Fri Sep 29 202316:15Miguel Cabrera To Join Tigers Front Office
Following Sunday's regular season finale, Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera will become the team's special assistant to the president of baseball operations. Cabrera will officially hang up his cleats and retire after a storied career that will surely lead him to being a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But when he's done putting on a uniform, he'll remain with Detroit and work in their front office. The 40-year-old Venezuelan only has four home runs in his final big-league season, and he's also hitting .254 (82-for-323) with just 33 RBI and 20 runs scored. Miggy is finishing his career off strong, though, going 18-for-60 (.300) with a homer, two doubles, nine RBI and four runs scored in his 16 starts in September.

Fri Sep 22 202300:22Miguel Cabrera Leaves Thursday's Game Early
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera was removed from Thursday's game in the sixth inning after fouling a pitch off his lower leg. There are no signs of a fracture and Cabrera will be re-evaluated after the game. Miggy is in the midst of his final season of baseball, one which will hopefully not end with this injury. It is very likely that even if Cabrera is injured, he will take an at-bat in the team's final game to get one last hoorah. Although he's slowed down the past few years, Miggy has had an inner-circle hall-of-fame caliber career.

Tue Aug 8 202314:54Miguel Cabrera Moved Up To Cleanup Spot Tuesday
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera is being moved up to the cleanup spot for Tuesday's contest against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Sonny Gray. It's the future Hall of Famer's first assignment in the cleanup spot in the 2023 season as he has largely hit seventh for A.J. Hinch this season. Cabrera's final tour in the big leagues appeared disastrous out of the gate but the 40-year-old heated up along with the weather this season, hitting .291 with a 10.6% BB%, a .768 OPS, and .340 wOBA since June 1, good for a 118 wRC+ that sits 18% above the league average. Cabrera is 8-for-23 (.348) with two homers and five walks versus five strikeouts in 28 career plate appearances against Gray.

Wed Jun 21 202312:52Miguel Cabrera Getting A Breather Against Royals
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera will get the day off on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals in the series finale. The future Hall of Famer started seven of the team's last eight games and will take a regular day of rest in what is his final MLB season. The 40-year-old isn't of any use to fantasy managers in the final season of his storied career, as he's hitting just .233 (30-for-129) with one home run, nine doubles, 10 RBI and eight runs scored in 40 games played. The 12-time All-Star and two-time MVP has started to heat up in the month of June, though, going 12-for-37 (.324) with a homer, five doubles, three RBI and four runs in 12 games. Kerry Carpenter is serving as Detroit's DH on Wednesday and is batting third against Royals right-hander Brady Singer.

Wed May 3 202312:15Miguel Cabrera Out With Illness Wednesday
Detroit Tigers designated hitter/first baseman Miguel Cabrera (illness) is out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Wednesday due to an illness. It remains to be seen if the 40-year-old veteran slugger will return for the second game of the twin bill, but it's probably unlikely. With Miggy out in Game 1, Eric Haase is serving as the team's designated hitter and will bat cleanup against Mets left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Cabrera continues to struggle offensively in his final MLB season in 2023, as he's currently hitting only .189 (10-for-53) with three doubles, no home runs, three RBI and no runs scored in 15 games played.

Tue Nov 29 202200:02Miguel Cabrera To Retire After 2023 Season
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera announced Monday that the 2023 season will be his last. It will be the 21st season of the 39-year-old's Hall-of-Fame career. Cabrera hasn't been fantasy relevant for the past several seasons and slashed .254/.305/.317 with five home runs and 43 RBI through 433 plate appearances in 2022. However, he spent over a decade as a top corner infield and overall fantasy option with the Florida Marlins and the Tigers.

Thu Sep 29 202200:15Miguel Cabrera Homers In Win Wednesday
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera homered Wednesday, a blast that could potentially be the last of his storied career. He went 2-for-4 with the two-run shot, providing all the offense in a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. It was his fifth of the season and the 507th of his career. Cabrera has fought through injuries this year to produce a .621 OPS with 25 runs scored, 41 RBI, and one steal in 417 plate appearances. Mon Sep 19 202219:23Miguel Cabrera Activated From Injured List
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (biceps) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Monday, and he immediately returned to designated hitter duties while batting cleanup against the Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Tyler Wells. In a corresponding move, the team optioned utility man Kody Clemens to Triple-A Toledo. The 39-year-old Venezuelan has really slowed down in 2022, as he entered Monday's game hitting just .256/.305/.317 with four home runs, 37 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base in 360 at-bats. The future Hall of Famer probably won't play every day, as the Tigers will be wanting to let the youngsters -- most notably first-rounder Spencer Torkelson -- see as much playing time as possible to close out the year.

Sun Sep 4 202212:58Miguel Cabrera Lands On The 10-Day Injured List
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Cabrera started to feel discomfort in his biceps on Friday and left that game early before missing Saturday's game entirely. First baseman/third baseman Josh Lester was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Cabrera should be out around two weeks and should return before the end of the regular season.

Sat Sep 3 202213:55Miguel Cabrera Sitting Out On Saturday
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (biceps) is not in the lineup on Saturday vs. the Kansas City Royals. Cabrera was lifted from Friday's contest with biceps discomfort so that appears to be why he's missing from Saturday's lineup as well. Spencer Torkelson, who was recently recalled, is taking over at first base and Jeimer Candelario is slotted in as the designated hitter against Royals starter Jonathan Heasley. Cabrera should be considered day-to-day for now.

Fri Aug 5 202216:15Miguel Cabrera Plans To Retire After 2023 Season
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera said that he has no intention of retiring after this year. His plan is to finish out his contract and retire after the 2023 season. Cabrera's numbers at the plate are certainly in decline in his age-39 season this year, as he's hitting .268/.317/.332 with a .650 OPS, only four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base in 356 plate appearances over 91 games. The 12-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer isn't much of an option in fantasy at this point of his career, and he'll attempt to make it through one more season in 2023 before ending his amazing career. Miggy is currently battling some knee pain and will play every other game for the next week.

Fri Aug 5 202215:00Miguel Cabrera Taking The Day Off Friday
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cabrera is battling a bum knee right now and is expected to start every other game for at least the next week. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer is nearing the end of the road and is hitting just .268/.317/.332 with four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base in 325 at-bats for Detroit. With Miggy on the bench, Victor Reyes is serving as the designated hitter and will bat second on Friday against Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Reyes is hitting only .229 (8-for-35) with three RBI in 10 games over the last two weeks, and he has just one home run on the season in 48 games played.

Fri Jul 8 202211:30Miguel Cabrera Added To All-Star Team
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been added to the American League All-Star roster by commissioner Rob Manfred. The 39-year-old has been added to the roster for his accomplishments over his 20-year career. This is his 12th All-Star selection and his first since the 2016 campaign. The future Hall of Famer is hitting .308 with three home runs and 31 RBI over 70 games this season. There isn't much fantasy value here from Cabrera outside of his batting average. He can remain ignored in most fantasy formats, but is well deserving of another All-Star selection.

Wed Jul 6 202217:17Miguel Cabrera Records Three Runs Batted In On Wednesday
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-3 on Wednesday with a single, and he also drove in three runs to help beat the Cleveland Guardians 8-2. The veteran slugger is now batting .308 across 70 games. Cabrera continues to hit for no power though, with just three home runs on his stat line, along with 31 RBI and 18 runs. Fantasy managers shouldn't consider the 39-year-old unless all they're looking for is batting average.

Tue Jun 14 202214:55Miguel Cabrera Not Starting On Tuesday
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera isn't in the starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Chicago White Sox and right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease. Cabrera is batting .289 with a .328 on-base percentage and three home runs in 201 plate appearances this season. It'll be Austin Meadows moving from the outfield to designated hitter to start at Cabrera's usual position against Cease and the White Sox. Meadows is batting cleanup on Tuesday and is hitting .246 with a .343 on-base percentage in 140 plate appearances in 2022 for Detroit.

Tue May 31 202211:03Miguel Cabrera Back In The Lineup Tuesday
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (back) is back in the starting lineup and will serve as the DH and hit third on Tuesday against Minnesota Twins left-hander Devin Smeltzer in the first game of a doubleheader. Cabrera missed the last two games due to lower-back tightness, but fantasy managers can now return the 39-year-old to their starting lineups. However, don't be surprised if the Tigers give him some more rest and sit him out in Game 2. Miggy doesn't have a ton of power these days -- only three home runs -- but he still makes plenty of contact and has an overall slash line of .294/.340/.399 with 18 RBI and 12 runs scored in 143 at-bats in 2022.

Mon May 30 202211:04Miguel Cabrera Still Out Monday
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Minnesota Twins. Cabrera will sit out for the second straight game, but fantasy managers should continue to consider him day-to-day for now. The 39-year-old veteran is hitting a solid .294/.340/.399 on the season with three home runs, 18 RBI and 12 runs scored in 143 at-bats. Miggy doesn't have prodigious power like he once had, but he's still an excellent source for average. Harold Castro will serve as the DH on Monday and hit leadoff against Twins right-hander Dylan Bundy. Castro has been solid this year in limited action, going 26-for-80 with four home runs and nine RBI in 27 games. He'll have added DFS sleeper appeal in the leadoff spot.

Sat May 28 202221:28Miguel Cabrera Exits Early With Back Tightness
Detroit Tigers' first baseman Miguel Cabrera (back) exited Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early with lower-back tightness. The 39-year-old went 0-for-3 before leaving. Eric Haase replaced Cabrera in the eighth inning. He is slashing .294/.340/.399 with three home runs, 18 RBI, and 12 runs across 40 games in 2022. The severity of Cabrera's injury is unknown now; he's considered day-to-day. Haase would see an uptick in playing time while Cabrera is sidelined. The 29-year-old can be left on the waiver wire after slashing .172/.243/.281 across 24 games in 2022.

Tue May 10 202211:02Miguel Cabrera, Spencer Torkelson Sitting In Game 1
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera and first baseman Spencer Torkelson are both sitting out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. Austin Meadows will serve as the DH and will hit second, while Harold Castro draws the start at first base and is hitting fifth against A's right-hander Frankie Montas. Fantasy managers should expect both Miggy and Torkelson to return to the starting lineup for the second game of the twin bill against right-hander Adrian Martinez. Cabrera already reached the 3,000-hit milestone this year, but he has only one home run and nine RBI in his first 25 games. Torkelson, meanwhile, is hitting just .160 with three dingers and eight RBI in his first 26 major league contests.
