Sun Feb 9 201417:46Johnny Damon still open to comeback attempt
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Johnny Damon is still open to playing, or even managing, but will only do so at the major league level.
The 40-year-old outfielder has kept himself in shape despite not playing during the 2013 season, and has yet to officially retire. At this point, it's unlikely that any team is going to jump in and offer him a chance to play in 2014.

Sun Jan 12 201410:57Johnny Damon not officially retired yet
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Johnny Damon "has remained in shape" and "would love to resume his career after missing last season."
Damon's agent, Scott Boras, told his client to let him know when he was officially retired, and he's yet to receive such a phone call. The 40-year-old batted only .222/.281/.329 across 64 games for the Indians in 2012 and would surely have to settle for a minor league deal if he does decide to continue his career.

Tue Feb 26 201316:06Cashman rules out deal with Johnny Damon
Yankees GM Brian Cashman ruled out a Johnny Damon deal Tuesday in a chat with reporters.
"We need somebody who can play the outfield every day," Cashman said. Damon is a lousy defensive outfielder and hit just .222/.281/.329 in 224 plate appearances last season with the Indians. The Yankees are expected to look internally to replace the injured Curtis Granderson.

Mon Feb 25 201316:42Damon very interested in returning to Yankees
Johnny Damon said on Michael Kay's radio show Monday that he is interested in returning to the Yankees.
We doubt the feeling is mutual, which Damon acknowledged during the interview. The topic was raised because Damon is a free agent and the Yankees figure to be on the lookout for outfield help now that Curtis Granderson is out 10 weeks with a fractured forearm. However, we're betting against a reunion.

Sat Dec 8 201209:43Damon to retire if no deal by spring training
Johnny Damon told the Boston Globe that he would retire if a team does not sign him before spring training.
Damon wasn't signed until two weeks into the regular season last year, and it remains doubtful any team will offer him a minor league contract. The 39-year-old played just 64 games for the Indians last season and failed to draw interest on waivers after being designated for assignment in August.

Thu Dec 6 201222:59Damon hoping to play in 2013
Johnny Damon is hoping to catch on with a team for the 2013 season.
Damon played just 64 games for the Indians last season before being designated for assignment in August after batting only .222/.281/.329. Now 39, he'll have to settle for a non-guaranteed deal with someone if he wants to continue his career. "I liked being home last season with my kids. But I'm in shape and if I could play, I would," he said. "We'll see what happens. I still think I have something left if I am used the right way."

Sat Oct 20 201216:27Johnny Damon to play for Thailand in WBC
Johnny Damon is expected to play for Thailand in the WBC qualifier in Taiwan in November.
Damon's mother is from Thailand, which gives him the eligibility to do so. The 38-year-old outfielder hit just .222/.281/.329 with four homers and 19 RBI in 64 games for the Indians this past season. He's just 231 hits away from 3,000, but that historic mark will be difficult to reach if he can't find a suitor this winter.

It's no sure thing that he'll be picked up by anyone for the final two months of the season.

Fri Jun 29 201200:35Damon's three-run blast helps power Indians
Johnny Damon launched a three-run home run, helping to lead the Indians to a 7-2 victory over the Orioles on Thursday.
The mammoth blast off Wei-Yin Chen in the second inning put the Tribe on the board, and provided more than enough support for Zach McAllister and the Indians bullpen. After getting off to a maddeningly slow start, Damon has picked it up a bit as of late, hitting .345 (10-for-29) with two homers and seven RBI over his last nine games. It was his only hit in three trips on the night, and he now sits 247 shy of the hallowed 3000.

Sun May 20 201223:44Indians to stick with Damon despite struggles
The Indians will stick with Johnny Damon amidst his struggles.
Damon has a clause in his contract which would guarantee he be released if he isn't getting enough playing time for his liking. Manager Manny Acta was asked how much leeway Damon had over the weekend. "We don't have a timetable or anything," Acta said. "Damon is here to play for us up until he doesn't want to be here. We signed Damon to be part of the Cleveland Indians. Johnny was signed to be part of this ballclub until the end." The 38-year-old veteran is batting just .172 thus far.

Johnny Damon went 1-for-5 in the Indians' 8-3 win over the Red Sox on Thursday.
Damon is hitting .171/.194/.257 through 35 at-bats. It's too early to know the extent to which he will contribute this season. While he is a better player than he has demonstrated thus far, it would be wise to temper expectations of the 38-year-old.

Johnny Damon is serving as the Indians' designated hitter on Thursday night against the White Sox.
Damon made an early exit from his debut Wednesday due to what was described as "general cramping," apparently brought on by the cooler weather in Chicago. He finished that game 0-for-3 with a walk.
