Wed Apr 12 202315:00Kody Clemens Gets Rare Start Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies infielder Kody Clemens will hit ninth and play first base in a rare start Wednesday versus the Marlins and right-hander Edward Cabrera. It's just the third start and appearance on the season for Klemens as the Phillies look to get as many left-handed bats into the starting lineup as possible against Cabrera. An off-season trade acquisition from the Tigers, Clemens is hitless in eight trips to the plate this season but does have a walk to his credit in that time. He has scuffled to a .137 average with five homers, one stolen base, and a .368 OPS across 59 big-league games between the Tigers and Phillies.

Fri Apr 7 202316:17Alec Bohm, Kody Clemens To Share 1B Playing Time
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that infielder Kody Clemens will be the team's first baseman against right-handed pitchers with Darick Hall (thumb) unlikely to return until later this season due to a torn ligament in his thumb that requires surgery. Third baseman Alec Bohm could slide over to first base against left-handed pitchers, but Thomson said Bohm is "our third baseman." Edmundo Sosa and Josh Harrison could man the hot corner on days that Bohm shifts to first base. Clemens got the start at first on Friday against right-hander Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds and hit eighth in the batting order. The 26-year-old hit just .145 with five homers and 17 RBI in 56 games in his first MLB season last year with the Detroit Tigers. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much, but the uptick in playing time makes him worth a flier in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues.

Sat Jan 7 202313:25Phillies Acquire Gregory Soto, Kody Clemens From Tigers
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired closer Gregory Soto and infielder Kody Clemens from the Detroit Tigers on Saturday in exchange for infielder Nick Maton, outfielder Matt Vierling and catcher Donny Sands. The 27-year-old Soto had a career-high 30 saves for the Tigers in 2022, but his fantasy stock is likely to fall with the move to Philadelphia and their closer-by-committee situation that also includes Craig Kimbrel, Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado. If the left-handed Soto can't limit his walks (12.9% BB rate last year), he could regress in 2023. Clemens, the son of Roger Clemens, made his major-league debut in 2022 and hit .145 with five homers, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored in 56 games. He'll give the Phillies flexibility on the infield as a bench bat.

Sat Mar 26 202215:04Kody Clemens Optioned To Triple-A
The Detroit Tigers optioned infielder Kody Clemens to Triple-A on Saturday. Clemens has yet to make his Major League debut but hit .247 with a .312 on-base percentage in 414 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo last season. Primarily a second baseman, the 25-year-old also made starts at first base and in right field last season. He figures to provide the Tigers with some additional infield depth in 2022. In 13 plate appearances in Grapefruit League play this spring, Clemens hit .250 with a .308 on-base percentage and a home run.

Sat Nov 20 202112:36Kody Clemens Protected By Tigers
The Detroit Tigers added infielder Kody Clemens, the son of seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens, to their 40-man roster. The Tigers also added right-hander Angel De Jesus to their roster on Friday while outrighting right-hander Nivaldo Rodriguez and outfielder Jacob Robson to Triple-A Toledo after they cleared waivers. Klemens, 25, hit .247 with 18 home runs and 59 RBI in 97 games for Toledo last year, his first year at Triple-A. The former third-round pick of Detroit is mostly useful for his position versatility on the infield and outfield, and if he continues to hit at Triple-A, he could eventually become a utility player at the big league level for the Tigers.
