Tue Apr 214:34Jesus Luzardo Searching For First Win Of The Season
Left-hander Jesus Luzardo will take the mound at home for the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in his second start of the season. Luzardo went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while walking two and striking out eight in his first start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will now face an Angels lineup that is slashing .195/.264/.383. Luzardo has faced the Angels six times, but just once as a starter, and is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Mike Trout has taken the lefty deep three times in just five at-bats, so Luzardo is looking to find better success on Tuesday to pick up his first win of the season.

Tue Feb 2712:51Jesus Luzardo To Start On Opening Day
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker announced on Tuesday that left-hander Jesus Luzardo will start on Opening Day on March 28 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Luzardo will be the staff ace in Miami in 2024 with Sandy Alcantara (elbow) out for the entire season. In his second full season with the Fish last year, Luzardo went 10-10 with a 3.58 ERA (3.55 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 55 walks and a career-high 208 strikeouts in 178 2/3 innings over 32 starts. The 25-year-old Peruvian southpaw could be affected by a career-high workload last year, but it shouldn't be enough of a concern to dissuade fantasy managers from rolling with Luzardo as their No. 2 starter with upside this year.

Fri Jan 1214:33Jesus Luzardo, Marlins Avoid Arbitration
The Miami Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo have avoided arbitration with a one-year, $5.5 million pact for the 2024 season. The 26-year-old has found another gear since being acquired in a trade with the Oakland A's midway through the 2021 season. The southpaw worked to a 3.32 ERA across 18 starts for the Fish in the 2022 season before posting a 3.58 ERA across a career-high 32 starts and 178 2/3 innings a season ago. A former top prospect in Oakland, he has certainly put his 6.61 ERA from the 2021 campaign in the rearview. With Sandy Alcantara out for the season due to Tommy John surgery, Luzardo has a good shot at taking the mound on Opening Day as the club's ace in 2024 and is certainly an attractive fantasy asset moving forward.

Tue Jan 913:16Yankees Interested In Jesus Luzardo
The New York Yankees have interest in trading for Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo, according to a team source. Luzardo is under team control for three more years, so he's going to cost a lot, and the Marlins would likely ask for Yankees' No. 1 prospect, Spencer Jones, in any deal for Luzardo. Miami could also be interested in Oswald Peraza, as they need a shortstop. The Fish could also want to keep Luzardo around, as former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara (elbow) will miss all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Youngster Eury Perez will likely be on an innings limit. The Marlins need Luzardo in their starting rotation, so they might have to be blown away by a trade offer to even consider shipping him away this offseason. In 2023, Luzardo went 10-10 with a 3.58 ERA (3.55 FIP), 1.21 WHIP and a career-high 208 strikeouts in 32 starts (178 2/3 innings).

Sat Dec 16 202319:50Edward Cabrera, Jesus Luzardo Drawing More Trade Interest
Miami Marlins starting pitchers Jesus Luzardo and Edward Cabrera continue to draw trade interest. Luzardo has three years of team control left while Cabrera has five. Rosenthal goes on to say new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix may be more open to moving a starter than previous general manager Kim Ng. Both pitchers are young, talented arms who could help the Marlins get back some needed hitting. Luzardo struck out 208 over 178 2/3 innings. He started Game 1 of the wild card series. Cabrera didn't have the same success as Luzardo, but he has the talent to be of interest to almost any team. For fantasy managers, the two will be names to look out for. Luzardo will cost a good draft pick but Cabrera will cost less and also has the potential to be a value pick, wherever the two end up pitching.

Mon Oct 2 202301:04Jesus Luzardo Set To Start Game 1
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo is set to start Game 1 of the wild-card series against the Philadelphia Phillies. With ace Sandy Alcantara shut down for the season, this is the most logical choice for the fish. He finished the regular season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 208:55 K:BB ratio in 178 IP. While he's had a few clunkers recently, he has also been spectacular in a few starts. It could go either way on Tuesday, but the Marlins don't have a better option.

Wed Aug 30 202321:40Jesus Luzardo Looks Fantastic On Wednesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was impressive on the mound during Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-hander threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and walked two batters. Sadly, Luzardo was handed a no-decision after his offense didn't give him any run support. He'll take his 3.62 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 175/44 K/BB across 27 starts into his next outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fantasy managers should expect Luzardo to somewhat regress after this impressive performance.

Tue Jun 6 202314:22Jesus Luzardo Looking To Bounce Back Tuesday
Miami Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo is in search of a bounce-back effort as he toes the rubber against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night in Miami. It has certainly been an uneven season for the left-hander, especially of late. Luzardo has twice allowed at least five earned runs in two of his last three starts -- including his last time out -- but has also surrendered just one earned run in three of his last five. He continues to rack up plenty of strikeouts with a 27.6% K% on the campaign but has also failed to eclipse 5 1/3 innings pitched in each of his last three starts. The 25-year-old owns a solid 4.05 ERA on the season but his 3.68 SIERA and 20.5% K-BB% are wildly encouraging. He has a nice opportunity on deck against a Royals club that ranks 19th with a .319 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season.

Tue May 16 202322:05Jesus Luzardo Punches Out Seven In No-Decision
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo took a no-decision on Tuesday after allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk across six innings in a 5-4 win over the Washington Nationals. Luzardo certainly pitched well enough to earn the victory in this one but it took some late-game heroics from Jorge Soler, who walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning, for the Marlins to pull off the win. The only blemish on an otherwise rock-solid outing from the 25-year-old southpaw was a Lane Thomas solo shot in the top of the sixth inning. Luzardo will carry a 3-2 record, 3.16 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 55:17 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings (nine starts) into his next turn against the Giants on the road this Sunday. He'll aim to pick up his third straight quality start in that one.

Fri Mar 31 202314:27Jesus Luzardo Facing The Mets In Friday's Game
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo will take the mound for the club's second game of the season on Friday. The task won't be easy, as he faces the dangerous New York Mets lineup. During Luzardo's first full season in Miami last year, the lefty broke out across 100.1 innings. He posted a 3.32 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 30.0% strikeout rate to go along with a 4-7 record. Luzardo will look to build on those numbers in 2023 while increasing his volume. He certainly has the talent to do it, and fantasy owners should be excited to roster and start the 25-year-old in any format.

Fri Feb 3 202313:16Jesus Luzardo Wins Arbitration Case Over Marlins
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo won his salary arbitration hearing on Friday against the Marlins, according to a source. He will make $2.45 million in 2023 after the Marlins filed for $2.1 million. Luzardo is one of the bright spots for the Marlins rotation after he had a 3.32 ERA (3.12 FIP), 1.04 WHIP and impressing 30 percent strikeout rate in 100 1/3 innings over 18 starts in his first full season in Miami in 2022. Sandy Alcantara is the clear No. 1 in this rotation, but Luzardo is the clear No. 2 and could be in for a breakout season in 2023 if he can stay healthy all year long. RotoBaller currently has Luzardo ranked as the No. 49 fantasy starter, but he could outperform that ranking easily.

Tue Oct 4 202213:21Jesus Luzardo Ends Season On A High Note
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo went out on top in his final 2022 start of the season, shutting the division-leading Atlanta Braves down for six scoreless innings while allowing four hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts in the team's 4-0 victory on Monday. Luzardo picked up his fourth win of the season in the process, and he'll finish the year 4-7 with a 3.32 ERA (3.12 FIP), a 1.04 WHIP, a career-high 120 strikeouts and 35 walks in 100 1/3 innings pitched over his 18 starts in his first full season with the Fish. It was one of the 25-year-old southpaw's best starts of the year, and he tied his career high for strikeouts in a single game. If Luzardo can stay healthy in 2023, he can certainly be an ace for fantasy managers.

Wed Sep 28 202223:48Jesus Luzardo Solid In No-Decision
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was very good for five innings against the New York Mets, but his outing came to a sour conclusion when he gave up a two-run home run to Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar. Luzardo completed the sixth inning, giving up just the two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. He was in position for a win at the time but was forced to settle for a no-decision when the bullpen gave up the lead and eventually the game. Luzardo has shown plenty of promise this season with a 3.53 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 108 strikeouts in 94 1/3 innings.

Sat Aug 20 202212:13Jesus Luzardo Allows One Run To Dodgers
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo performed admirably against the formidable Dodgers lineup Friday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out seven batters, but was left with a no-decision in the 2-1 loss as the Miami offense couldn't get much going against Los Angeles starting pitcher Tyler Anderson. Luzardo has put together a strong August, with a 2.70 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with 24 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. If he finishes the season strong, he could climb up draft boards heading into 2023.

Mon Aug 1 202216:10Jesus Luzardo Starting On Monday Against Reds
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) has been activated from the 60-day injured list and is starting on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. In a corresponding move, Jake Fishman has been designated for assignment. While Luzardo might be a little extra risky in his first major league start since May 10, but the 24-year-old southpaw needs to be rostered in most fantasy leagues. Before his early season injury, he was 2-3 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP while striking out 41 and walking 16 in 29 innings over six starts. Luzardo was able to throw 75 pitches in his final minor league rehab start, so he'll probably be somewhat limited on Monday against Cincy.

Thu Jul 7 202219:36Jesus Luzardo, Sixto Sanchez Slated For Bullpens
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) is scheduled to throw around 35 pitches in a two-inning bullpen session on Friday. Meanwhile, right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) will throw around 30 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday. Luzardo has been out almost two months with a left forearm strain and will likely need at least a few minor league rehab starts before he's an option to return to the team's starting rotation. In six starts before his injury, the southpaw had a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 41:16 K:BB ratio in 29 innings. Sanchez, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2022, isn't expected to pitch this year, so he can remain on the waiver wire in single-season formats.
