The Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-hander James Norwood from the San Diego Padres on Wednesday in exchange for minor league infielder Kervin Pichardo and cash. The Padres designated Norwood for assignment on Wednesday, but now he'll head to the Phillies to close out spring training. The 28-year-old has spent three of his four MLB seasons pitching for the Chicago Cubs, and he made five appearances for the Friars in 2021. In 27 career major league innings, Norwood has a 3.67 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 24 strikeouts. He'll likely function as organizational relief depth. Pichardo, 20, hit .247/.476/.466 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 35 games over three minor league stops in the Phillies organization in his first full professional season last year.
