However, it didn’t feel quite real until Wednesday.“It was cool,” said Shelton, with a smile. “I’ve been waiting a long time to be out here. It was a little bit emotional.”Shelton spent the previous 15 seasons as a coach with the Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins. He was Rocco Baldelli’s bench coach last year when Minnesota won the AL Central. Shelton replaces Clint Hurdle, who was fired on the final day of last season after a nine-year tenure. The Pirates had a 69-93 record and finished last in the NL Central for the first time since 2010.The first day was even more special for Shelton with father Ron watching the workout from along one of the foul lines. Wed Sep 2 201512:56Kelly transferred to 60-day disabled list Wednesday
Kelly was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Fox Sports Florida reports.
Kelly won't play anymore this season anyway, so the move was procedural to open up a 40-man roster spot for the selection of Raudel Lazo's contract Wednesday. Given the severity of Kelly's tear, there's even question surrounding whether he will return for 2016 or not.
Sat Jul 18 201516:36Kelly underwent Tommy John surgery on right elbow Tuesday
Kelly underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, bringing his season to a close, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Kelly was scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday in order to examine a "significant" tear in his right elbow. The worst outcome has come to pass, which will wipe away the current campaign and place a question mark on Kelly's availability in 2016.
Sat Jul 11 201514:30Kelly will see Dr
Kelly will see Dr. James Andrews on Monday to look at a "significant tear" in his right elbow, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
It sounds like this injury, coupled with Kelly's fractured ring finger, will end his season before it even really began. It's possible the 35-year-old's playing career might be drawing to a close.
Mon Apr 13 201514:35Kelly (finger) placed on 15-day disabled list Monday
Kelly (finger) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, Juan C. Rodriguez of the Miami Sun Sentinel reports.
Kelly was primarily a reserve player for the Marlins, but a fractured ring finger will land him on the disabled list for the foreseeable future. Reid Brignac was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move, and should take over the role of backup infielder in Kelly's stead.

Kelly fractured the fourth finger on his right hand in Saturday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Kelly was the first of two Marlins to suffer a fractured finger Sunday. He's mainly a bench player for the Marlins, but the injury will likely send him to the disabled list and cause the Marlins to make recall another player for that role.
Sun Apr 5 201513:47Kelly's contract selected by Marlins on Sunday
Kelly's contract was selected by the Marlins on Sunday, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
Kelly was already considered a lock for an Opening Day roster spot, so this announcement merely makes it official. Regular playing time may be tough to come by for Kelly, but he'll provide the Marlins with an extra left-handed bat off the bench.

Kelly remains in the mix to grab a bench spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster, MLB.com reports.
The veteran utility man has slashed .250/.379/.292 over his first 24 spring at-bats and is an intriguing option as a left-handed bat off the bench who could see time in the outfield, at first base or even as the team's emergency catcher.

Kelly agreed to a minor league deal with the Marlins Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Wed Nov 5 201416:29Kelly declined outright to Triple-A Toledo
Kelly declined his outright to Triple-A Toledo, and will become a free agent, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Kelly said he's not ruling out a return to Detroit, so it's possible that he'll sign with the team he's played for over the past six seasons. At 35 by the time the 2015 season starts, and with a career .232 average, he may have to earn his major league roster spot in spring training regardless of where he signs.

Kelly went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in the nightcap of Saturday's double-header against the White Sox.
Kelly started the game at third base and switched over to the over side of the diamond after first baseman Miguel Cabrera exited with an ankle injury. The Tigers are turning to Kelly again at first base for Sunday's tilt, as Cabrera is still ailing. Kelly's production (.262/.346/.305 in 141 at-bats) leaves a lot to be desired, but he may be in line for an uptick in playing time until Cabrera gets healthy.
