Wed Feb 2114:41Ty France Added Bat Speed This Offseason
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France met with the media on Wednesday and explained how he added 3.5 mph of bat speed to his swing. He mentioned it was 'crazy' to see how bad his swing was, so he decided to clean up his mechanics, apparently successfully. The 29-year-old indeed took a step back at the plate in 2023 when he hit .250 with just 12 home runs and a .703 OPS across a career-high 665 plate appearances. That production was worth a 104 wRC+ that grades out just 4% above the league average. However, he posted a minimum wRC+ of 125 from 2020-2022, but mostly due to high batting averages and low strikeout rates. His .147 career isolated power leaves much to be desired at the first base position, putting a significant damper on France's fantasy value.

Mon Sep 4 202314:50Ty France Returns To Mariners Lineup
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (elbow) is back at first base and is hitting sixth in the batting order on Monday against right-hander Tejay Antone and the Cincinnati Reds. France was hit by a pitch on the right elbow on Saturday and was held out of Sunday's action as a result. The 29-year-old will be back in there on Monday, though, to start a series against the Reds in Cincinnati. France picked things up with the bat in the month of August, but he's still hitting a mediocre .254/.341/.375 on the season with only 10 home runs, 30 doubles, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored in 560 plate appearances over 132 games played. He has only four hits and five strikeouts in his last 18 at-bats over seven games since Aug. 26.

Sun Sep 3 202312:53Ty France Out On Sunday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (elbow) is not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday as they take on the New York Mets in the series finale. Mike Ford will get the start at first base and is hitting seventh in the order against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill. It shouldn't be a surprise that France is resting on Sunday after he was removed from Saturday's game early after he was hit by a pitch on his right elbow. For now, consider the 29-year-old to be day-to-day and check back on Monday to see if he's back in there for the start of a series against the Reds in Cincinnati. After making his first All-Star team in 2022, France has been mediocre this year by hitting .254 (125-for-493) with 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored in 132 games and 560 trips to the plate.

Sat Sep 2 202321:33Ty France Exits Saturday's Game Early After HBP
Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France (elbow) exited Saturday's game against the New York Mets early after being hit by a pitch on his right elbow. He appeared to be in a lot of pain and was immediately removed from the game. The 29-year-old went 1-for-2 before leaving. Mike Ford replaced him in the top of the sixth inning. The severity of France's injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. France will undergo further evaluation and the Mariners will provide an update after the game. Ford should see an increase in playing time if France were to miss any games. The 31-year-old is slashing .228/.314/.491 with 13 homers and 28 RBI over 194 plate appearances in 2023.

Wed Aug 30 202316:00Ty France Back In Wednesday's Lineup
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is starting at first base and is batting fifth in the lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Oakland Athletics and right-hander Zach Neal. France was removed from Tuesday's contest against Oakland early in the game as a precaution after he was hit on his left wrist during a pickoff attempt. The injury never looked too serious, and the 29-year-old won't have to miss any additional time. He hasn't been nearly as good as he was in 2022 in his only All-Star season, but he's batting a strong .281 (25-for-89) with three home runs, six doubles, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored in 26 games (25 starts) in the month of August. France has gone 10-for-35 (.286) with two doubles and an RBI in 10 starts since Aug. 19.

Tue Aug 29 202323:01Ty France Injured Tuesday Night
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) left Tuesday night's game against the Oakland Athletics early with a left-wrist contusion. The injury occurred when France was hit in the wrist on a pickoff attempt in the second inning, so his removal from the game was most likely precautionary. Before departing prematurely, France went hitless in his only at-bat. He was replaced at first base by Mike Ford. Fantasy managers should consider the 29-year-old to be day-to-day until further notice. Check back on Wednesday to see if he's back in action. France hasn't been nearly as good as he was in 2022 when he made his first All-Star team. In 128 games (548 plate appearances) this year coming into Tuesday's game, he was hitting .256 (124-for-484) with 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 68 runs scored for the M's.

Wed Aug 16 202309:35Ty France Homers, Plays Hero In Tuesday's Win
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France had an excellent night at the plate on Tuesday, hitting a home run and a double while providing a game-winning, two-run single in the 10th inning to secure a 10-8 win over the hosting Kansas City Royals. The game-winner came after closer Andres Munoz blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning and helped keep the Mariners within two games of the Toronto Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot in the American League. For the season, the 29-year-old is hitting .257 with 10 homers and a .724 OPS in 116 games, his worst production since his 69-game rookie season in 2019. Tuesday's big night snapped a three-game hitless streak for France.

Mon Jul 31 202319:24Mariners Listening On Teoscar Hernandez, Ty France
The Seattle Mariners willingness to listen to trade talks on outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and first baseman Ty France ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline is a significant development. The Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies are looking for right-handed hitters. In return, the M's will be looking for young bats. Seattle traded outfielder AJ Pollock and utility man Mark Matthias to the Giants on Monday, but they could still deal Hernandez and/or France by Tuesday. Hernandez has hit .238/.288/.408 with 16 homers, 58 RBI, five steals and 45 runs in 105 games in his first year in Seattle. Meanwhile, France is hitting .253/.324/.367 with only seven homers, 39 RBI and 57 runs in 392 at-bats in 2023.

Thu Jul 6 202317:41Ty France Returns To Thursday's Lineup
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (undisclosed) is back in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Ronel Blanco. France missed the team's last three games after being involved in a scary collision with Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes while running the bases in Sunday's contest, but he's recovered now and will return on Thursday. Fantasy managers may want to keep him on their benches after he's gone just 6-for-37 (.162) with no homers, two RBI and eight strikeouts in his last nine games since June 24. After making his first All-Star team in 2022, France has come back to Earth a bit with a .267/.334/.401 slash line, seven homers, 22 doubles, 36 RBI and 52 runs scored in his first 82 games in 2023.

Wed Jul 5 202319:09Ty France To Sit Out On Wednesday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (ribs) remains out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The right-handed slugger will miss his third game in a row due to a lingering rib issue. France suffered last weekend when he collided with Isaac Paredes in the field. The Mariners haven't placed France on the injured list, so that's a good sign. The hope is that France can get back on the field within the next few days. Mike Ford will cover first base and bat cleanup versus right-hander Alex Cobb on Wednesday.

Tue Jul 4 202315:59Ty France Scratched From Lineup Against Giants
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (undisclosed) was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. France will now miss his second straight game after suffering an undisclosed injury on Sunday in a scary collision with Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes while running the bases. The 28-year-old shouldn't be out much longer, though, and fantasy managers should continue to consider him day-to-day. The right-handed slugger is currently hitting .267 (86-for-322) on the year with seven home runs, 22 doubles, 36 RBI and 52 runs scored in 82 games and 356 trips to the plate. Mike Ford is getting the start at first base for the M's on Tuesday and is hitting fifth in the lineup against Giants right-hander Keaton Winn.

Mon Jul 3 202321:27Ty France Not In Monday's Lineup
Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France is not in the starting lineup for his team's Monday game against the San Francisco Giants. While there has been no word of an injury to France, he did collide with Isaac Paredes in the field on Sunday, so there could be some lingering soreness. France should be back in the lineup in the next day or so, provided he isn't dealing with anything serious.

Thu May 25 202319:31Ty France Returns Thursday Against A's
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is back in the starting lineup on Thursday, starting at first base and hitting second in the lineup against the Oakland Athletics and left-hander JP Sears. France was hit by a pitch on his wrist on Tuesday and didn't play on Wednesday, but he's back in there now for fantasy managers. The 28-year-old has hit better in May than he did in April, going 23-for-82 (.281) with four doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 20 games played. Although he has yet to go deep against a left-hander, France is hitting a decent .277 (13-for-47) with four doubles and seven RBI against southpaws so far in 2023, so fantasy managers will want to get him back into their lineups on Thursday night.

Thu May 25 202309:22Ty France Likely Available Thursday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) should be available to play Thursday's matchup against JP Sears and the Oakland Athletics, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. The 28-year-old was removed from Tuesday's game after a pitch hit him in the wrist, but the X-rays came back negative and he was just dealing with some swelling. Hopefully, France can stay hot when he returns, as he's sporting a .280 average in the month of May, and overall he's slashing .261/.341/.380 with three homers, 27 runs, 21 RBI, and one steal across 48 games.

Wed May 24 202318:11Ty France Absent On Wednesday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) is being held out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. France left early during Tuesday's game after being hit by a pitch in the wrist. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so it sounds like he's only dealing with a wrist contusion. The Mariners are considering him day-to-day, so fantasy managers should expect him to miss a game or two. In the meantime, Sam Haggerty will cover first base and bat ninth versus lefty Ken Waldichuk.

Wed May 24 202309:23Ty France Avoids A Fractured Wrist
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (wrist) left Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics early after a pitch hit him on his left wrist. However, the good news is the 28-year-old avoided a fracture, according to Corey Brock of The Athletic. France is experiencing "significant swelling," though, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, as he may have to miss a game or two. The former 34th-round pick has seen a drop in production from 2022, slashing .261/.341/.380 with three bombs, 27 runs, 21 RBI, and one steal over 48 games. Those numbers still play well in most formats, so hopefully, he can return to action sooner rather than later.

Wed May 24 202300:49Ty France Exits Early Tuesday After Hit By Pitch In Hand
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (hand) exited Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Athletics in the bottom of the eighth inning after getting hit by a fastball in his left hand. Sam Haggerty replaced him on the basepaths. France had gone 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a strikeout before exiting. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more updates tomorrow regarding the severity of his injury. The 28-year-old has not yet tapped into his power this season but has still slashed .261/.341/.380 with three HR and 21 RBI.

Sat Apr 29 202313:22Ty France Taking A Seat On Saturday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France is getting the day off on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is a routine day off for the 28-year-old veteran who has had a rough go over the last few weeks. He's slashing just .198/.313/.245 with no home runs and nine RBI over the last 15 contests. France should be ready to go for Sunday's finale. Sam Haggerty is filling in at first base and batting ninth in France's place.

Thu Apr 13 202312:20Ty France Has Two Hits In Win Wednesday
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk in the team's 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday at Wrigley Field. France has been extremely hot in the early going for Seattle and his fantasy managers, going 20-for-56 (.357) with six doubles, one home run, nine RBI, a stolen base and 13 runs scored in his first 13 games in 2023. Fantasy managers would probably like more long balls in there, but you can't really complain about the 30-year-old veteran's production to this point. Continue to throw him out in daily fantasy lineups until he cools off at the plate.

Sat Jan 14 202312:25Ty France Agrees To One-Year, $4.1 Million Deal
The Seattle Mariners agreed to a one-year, $4.1 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration with first baseman Ty France. The 28-year-old has found a home in Seattle and has had a really nice last couple of seasons. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2022 and finished with a .274/.338/.436 slash line, .774 OPS, career-high 20 home runs, career-high 83 RBI and 65 runs scored in 613 plate appearances over 140 games played. France isn't elite by any means, but he's not a bad consolation prize at the first base position and resides in a Mariners lineup that is dangerous. He has produced a .283 average, .795 OPS, 38 home runs and 157 RBI in his last two seasons with the M's.
