Sat Apr 2717:31Andres Gimenez Returns To Guardians Lineup On Saturday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is back in the Guardians lineup and hitting second for Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Gimenez was out on Friday against Braves' southpaw Chris Sale but gets a matchup today against Charlie Morton. The lefty has never faced Morton in his career. He's hitting for a fairly average .664 OPS but has been hitting better on the road, increasing his OPS to .785 away from Progressive Field. Charlie Morton has fared much worse against lefties in 2024, putting Gimenez in a favorable matchup. Those looking for an option in DFS formats may want to entertain adding the Guardians' lefty into their lineup on Saturday night.

Fri Apr 2617:09Andres Gimenez Out Against Braves
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is not in the club's starting lineup on Friday for the start of a big series in Atlanta against the Braves. With Gimenez starting on the bench, Gabriel Arias will start at the keystone and will hit seventh in the order against Braves left-hander Chris Sale. Gimenez is hitting a modest .258 (24-for-93) on the year with no home runs, 14 RBI and three stolen bases in his first 24 games. The left-handed hitter is surprisingly hitting better against southpaws (.280) in 29 plate appearances than he is against righties (.250), but he'll still get the day off against the lefty Sale. Arias has gone 14-for-50 with a homer, eight RBI and two steals early on but is hitless in his two career at-bats versus Sale.

Sat Apr 2014:19Andres Gimenez Out On Saturday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The 25-year-old went 1-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and a stolen base during Friday's 10-2 victory but will begin Saturday's game on the bench. Gimenez has shown a nice combination of power and speed over the last couple of seasons, slugging 32 homers and stealing 50 bags over the last two campaigns. He has hit .291 on the young season and while he has yet to hit a home run, he does have three stolen bases and a .736 OPS across his first 91 trips to the plate. The Guardians are off to a hot start, sitting atop the AL Central with a 14-6 record on the young season.

Thu Apr 1818:25Andres Gimenez Picks Up Two RBI In Thursday's Win
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 2-for-5 with two RBI during Thursday's 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. The 25-year-old has not cleared the fences yet this season, but he is enjoying a strong start nonetheless. Gimenez is slashing .293/.360/.387 with 11 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases through 19 games. He should continue to add in all those categories for the remainder of 2024 while reaching double-digits in home runs for the third straight year. Gimenez is comfortably a top-10 second base option for the rest of the season.

Thu Feb 2916:02Andres Gimenez Records First Spring Hit On Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez picked up his first hit of the spring on Wednesday in an 8-6 Cactus League loss to the Diamondbacks. The hit was a single in the bottom of the sixth inning and he later came around to score. The 2022 All-Star is now 1-for-8 in the spring with one strikeout. The left-handed hitter had a bit of a disappointing season in 2023 after a sixth-place MVP finish in 2022 had raised expectations, but he was top-12 or better in runs scored, RBI, and stolen bases among second basemen last season. He'll contribute in all these categories again in 2024, and look for him to hit better than last season's .251 average and .309 WOBA. Right now RotoBaller has him ranked at 109 overall, slightly ahead of his NFBC ADP of 113.

Wed Sep 13 202314:17Andres Gimenez Returns To Starting Lineup Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez will return to the starting lineup Wednesday afternoon versus the San Francisco Giants and left-hander Kyle Harrison. Gimenez didn't start Cleveland's 3-1 win on Tuesday night but he did strike out in a pinch-hitting appearance in the ninth inning. The 25-year-old has taken a step back at the plate this season, hitting .242 with 12 home runs, 27 stolen base, and a .691 OPS across 139 games after hitting a hefty .297 with 17 HR, 20 SB, and an .837 OPS across 146 contests a season ago. He continues to get nearly everyday reps at the keystone given his highly-regarded glove work while his power/speed combination is respectable at the second-base position.

Sat Aug 5 202301:13Andres Gimenez Revives With Three Extra-Base Hits In Win
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, two doubles, and an additional run scored in Friday's 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old's first-inning double allowed him to come around and score courtesy of a Jose Ramirez single. Gimenez then belted a two-run dinger during the fifth frame after attempting to bunt Steven Kwan over to second base earlier in the at-bat. Gimenez then laced another double down the right-field line in the seventh to cap off a much-needed big night at the dish for the struggling infielder. After heating up a bit in early July, Gimenez recently got mired in an 0-for-17 skid from July 28 to Aug. 1. Fantasy managers hope the 2022 All-Star gets back on track soon, as he's still slashing a weak .239/.309/.696 with 10 big flies, 42 RBI, and 17 stolen bases through 277 at-bats on the campaign.

Thu Jul 27 202312:51Andres Gimenez Steals 16th Base Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 0-for-4 at the plate on Wednesday in the team's 8-3 win over the visiting Kansas City Royals, but he also walked, stole his 16th base of the season and scored a run. Gimenez has half of his stolen bases this season in the month of July while hitting .240 (18-for-75) with four home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 20 games played. The 24-year-old should continue to hit high in the batting order after the team traded shortstop Amed Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday as well. Overall, Gimenez is slashing .241/.311/.385 with nine home runs, 15 doubles, four triples, 38 RBI and 44 runs scored in 389 plate appearances (97 games).

Sat Jul 15 202313:35Andres Gimenez Not In The Lineup On Saturday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Texas Rangers. This looks to just be a day off for the 24-year-old. Tyler Freeman is starting at second base and batting sixth against Rangers starter Andrew Heaney in his place. It was a very slow start for Gimenez to begin the season but he's looked much better of late, particularly over the last 15 contests. In that span, he's slashing .263/.364/.456 with two home runs, seven RBI, and seven stolen bases.

Fri Jun 23 202318:31Andres Gimenez To Sit Out On Friday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This appears to be a routine rest day for the 24-year-old infielder. The Guardians will play matchups here with left-hander Wade Miley on the mound. That means, Tyler Freeman will cover second base and bat sixth versus Miley here. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Gimenez on the bench.

Wed Jun 14 202318:19Andres Gimenez Back In Action On Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez (leg) has returned to the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres. The 24-year-old exited early on Sunday due to left leg tightness. He ended up sitting out on Tuesday, but it will only be a one-game absence for Gimenez. It's great to see he's back in the lineup and won't require a trip to the injured list. Gimenez will bat sixth and cover second base versus right-hander Michael Wacha on Wednesday.

Tue Jun 13 202318:27Andres Gimenez Remains Out On Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez (leg) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. Gimenez was removed from Sunday's contest due to left leg tightness. The team had a scheduled off-day on Monday, but it appears Gimenez is still not feeling 100 percent on Tuesday. The Guardians haven't placed Gimenez on the injured list, so it appears he's considered day-to-day right now. Tyler Freeman will cover second base and bat sixth versus right-hander Joe Musgrove on Tuesday.

Sat Jun 10 202316:45Andres Gimenez Absent On Saturday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is absent from Saturday's starting lineup versus the Houston Astros. This appears to be a routine rest day for the slumping infielder. Gimenez is slashing .241/.304/.352 with three home runs and 17 RBI across 59 games this season. Tyler Freeman will cover second base and bat seventh versus right-hander JP France on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Gimenez on the bench.

Tue May 23 202302:07Andres Gimenez Can't Shake Off Month-Long Slump
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 0-for-3 in Monday's 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. He is now just 1-for-17 across his last five games. Even worse, the 24-year-old is hitting a lowly .174 with only four runs scored and four RBI in his previous 25 outings dating back to April 22. Gimenez has mostly failed to capitalize on the momentum of his breakout campaign in 2022 when he was an All-Star, but at least he has seven stolen bases this year. The speedy infielder owns a feeble 20% hard-hit rate, so fantasy managers simply have to weather the storm. It's hard to justify a buy-low case, however, in redraft leagues right now.

Sun Apr 9 202312:00Andres Gimenez Hitting Fifth Against Mariners
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is hitting fifth in the batting order in the series finale on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners and right-hander George Kirby. Gimenez moves up the lineup for Cleveland after opening the year with a .343 average (12-for-35) with four doubles, one home run, four RBI, 10 runs scored and two stolen bases in his first nine games played. The 24-year-old continues to get on base for his fantasy managers at a regular clip and needs to remain in all starting lineups. Gimenez went hitless on Opening Day on March 30 but is now on an eight-game hitting streak since the season opener.

Tue Mar 28 202314:01Guardians, Andres Gimenez Finalizing Long-Term Extension
The Cleveland Guardians and second baseman Andres Gimenez are finalizing a long-term contract extension on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 24-year-old infielder was a first-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner in 2022 and had 7.4 Wins Above Replacement for the Guardians. He also finished his third MLB campaign with a .297/.371/.466 slash line with a career-high .837 OPS, 17 long balls, 69 RBI, 66 runs scored and 20 stolen bases in 557 plate appearances over 146 games played. His big season in 2022 put Gimenez firmly as a top-five fantasy asset at the keystone. However, a high BABIP last year points to potential regression across the board for the young infielder in 2023. UPDATE: the two sides agreed on a seven-year, $106.5 million extension with a $23 million club option for 2031.

Wed Nov 2 202200:53Andres Gimenez Earns Gold Glove Award Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez earned his first career Gold Glove Award Tuesday, one of four Guardians players to be recognized. The 24-year-old also contributed offensively in 2022, slashing .297/.371/.466 with 17 home runs, 69 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. His power potential is limited compared to other options at second base, but he will offer a nice overall floor and an upside in steals for fantasy managers in 2023 if he can reproduce his performance.

Sat Oct 22 202213:47Andres Gimenez Won't Need Surgery For Thumb Fracture
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez (thumb) was dealing with a non-displaced fracture in his left thumb over the last month of the season, but he won't need surgery and is expected to fully heal in a couple of weeks. Gimenez was hit by 25 pitches this year, which was the most in the American League. It helps explain why he went just 5-for-28 (.179) with no homers, one RBI and 14 strikeouts in seven postseason games after he slashed a strong .297/.371/.466 with an .837 OPS, 17 home runs, 69 RBI, 66 runs scored and 20 stolen bases in 491 regular season at-bats for the Guardians. The 24-year-old Venezuelan infielder should be ready to go for the 2023 season and will be a highly coveted fantasy commodity.

Tue Oct 18 202214:49Andres Gimenez Hitting Seventh On Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians infielder Andres Gimenez is batting seventh and starting at second base on Tuesday against the New York Yankees. The infielder moves down a spot in the order after hitting sixth in three of the first four games in the series. Gabriel Arias is batting sixth instead and starting at first base. Gimenez and Arias switching places in the order is the only lineup change for Cleveland as they get set to take on New York and left-handed starter Nestor Cortes. During the regular season, Gimenez hit .320 with five home runs and four stolen bases in 135 plate appearances when batting seventh.
