Wed Mar 1308:18William Contreras Continues To Trend Up
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras continued his strong Cactus League in Tuesday's loss against the Chicago Cubs. The backstop went 3-for-4 on the day with four RBI and a three-run homer. Hr is now hitting .310 with two homers and seven RBI in 29 at-bats. The All-Star catcher finally got the majority of playing in 2023 after being dealt from the Atlanta Braves and hit .289 with 17 homers and 78 RBI. The 26-year-old will run it back as the main man behind the dish in Milwaukee and a key part of their lineup in the upcoming season. Contreras will look to build off last seasons success and has Top-5 value at a position where it is hard to find much to begin with.

Sat Mar 222:09William Contreras Off To Solid Start This Spring
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is slashing .286/.286/.571 with a home run and three RBI over five games during spring training. Contreras became one of the top catchers in fantasy baseball after slashing .289/.367/.457 with 17 home runs, 78 RBI, 86 runs, and six stolen bases over 611 plate appearances in 141 games last season. Milwaukee values Contreras' bat in the lineup as the 26-year-old logged 29 starts as the team's designated hitter. His 48.7% hard-hit percentage was a career-high, and Contreras saw his K% decrease seven points from 27.7% in 2022 to 20.6% in 2023. He has an NFBC ADP of 75 and is the third catcher off the board after Adley Rutschman and J.T. Realmuto. Contreras should be in the lineup daily as he looks to build on last season's success in 2024. The former Atlanta Brave is easily a top-five fantasy catcher and a solid pick in upcoming drafts at his current ADP.

Sat Aug 19 202311:16William Contreras Keys Friday’s Victory
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored in Friday's back-and-forth 9-8 victory over the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old first doubled off Andrew Heaney to bring in a third-inning run. Contreras then supplied a two-run single during the eighth frame. The hard-hitting backstop has been a top-five roto-league fantasy catcher in his first season with a full-time role following his 2022 breakout. Contreras is slashing .275/.346/.443 with 12 homers, 57 RBI, 55 runs scored, and one stolen base in 393 at-bats this year.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras played his part at the plate in Monday's 12-1 rout of the Rockies. The 25-year-old went 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, three RBI, and a strikeout. Contreras has had a quietly successful first season with his new team, slashing .281/.351/.452 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 396 plate appearances. Those numbers may not stand out to fantasy managers, but he should continue to offer consistent production for the rest of the season in a weak position.

Thu Jul 6 202312:13William Contreras Resting Against Cubs Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is getting the day off on Thursday as the team takes on the visiting Chicago Cubs. Victor Caratini will do the catching and bat seventh in the lineup against Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman. After making the All-Star for the first time in his third MLB season in 2022, Contreras has hit .255 (63-for-247) with nine home runs, 13 doubles, a triple, 32 RBI and 37 runs scored in 281 plate appearances covering 68 games in his first year in Milwaukee as the primary catcher. He's off to a great start so far in July, going 7-for-17 (.412) with a homer, double, six RBI and four runs scored in only four games played. Caratini will offer very little DFS upside with just 35 career home runs in seven big-league seasons.

Thu Jun 29 202318:11William Contreras Gets A Day Off On Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is not in Thursday's lineup against the New York Mets. Switch-hitting backstop Victor Caratini stations behind the dish to catch Adrian Houser in this one. Contreras is 2-for-4 in his career while opposing Max Scherzer, but likely won't get a chance to build on that in Thursday's meeting. Following a 2022 All-Star nod with the Atlanta Braves, Contreras has failed to expand on that breakout season by slashing a lukewarm .244/.333/.413 with eight home runs and 25 RBI over 255 trips to the plate in 2023. The 26-year-old continues to regularly occupy a premium spot in the Brewers lineup, anyway, so fantasy managers shouldn't be too hasty in giving up on him at a shallow position.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is not in the lineup on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Veteran catcher Victor Caratini will take his place behind the mound while batting eighth.

Mon May 29 202303:07William Contreras Wallops Fifth Home Run
Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras went 2-for-4 with a two-run jack and an additional RBI and run scored as the team topped the San Francisco Giants 7-5 on Sunday. The 25-year-old has seen his fantasy-rostered percentage slightly dip recently while struggling and playing only a part-time role. Contreras is slashing an adequate .250/.341/.410, but only with five goners and 16 RBI. The 2022 All-Star has bounced around the Milwaukee batting order, but he finds himself in a favorable spot whenever he's behind the dish. Contreras is worthy of mixed-league consideration as a potential top-10 catcher option as long as he's hitting in the top half of the Milwaukee lineup.

Tue Apr 11 202321:26William Contreras Absent From Tuesday's Lineup
Milwaukee Brewers backstop William Contreras is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com. The catcher hasn't found his swing yet this season, as he owns just a .720 OPS with no home runs but is batting .310. Victor Caratini will take his place behind the plate and bat sixth to face right-hander Merrill Kelly. The 29-year-old hasn't been a productive hitter since 2019 and owns a career .232/.316/.351 slash line. This season, Caratini is batting .200 with no homers over three contests. He doesn't offer much fantasy value, and there are better options on the waiver wire.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is getting the day off on Sunday in the series finale against the Chicago Cubs. In his place, Victor Caratini will do the catching and will hit seventh against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Caratini, 29, has very limited DFS upside in his first start for the Brewers this year. Last year in 95 games for the Brew Crew, he slashed just .199/.300/.342 with a .642 OPS, nine home runs, 34 RBI and 26 runs scored in 314 plate appearances.

Mon Dec 12 202219:17William Contreras Traded To The Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired catcher William Contreras on Monday as part of a three-way trade that also involved the Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics, according to sources. The Brewers also acquired Joel Payamps and Justin Yeager in the three-way swap that sent Sean Murphy to the Braves and Manny Pina and Esteury Ruiz to the A's. Contreras became expendable for the Braves after they upgraded with Murphy, so he'll move to Milwaukee after making the All-Star for the first time in his career by slashing .278/.354/.506 with an .860 OPS, 20 home runs, 45 RBI, 51 runs scored and two steals in 376 plate appearances and 97 games. The 24-year-old figures to play every day for the Brew Crew at catcher and/or designated hitter.

Sun Oct 2 202216:27William Contreras Not Starting On Sunday
Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the New York Mets. Contreras does see a lot of time at designated hitter whenever he's not catching. However, the Braves have decided to give the 24-year-old the day off to rest. Marcell Ozuna will serve as the DH and bat seventh against right-hander Chris Bassitt on Sunday. Fantasy managers should expect Contreras to be back in the lineup for their next contest.

Sun Aug 21 202211:49William Contreras Not Starting Against Astros
Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras remains out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the Houston Astros. Contreras has started on the bench in three of the last four games for the Braves. The first-time All-Star hasn't been bad of late, though, hitting .270 (17-for-63) with three home runs, six RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games so far in the month of August. Overall, he's slashing .262/.338/.515 with an .853 OPS, 16 home runs, 32 RBI, 34 runs and two stolen bases in 233 at-bats. Travis d'Arnaud is doing the catching and hitting fifth on Sunday against Astros right-hander Jose Urquidy. d'Arnaud hasn't played much this month, but he's gone 9-for-24 (.375) with a homer and four RBI in eight games played.

Contreras has appeared in 66 games this season, slashing .266/.341/.524 with 16 homers, 32 RBI, 26 walks, and 67 strikeouts. On a normal basis, he's worth rostering in deeper fantasy leagues or daily fantasy formats, but he should be avoided tonight as he takes a day off.

Sun Jul 10 202222:03William Contreras Picks Up A Pair Of Hits In Sunday's Victory
Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras is still red-hot, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a couple of singles during the 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. It brought his batting average up to .273, and he also has 11 HRs, 22 RBI, 22 runs, and two stolen bases over 43 games. Contreras has been especially good lately, slashing .318/.423/.636 across his last seven contests. Now that the Braves have given him more playing time, he's showing the club, and fantasy managers, what he's capable of doing with the bat.

Mon Apr 4 202221:04William Contreras Could See Time At Third Base And Outfield
Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras could play third base and outfield occasionally this season, according to manager Brian Snitker. The young backstop has never played another position besides behind the plate, but the club has good depth at catcher with Travis d'Arnaud and Manny Pina on the roster as well. Contreras slashed .215/.303/.399 last season with eight home runs and no stolen bases over 52 games. Although he did hit .290 with a .873 OPS across 44 Triple-A games during 2021, so he's shown flashes. Contreras doesn't have much fantasy value, as his 632 ADP suggests, given the uncertainty of playing time. However, he could see that rise now that he's made the opening day roster and with this recent development. If Contreras begins the year swinging a hot bat, fantasy managers can make a move for him on the waiver wire.
