Sun Feb 414:06Jo Adell Has Uncertain Future With The Angels
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell has an uncertain future after the team signed veteran Aaron Hicks to help shore up their outfield. Hicks is primed to open the year in the outfield mix along with Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, and Mickey Moniak. Adell would appear to be on the outside looking in at the moment. The 24-year-old former top prospect has largely struggled in the majors, slashing just .214/.259/.366 with 18 home runs, 66 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 580 at-bats across four seasons. He had a chance to see regular playing time down the stretch last season due to all of the injuries that the Angels suffered but he suffered an oblique strain himself, which kept him out for two months. What makes this a tricky scenario is that Adell is out of minor-league options. If he doesn't make the opening day roster then he would land on waivers where he would most likely be claimed by another club. A change of scenery wouldn't be the worst thing for him but as of now, he's on the 40-man roster and has a chance to make the opening-day roster, according to general manager Perry Minasian. The GM cited that Hicks' signing shouldn't affect Adell's roster chances because injuries happen and depth is vital to any organization. With all of that said, the path to everyday at-bats seems slim for Adell and given his past struggles, he likely won't be given the benefit of the doubt unless an injury clears a path for him.

Tue Sep 5 202323:19Jo Adell Resumes Hitting
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) has resumed hitting at the team's spring training facilities in Arizona, and the team is hopeful that he can return this season. The 24-year-old hasn't appeared in a game since July 8 and was later moved to the 60-day injured list. "It's gonna take him a minute to ramp him up to where he can see live pitching," manager Phil Nevin said on Sept. 2. "Hopefully we can get him back at some point." With the Angels out of playoff contention at this point, there's no reason for the organization to rush Adell back into the fold. He's eligible to return from the IL on Sept. 7, but it's unlikely he'll be ready to return without playing in minor-league rehab games. Adell performed well at Triple-A Salt Lake, but he had six strikeouts in 14 plate appearances for the Angels before his injury.

Fri Jul 14 202318:12Anthony Rendon, Jo Adell Placed On Injured List
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) and outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) have been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 11. Rendon has been sidelined since July 4 due to a bruised right shin. The organization was hopeful he'd be ready after the All-Star break, but sadly that wasn't the case. Luis Rengifo is handling third base in his absence on Friday. Adell suffered a left-oblique strain during Saturday's game and missed Sunday's game because of it. The team has not given a timetable for Adell's return to the field. In a corresponding move, outfielder/infielder Trey Cabbage has been recalled to the active roster. The Angels also outrighted infielder David Fletcher to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Sun Jul 9 202309:08Jo Adell Suffers Oblique Injury On Saturday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) was forced from Saturday's tilt with the Los Angeles Dodgers due to left oblique discomfort. He will undergo further tests in a few days to determine the severity of the setback. It's a tough blow for the former first-rounder, who is getting an opportunity to shine in the major leagues with Mike Trout (hand) sidelined for several weeks. Oblique issues are notoriously tricky, so an injured-list stint cannot be ruled out. Stay tuned for another update on Adell, who said following the game it may be "too early" to tell how much time he may miss. The All-Star break comes at an opportune juncture for Adell to recover, in any event. The 24-year-old is 3-for-13 with a home run and three RBI so far this season.

Sat Jul 8 202322:01Jo Adell Exits Saturday's Game Early
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (undisclosed) exited Saturday's game against the Dodgers after his at-bat in the first inning. He felt discomfort during his only plate appearances and was pulled from Saturday's game. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout. The Angels did not announce why Adell was removed from the game. He is considered day-to-day for now, and more information should come out about Adell's undisclosed injury after the contest. David Fletcher replaced Adell on Saturday, while Luis Rengifo shifted from second base to left field. The Angels are off Sunday; the next chance for Adell to return will be after the All-Star break.

Fri Jul 7 202319:13Jo Adell Starting In Center Field
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell is making the start in center field and batting fifth in the lineup on Friday against right-hander Tony Gonsolin and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's Adell's second straight start since being called up earlier this week. He's only played in three games this year, but he's gone 3-for-8 with a home run, double, triple, three RBI and two runs scored and could see regular playing time in LA's outfield with Mike Trout (wrist) potentially missing the majority of the second half of the season. The 24-year-old post-hype prospect hasn't fared too well in parts of three previous big-league seasons, but he could just be a late bloomer. Now that he's going to get another real opportunity, fantasy managers should scoop him up if he's available. Adell is only rostered in eight percent of Yahoo leagues right now.

Tue Jul 4 202315:09Jo Adell Back With The Angels
With Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) going on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, the Angels recalled outfielder Jo Adell and right-hander Gerardo Reyes from Triple-A Salt Lake. Right-hander Victor Mederos was optioned to Double-A Rocket City after Monday's game. Adell should see extended playing time in the Angels' outfield for at least the next several weeks with Trout out anywhere from four to eight weeks. The 24-year-old former top prospect has yet to put it all together in the majors, as he's hit just .215/.261/.362 with 16 homers, 61 RBI and six steals in 162 games in four seasons. However, he has been dominating minor-league pitching in 2023 to the tune of 23 home runs and a .956 in 72 games for Salt Lake. Adell is at least worth picking up in deep-mixed leagues if you need more outfield depth.

Mon Jun 26 202320:15Jo Adell Recalled, Eduardo Escobar On Restricted List
The Los Angeles Angels recalled outfielder Jo Adell from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday and placed infielder Eduardo Escobar on the restricted list in a corresponding move. Adell, a former top prospect for the Angels, has played in just one game for the team this year and has struggled in 561 career plate appearances at the big-league level with a .215/.261/.362 slash line, 16 home runs, 61 RBI and six stolen bases. It remains to be seen how long he'll stick around, but he was hitting a solid .277 (70-for-253) with 21 home runs, 14 doubles, 53 RBI, seven stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 66 games for Salt Lake before his latest call-up. Escobar, who was acquired in a trade with the Mets last week, will miss some time while he takes his citizenship test.

Fri Jun 9 202318:11Jo Adell Absent On Friday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell is absent from the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old made his season debut versus the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. He blasted a 451-foot home run off Drew Smyly in what ended up being a victory for the Halos. A day later, Adell is on the bench versus tough right-hander Luis Castillo. Mickey Moniak will cover right field and bat seventh versus Castillo on Friday. The expectation is that Hunter Renfroe should be back from the paternity leave list by the end of the weekend. Adell is likely going to be optioned back to Triple-A once Renfroe returns.

Thu Jun 8 202318:56Jo Adell Batting Sixth In 2023 Debut
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell is manning right field and hitting sixth in his season debut on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. The 24-year-old gets yet another crack at the major-league level after being overmatched to the tune of a .215 BA and .616 OPS across 522 career at-bats since 2020. Adell is taking Hunter Renfroe's (paternity leave) spot on the roster in the meantime and will have a chance to make an impression. The former No. 10 overall pick was slashing .278/.365/.593 with 18 homers, 43 RBI, and four stolen bags over 242 plate appearances at Triple-A Salt Lake in 2023. Keep a very close eye on how Adell fares during Renfroe's stead. However, it may not even last through the weekend.

Wed Jun 7 202318:50Jo Adell Recalled From Minors
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is a former first round pick of the Angels from the 2017 Amateur Draft. Last season, Adell hit .224/.264/.373 with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 88 games with the Angels. He has been on fire in the minors, which has resulted in his call up. He's slashing .278/.365/.593 with 18 home runs and 43 RBI in 55 games in Triple-A this season. Adell is well worth a look in deep leagues given his power output in the minors so far. In a corresponding move, outfielder Hunter Renfroe has been placed on the paternity leave list.

Fri Apr 28 202300:31Jo Adell First To 10 Home Runs In Pacific Coast League
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell is the first player to reach 10 home runs in the Pacific Coast League this season. The 24-year-old is off to a scorching start in 2023, posting a .289/.393/.700 slash line through 24 games. Dominating in the minor leagues is nothing new for Adell, who was heralded among baseball's top prospects not long ago. Multiple unsuccessful stints at the major-league level have hurt Adell's outlook, but the offensive upside remains. Between Mike Trout, Taylor Wardand Hunter Renfroe, the Angels are without an everyday playing opportunity for Adell right now. Regardless, if he stays hot at the plate, Adell should get another shot before too long. He's worth a speculative stash in deeper leagues.

Sat Apr 8 202322:34Jo Adell Homers In Fifth Straight
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell has now homered in five straight games. The 24-year-old is off to a hot start at Triple-A, hitting .370 with five home runs, 11 RBI, and nine runs across eight games for the Salt Lake Bees. He didn't make the Angels' Opening Day roster but continues to tear it up the minor leagues making the case to be called up to the big leagues soon. The former top prospect struggled in the majors in 2022, slashing .223/.263/.372 slash line and 37.9 percent strikeout rate. Adell credited improved swing decisions for his hot start in Triple-A. The Angels have Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, and Hunter Renfroe locked in the team's starting outfield. Adell wouldn't have an everyday role if called up by the Angels but remains a stash in deep-league formats due to his power upside.

Wed Aug 17 202215:06Jo Adell Still Sidelined Wednesday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (thumb) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. Adell injured his thumb in Monday's game and was held out of the lineup on Tuesday, although he did hit two home runs while facing right-hander Michael Lorenzen in a simulated game. With an off day on Thursday, there's a good chance that the 23-year-old will return to action on Friday for the series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Steven Duggar is getting the start in left for the Halos on Wednesday and is hitting seventh against Mariners right-hander George Kirby. Duggar has played in only 28 games with the Angels, Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants this year, and he's hitting only .159 (11-for-69) with no home runs, four RBI and five stolen bases.

Wed Aug 17 202211:08Jo Adell Expected To Return Soon
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (thumb) injured his right thumb on Monday night and felt discomfort gripping a baseball on Tuesday, which is why he was held out of the lineup against the Seattle Mariners. However, Adell faced right-hander Michael Lorenzen in a simulated game and hit two home runs. He said he can swing without issues and expects to return soon, but he's waiting for the swelling in his thumb to go down. Adell hasn't done much in his third MLB season in 2022, as he's hitting .227/.276/.356 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases in 52 games played. In the month of August, he's gone 9-for-40 (.225) with a homer, two RBI and seven runs scored in 14 games.

Thu Aug 4 202220:50Jo Adell Smashes His Fourth Home Run Thursday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell went yard on Thursday when his club lost 8-7 to the Oakland Athletics. The home run was a solo shot, and he was 1-for-4 overall with a strikeout. Adell, a former top prospect, has yet to put it all together in the big leagues, owning a .609 career OPS and is slashing .227/.277/.364 with four home runs, eight runs, and 14 RBI over 41 games this year. Given the 23-year-old's lack of success, fantasy managers should leave him on the waiver wire for the time being.

Wed Jul 13 202218:28Jo Adell Recalled On Wednesday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. The once top former prospect has failed to establish himself in the big leagues. Possibly, this time he'll be ready to finally make the correct adjustments to his game. The 23-year-old is hitting .250/.276/.417 with three homers and 10 RBI in 25 games with the Halos this season. Fantasy managers can use a wait-and-see approach with Adell. In a corresponding move, Monte Harrison has been designated for assignment. The 26-year-old outfielder struggled during his brief time with the big league club. Although, Harrison still has plenty of talent, so another organization should give him a chance.

Sun Jun 5 202212:09Taylor Ward To Injured List, Jo Adell Back In Big Leagues
The Los Angeles Angels placed outfielder Taylor Ward (hamstring) on the injured list with a right hamstring strain on Sunday and recalled outfielder Jo Adell from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Ward suffered the injury on Friday. It remains to be seen how long he'll need before returning to the Halos outfield. Before the injury, the 28-year-old had been excellent with a .333/.443/.644 slash line, a 1.087 OPS, 10 home runs, 26 RBI, 30 runs scored and one stolen base in 158 plate appearances over 38 games. Juan Lagares played right field on Saturday, but Adell should see most of the starts there now that he's back with the club. Adell has struggled to a .207 average with 10 homers, 41 RBI and three steals in 92 games over the last three seasons with the Angels, and he hit only .222/.341/.597 with a .938 OPS, six homers and 15 RBI in 19 games with Salt Lake. Adell is worth adding in deep mixed leagues for his power/speed upside.

Tue May 3 202215:30Angels Option Jo Adell To The Minors
The Los Angeles Angels optioned outfielder Jo Adell to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday and recalled infielder Jose Rojas in a corresponding move. Adell wasn't off to a terrible start for the Angels this year -- he was hitting .231 (15-for-65) with three home runs, nine RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base in 19 games -- but the Angels want to get him more consistent playing time in the minor leagues now that both Mike Trout and Brandon Marsh are healthy and playing every day. The Angels top prospect was mostly playing against left-handed starters, and he's mostly been a disappointment in his 92 games at the major league level over three seasons, sporting a .210/.252/.357 slash line with 10 home runs, 42 RBI and three steals.

Tue Apr 12 202200:57Jo Adell Homers, Doubles Monday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell picked up his first hits of the season in loud fashion in Monday's 6-2 win over the Marlins, going 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, two RBI, and a strikeout. The 23-year-old obliterated a second-inning Elieser Hernandez fastball over the center-field wall and then lined an eighth-inning offering off the center-field warning track for an RBI double. Adell has always been an intriguing fantasy prospect but has yet to figure things out at the big-league level. He is batting just .154 to start the season, but, hopefully, he can get things going while maintaining production in the power department.
