Fri Apr 1914:47A's Activate Brent Rooker From Injured List
The Oakland A's have activated Brent Rooker (abdomen) from the injured list and have optioned 22-year-old infielder Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas. Despite breaking out with 30 home runs in the 2023 season, Rooker was not being used as an everyday outfielder to begin the season. He has hit just .200 on his young season but has still clubbed a pair of home runs across his first eight games of the campaign. Rooker will likely see consistent playing time upon his return but the A's outfield has gotten more crowded with his return and the promotion of the hot-hitting Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A. The team also has Seth Brown, JJ Bleday, and Lawrence Butler roaming the outfield.

Mon Apr 1517:19Brent Rooker Could Return When Eligible
Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker (abdomen), whose injured-list placement is retroactive to April 8, has started total-body workouts and will begin taking some dry swings in the next few days. Manager Mark Kotsay is hoping that Rooker can return to the team when he's eligible to come off the IL on April 17. The 29-year-old left last Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers with an injury to his costochondral cartilage and he was put on the IL last Thursday. It sounds like it could be a short stay for the outfielder, though. After making his first All-Star team in 2023, Rooker started off the 2024 season by going just 6-for-30 (.200) with two home runs, five RBI and 16 strikeouts in his first eight games before getting hurt.

Thu Apr 1112:02A's Put Brent Rooker On 10-Day Injured List
The Oakland Athletics announced on Thursday that they placed outfielder Brent Rooker (abdominal) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 8) and selected infielder/outfielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. The team also moved right-hander Luis Medina (knee) to the 60-day injured list. Rooker is dealing with a costochondral cartilage injury in his abdomen after leaving Sunday's game early. It's unclear if the 29-year-old will be ready to return to the A's when he's eligible. After his first All-Star selection in 2023, Rooker is off to a slow start this year with a .200 average (6-for-30), but he does have two homers and five RBI in eight games. Until Rooker is able to return, Tyler Nevin figures to benefit from more playing time in Oakland, either in the outfield or at first base.

Wed Apr 1018:39Brent Rooker Absent Again
Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker (abdomen) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers. This marks the second game in a row that Rooker has missed after exiting early during Sunday's game. It appears the organization believes this is a day-to-day issue. That being said, Rooker should avoid a trip to the injured list and return at some point this week. In the meantime, Abraham Toro will leadoff and serve as the designated hitter versus left-handed Cody Bradford on Wednesday.

Sun Apr 716:06Brent Rooker Leaves Sunday’s Game With Abdominal Soreness
Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker left Sunday's game with abdominal soreness, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Rooker struck out twice off Jack Flaherty before exiting the game. Rooker was replaced by Lawrence Butler, who hit a single in the top of the fifth inning. The Athletics are off on Monday as they travel to Texas to kick off a three-game set on Tuesday. The day off should bode well for Rooker, as he could be back in the lineup on Tuesday. If not, Lawrence Butler, Seth Brown, or Tyler Nevin are favorites to be slotted into the lineup instead.

Sat Apr 616:30Brent Rooker Stays Hot At The Plate
Oakland Athletics outfielder/designated hitter Brent Rooker went 2-4 en route to a 4-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Rooker launched his second home run in as many games in the top of the first to score Zack Gelof. The 29-year-old then knocked an RBI single in the eighth inning to bring in Gelof once again to increase their lead. Rooker has been swinging an awfully hot bat against the Tigers, tallying 11 total bases in the opening two games of this weekend's series. The left fielder launched 30 round-trippers last season and should be considered an above-average power option in a weak Oakland lineup.

Mon Apr 118:23Brent Rooker Back In The Lineup Monday
Oakland A's outfielder Brent Rooker is back in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Tanner Houck. The 29-year-old didn't appear in Sunday's series finale with the Guardians but will hit fifth and handle designated hitter duties on Monday. Interestingly, Rooker hasn't seen full-time duty this season on the heels of a breakout campaign that saw him club 26 home runs alongside an .817 OPS across 137 appearances in 2023. At the same time, he is also 0-for-8 with one walk against an ugly seven strikeouts through his first nine trips to the plate this season. Fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on his usage as it appears he may not be an everyday player despite his big 2023 campaign.

Sat Mar 920:40Brent Rooker's Spring Slump Continues
Oakland A's outfielderBrent Rookerwent 0-3 with two strikeouts in Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants, continuing his spring slump. He is now hitting just .154 in spring training for a .454 OPS. While Rooker is slumping, he still projects to be an above-average hitter in 2024. ATC projects him for 24 HR and 66 RBI with a .228/.312/.438 slash line. This would be a slight drop from his 2023 numbers, where he slashed 246/.349/.488 with 30 home runs, 69 RBI, 61 runs, and four stolen bases over 526 plate appearances. Rooker currently has an ADP of 346 and is likely only a viable option in deeper leagues or for fantasy managers searching for a cheap power source later in the draft.

Oakland Athletics outfielder/designated hitter Brent Rooker went 3-for-3 with his 30th home run, an RBI, a run scored and a walk in the season finale on Sunday, a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He made his first All-Star team and bested his previous career-high in homers (nine) by a wide margin. The 28-year-old had a rough stretch in the middle of the season after a white-hot start, but he picked things up a bit after the All-Star break and into the end of the season.

Tue Sep 19 202321:05Brent Rooker Not In Tuesday's Lineup
Oakland Athletics outfielder/designated hitter Brent Rooker is absent from the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Luis Castillo and the Seattle Mariners. The 28-year-old has had a career season, slashing .241/.325/.472 with 26 long balls, 55 runs, 60 RBI, and three stolen bases across 126 contests. Tyler Soderstrom will take his spot at DH and bat seventh. The former first-rounder hasn't put it together yet over his 36 career games, as he's hitting .171 with three homers. Soderstrom is solid in dynasty formats for his power potential, but fantasy managers can leave him on the waiver wire in redraft leagues.

Oakland A's outfielder Brent Rooker is back in the starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Blue Jays and left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season in 2023, hitting .242 with 23 home runs, two stolen bases, and a .792 OPS across 117 appearances, production that grades out 20% above the league average, as per his 120 wRC+. Fri Aug 25 202312:41Brent Rooker Goes Deep In Win Over White Sox
Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker added to his strong season on Thursday by homering in the team's 8-5 win over the Chicago White Sox. Rooker finished the game 1-for-4 with a solo home run, his 22nd of the season. Before 2023, Rooker's career-high for home runs was nine, set back in 2021 with the Minnesota Twins. The 28-year-old right-handed batter now has three home runs in his last five games, although he's batting .232 (16-for-69) with five home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and 11 runs scored in 20 games (18 starts) so far in the month of August. Despite playing for the last-place A's, Rooker has been useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his power and run production (55 RBI) in 359 at-bats.

Unfortunately, this would be Oakland's sole run in the entire game. Rooker went 1-for-4 at the plate, striking out twice. He is slashing .245/.329/.469 for the season while delivering 20 home runs and driving in 51 runs.

Rooker will return to the lineup for the first time since last Thursday. The 28-year-old has struggled lately with only two hits in his last 16 at-bats since the All-Star break. Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker (illness) has returned to Monday's lineup and is starting in left field and batting cleanup against the Boston Red Sox. Rooker sat out of Sunday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins with an illness, but he's obviously feeling better on Monday and will be back for fantasy managers to begin the week. Rooker will probably continue to have limited chances at driving in runs on the A's, though.

Sun Jul 16 202314:25Brent Rooker Dealing With Illness
Oakland Athletics outfielder/designated hitter Brent Rooker (illness) was a late scratch from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, the slugger is dealing with an undisclosed illness, but there's no word on the severity. Rooker has been the best bat in the club's lineup this season, slashing .244/.340/.477 with 16 homers over 80 games. Tony Kemp will take his place, playing left field and batting leadoff against Twins right-hander Joe Ryan. Despite his spot in the lineup, fantasy managers can mostly stay away from the 31-year-old, who is batting just .203 with three bombs and nine stolen bases across 74 contests.

This season, Rooker is slashing .246/.342/.481 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 71 games. On Saturday, Seth Brown will function as the designated hitter and bat cleanup versus right-hander Pablo Lopez. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Rooker out on Saturday.

Wed Jun 21 202316:07Brent Rooker Sitting Against Guardians
Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker will take a seat on the bench on Wednesday as the team faces the Cleveland Guardians. Rooker has been a nice story for the last-place A's this year, but he's fallen on hard times of late and has gone 11-for-51 (.216) with two home runs, six RBI, three doubles and 21 strikeouts in 15 games in the month of June to drop his season slash line to .250/.350/.482 with an .832 OPS, 13 home runs, 12 doubles, 38 RBI and 29 runs scored in 257 plate appearances. Fantasy managers may want to keep Rooker on the bench for a while until he picks things up.
