto Blue Jays, which begins on Tuesday. Both players have been out of the lineup for the better part of two weeks, Lewis with a Grade 1 left-hamstring strain and Correa with plantar fasciitis. Team sources suggest that Lewis will likely be limited to designated hitter. Lewis is feeling good at the plate, but he still hasn't run at 100% and is clearly not at full strength. Correa last played a day before Lewis on Sept. 18 after feeling a pop in his left heel. He was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis back in May, but acknowledged the time off has been beneficial. Having both Lewis and Correa available will be a big boost, but it remains to be seen how productive they'll be while battling through their respective injuries.

Wed Sep 27 202322:58Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton Take Part In Sim Game
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) and outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton (knee) took part in simulated game action at Target Field on Wednesday. Lewis hit a home run. Neither Lewis nor Buxton are going to help fantasy managers from here on out, but the Twins could get them both back for the playoffs. Lewis suffered mild left-hamstring strain last Tuesday and is eligible to come off the injured list on Sunday, the final day of the regular season. The 24-year-old has missed plenty of time with injuries in 2023, but when he's been on the field, he's been great, and the Twins would love to have his bat in the lineup for the postseason. Buxton suffered a setback with patellar tendinitis in his right knee in early September while on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 29-year-old hasn't really been healthy all year and may not be on Minnesota's playoff roster.

Fri Sep 22 202316:07Royce Lewis Goes On Injured List
The Minnesota Twins placed infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a left-hamstring strain and recalled outfielder Jordan Luplow from the minors in a corresponding move. Lewis injured his hamstring on Tuesday and will now miss the conclusion of the 2023 regular season. It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old will be back in time for the start of the postseason. The former first overall pick in 2017 has dealt with his fair share of injuries, but he was dynamic when on the field for Minnesota this year, hitting .309/.372/.548 with a .921 OPS, 15 home runs (four grand slams), 52 RBI, six stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 217 at-bats. Carlos Correa (foot) is also currently sidelined, so Kyle Farmer will handle the 6 and Willi Castro will handle third base for the Twins moving forward.

Wed Sep 20 202312:12Royce Lewis To Have MRI Exam This Weekend
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) will have an MRI exam on his injured hamstring when the team returns home this weekend. Lewis tweaked his hamstring in the game on Tuesday night and had to be removed. It's a situation that is yet to be determined, which means he's a candidate to go on the injured list. It's bad news for the Twins infield situation, as they just put shortstop Carlos Correa (foot) on the injured list as well while he deals with plantar fasciitis. Given the 24-year-old's injury history, it wouldn't be surprising if he was shut down for the rest of the regular season. Kyle Farmer should see everyday playing time at the 6 with Correa out, while Willi Castro should be a mainstay at the hot corner while Lewis heals up. Check back this weekend for an update on Lewis' condition and whether he has a chance to return this year.

Tue Sep 19 202322:21Royce Lewis Injured Tuesday
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) left Tuesday's game early against the Cincinnati Reds with left-hamstring tightness. Lewis initially injured his hamstring in the sixth inning and tried to stay in before eventually leaving in the eighth frame. For now, he's being considered day-to-day, so fantasy managers will want to check back on Wednesday to see if he's able to return to the lineup. Before leaving, the 24-year-old went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. The former first overall pick in 2017 has only played in 58 games this year due to injuries, but when he's been active he's been great for the Twins and fantasy managers. Lewis entered Tuesday's contest hitting .308 (66-for-214) with 15 home runs (four grand slams), seven doubles, 52 RBI, six stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 235 plate appearances.

Sat Sep 16 202312:25Royce Lewis Hits Another Grand Slam
Minnesota Twins infielder/outfielder Royce Lewis continues to have a flare for the dramatic with the bases loaded, as he hit a franchise-record fourth grand slam on Friday in the 10-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Lewis also became the first player in MLB history with five grand slams among his first 16 career home runs. The 24-year-old went 1-for-2 in the game with four RBI, two runs scored, three walks and one strikeout. Lewis missed a lot of time due to injury this year, but he's making up for it and is now slashing .302/.365/.545 with a .909 OPS, 14 home runs, 50 RBI, six stolen bases and 34 runs scored in his 202 at-bats for the Twins. He's been hot in September, going 15-for-52 (.289) with five homers, two doubles, 21 RBI, four steals and 13 runs scored in just 14 starts.

Tue Sep 12 202300:23Royce Lewis Smashes 12th Homer Of Season Monday
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis continued to crush the ball in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Rays. Lewis went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and two strikeouts. Despite dealing with injuries at the beginning of the season, the 24-year-old has continued to show why he was a top fantasy prospect, slashing .312/.363/.540 with 12 HR, 44 RBI, and five stolen bases in just 204 plate appearances. He should be in fantasy managers' lineups at all times down the stretch and will be an intriguing option for next season as long as he remains healthy.

Mon Sep 4 202321:35Royce Lewis Hits Grand Slam In Blowout Win Monday
Minnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis had a big game in a 20-6 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. Lewis went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, finishing with two runs and six RBI in the blowout victory. The rookie infielder has been on fire this season, with the grand slam on Monday marking his fourth in just 44 games played and third in his past eight contests. Overall, Lewis is batting .317 with 11 homers and 39 RBI in the 2023 season. He has worked his way into must-start territory in all fantasy formats moving forward.

Sun Aug 27 202319:38Royce Lewis Hits Second Career Grand Slam Sunday
On Sunday, Minnesota Twins designated hitter/infielder Royce Lewis came through with a grand slam, propelling the Twins to a narrow 7-6 victory over the Rangers in an uncommon 13-inning contest. The marathon game concluded when Rangers relief pitcher Jonathan Hernandez issued a bases-loaded walk to Michael A. Taylor. This led to the second grand slam of Lewis's career. In 138 trips to the plate this season, the 24-year-old has smacked seven home runs and logged 24 RBI.

Tue Aug 15 202316:02Royce Lewis Activated From Injured List
The Minnesota Twins activated infielder/outfielder Royce Lewis (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, infielder Willi Castro (oblique) was placed on the injured list with a mild left-oblique strain. Lewis will return to the Twins roster after missing more than six weeks with a Grade 2 left-oblique strain. Given the 24-year-old's ability to play pretty much all over the field, Lewis should find his way into Minnesota's starting lineup more often than not, making him worth a pickup in any fantasy leagues where he's available. Before his injury this year, Lewis had gone 31-for-95 (.326) with four home runs, two doubles, 15 RBI and 11 runs scored in just 26 games played.
