Fri Oct 2 201514:39Ayers out for Sunday's game in Buffalo
Ayers is out for Sunday's game in Buffalo.
With Ayers out for a second straight week, George Selvie will likely slide over to left defensive end again, allowing Kerry Wynn to join the starting lineup as the right defensive end. Even against a run-heavy Bills team, the Giants defense will sorely miss its most effective pass-rusher.
Fri Oct 2 201502:51Ayers had difficulty getting through practice Wednesday
Ayers, who missed last Thursday's game with a hamstring injury, had difficulty getting through practice Wednesday.
The Giants could really use Ayers Sunday as he's been their best pass rusher with Jason Pierre-Paul out. At this point, he's listed as questionable.

Ayers injured his ankle or Achilles' tendon before Saturday's game against the Jets and did not suit up, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Ayers declined to speak to reporters after the game, and the extent of the injury is unclear. Should the injury turn out to be significant, the Giants would be awfully thin on the defensive line.

Ayers (ankle) returned to the field for the Giants' recent minicamp after missing most of OTAs, nj.comreports.
Ayers, who had been slowed by an ankle issue, is thus expected to be fine for training camp in late July. At that time, he'll compete for the starting job at defensive end for the Giants heading into the 2015 season after having recorded 22 tackles and five sacks in 12 games last year.
Wed May 27 201513:43Ayers forced to leave Wednesday OTA's due to apparent leg injury
Ayers was forced to leave Wednesday OTA's due to an apparent leg injury, NJ.com reports.
The injury is presumably unrelated to the torn pectoral muscle that forced Ayers to miss the last four games of the 2014 season. The defensive end recorded 22 tackles and five sacks in 12 games last season and is a candidate to start at left defensive end for the Giants, assuming the injury he sustained Wednesday is not serious.
Tue Dec 2 201402:25Ayers out for year with torn pectoral muscle
Ayers is out for the year with a torn pectoral muscle.
More bad news for a reeling team. Damontre Moore should see more snaps as a result.

Ayers will not return to Sunday's game against the Jaguars due to a pectoral injury.
Ayers had already been filling in for the inactive Mathias Kiwanuka (knee), so his absence will further hurt the Giants' defensive line depth. Look for Damontre Moore or Kerry Wynn to see increased snaps in his absence.

Ayers (neck) is listed as active for Sunday night's game against Philadelphia, the New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano reports.
Ayers, who did not practice on Friday due to neck spasms, will give it a go Sunday and thus factor in the Giants' pass-rushing/DE rotation.

Ayers, who woke up with neck spasms, did not practice on Friday.
He's questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Ayers (ankle) will do individual drills before determining whether he is healthy enough to begin practicing with the Giants, ESPN.com reports.
Ayers joined the Giants this offseason after posting 29 tackles and 5.5 sacks for the Broncos last season. With the departure of long-serving Giant Justin Tuck, Ayers is expected to provide similar pass rushing prowess while providing experienced depth along New York's defensive line. Once he's cleared to practice, Ayers should immediately factor into the Giants' defensive end rotation.
Fri Apr 25 201411:51Ayers blames low sack totals on misuse
New Giants DE Robert Ayers blames his low sack total throughout his career on misuse.
Ayers notched just 12 sacks in five seasons with the Broncos after being the 18th overall pick in the 2009 draft. "I feel like I was out of position a lot of times but last year when Von [Miller] was suspended, they had to play me," Ayers said. "I was put in the situation and I was able to capitalize." He should get more opportunities to rush the passer in New York, but Ayers is primarily a run-stuffer.

Tue Apr 1 201418:09Robert Ayers visits Giants
Free agent DE Robert Ayers visited the Giants.
It's Ayers' first trip in over two weeks. He made a trip to Cincinnati shortly after the start of free agency. He'd be a situational pass rusher for a Giants team that's remaking its defensive line.

Mon Mar 17 201411:54Robert Ayers to visit with Bengals Tuesday
Free agent DE Robert Ayers will visit the Bengals Tuesday.
Even after losing Michael Johnson to the Bucs, the Bengals are solid at defensive end with Carlos Dunlap, Robert Geathers, Wallace Gilberry and Margus Hunt. Ayers, who is coming off a career-high 5.5 sacks, would be a rotational rusher.

Tue Mar 11 201419:50Cowboys interested in free agent DE Ayers
The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys are interested in free agent DE Robert Ayers.
Ayers notched a career-high 5.5 sacks in 2013, and was solid against the run. He wouldn't come close to making up for the loss of DeMarcus Ware, but would be a welcome addition to what is now an absurdly-thin defensive line.

Thu Mar 28 201312:59Broncos could give Ayers bigger role in 2013
The Denver Post reports "it's looking more likely" that DE Robert Ayers will open 2013 in a starting role.
With Dwight Freeney seeking $6 million per year and their interest in John Abraham waning, Denver is exploring low-cost alternatives to replace Elvis Dumervil. Rather than overpay for pricey vets, the Broncos "are starting to warm up" to the idea of starting Ayers on run downs and drafting a situational pass rusher.

Mon Nov 26 201214:20Robert Ayers takes leave of absence
Broncos DE Robert Ayers has taken a leave of absence after the Saturday night passing of his father, Robert Sr.
Robert Sr.'s passing was unexpected, and Robert Jr. led the Broncos out of the tunnel ahead of Sunday's win over the Chiefs, going on to play with a heavy heart. Although Ayers is no longer a starter along Denver's defensive front, he is a key role player and "wave" lineman. He has a sack and 12 tackles on the year.

Tue Aug 7 201202:12DE Ayers loses starting job to Jason Hunter
Robert Ayers has lost his starting left defensive end job to Jason Hunter.
Although the 2009 first-rounder has been a stout run defender, he's provided no semblance of a pass rush through three seasons. Hunter has earned more snaps with a physical camp, but he's going to be pushed by fast-rising second-round DT Derek Wolfe, who is seeing plenty of action at defensive end.

Mon May 14 201217:36Wayne Nunnely retires from football
Broncos DL coach Wayne Nunnely announced his retirement from football.
Nunnely was set to enter his fourth season as Broncos defensive line coach after 12 years in the same role with the division rival Chargers. Denver's front four experienced a major leap in 2011 under Nunnely's tutelage, so he will be missed. They're turning to assistant Jay Rodgers to replace him.
