Tue Sep 12 202314:56Jake Rogers Re-Enters Starting Lineup Tuesday
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers is back in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds and left-hander Brandon Williamson. In fact, Rogers is starting out of the cleanup spot for just the fourth time this season, all of which have come over the last month. The slick-fielding backstop has struggled at the plate of late, posting a .608 OPS in the month of August followed up by a .448 OPS and monstrous 44% K% across 25 plate appearances so far in September. His average is down to just .205 on the season, although he does have a healthy 16 homers across 95 appearances. Nonetheless, strikeouts continue to be a major concern with a hefty 35.3% K% across 575 career trips to the plate.

Wed Aug 30 202314:54Jake Rogers Back In The Lineup Wednesday
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (hand) will return to the starting lineup Wednesday versus New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole. Rogers injured his hand on a catcher's interference play last week and has given way to Carson Kelly behind the plate for the first two games of the Tigers' current four-game set with the Yankees. Rogers has flashed some notable power with 15 home runs while boasting an impressive 80th percentile ranking in hard-hit rate while sitting in the 79th percentile in barrel rate. However, the 28-year-old's .203 average and 32.2% K% have his production sitting below league average, as per his 88 wRC+. Nonetheless, Rogers' power makes him a fine fit in two-catcher leagues while making him a solid streaming option in attractive matchups.

Tue Aug 29 202317:18Jake Rogers Available Off The Bench Tuesday
Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that catcher Jake Rogers (hand) doesn't have a broken bone in his left hand and will be available to pinch hit or catch on Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees. Carson Kelly will make a second straight start behind the dish and bat ninth against Yankees right-hander Michael King. Rogers' hand was hit when he was called for catcher's interference last week and he's receiving a second straight day off on Tuesday. The 28-year-old backstop does have a career-high 15 home runs in 88 games for Detroit this year, but he's also hitting just .203 (53-for-261) with 37 RBI, 11 doubles and 36 runs scored in his 292 plate appearances.

Wed Aug 9 202315:00Jake Rogers On The Bench Wednesday
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers is out of the starting lineup Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Bailey Ober. Rogers helped steer the Tigers to a 6-0 victory on Tuesday night with a seventh-inning solo home run as he continues to establish himself as one of the better overall catchers in the American League. While he's hitting just .214, Rogers has 14 home runs, a 9.7 BB%, and a .741 OPS in 76 appearances, good for a 103 wRC+. Add in his elite defense behind the plate and Rogers' 2.0 fWAR ranks eighth among catchers with at least 240 plate appearances and fourth in the American League. The 28-year-old's encouraging season could put him on the fantasy radar in 2024 while he's already an asset in two catcher leagues.

Sat Jul 8 202312:51Jake Rogers Grabs Some Rest Saturday
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers will take the day off on Saturday with the team facing the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. With Rogers starting on the bench, Eric Haase is behind the plate and will hit seventh in the batting order against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Rogers is hitting just over the Mendoza Line at .201 (32-for-159), but he does have a useful 11 home runs in 57 games for the weak catcher position in fantasy. He's been much better of late at the plate as well, going 9-for-30 (.300) with two home runs, two doubles, three RBI and seven runs scored in his last 10 games since June 25. Haase is hitting just .213 (45-for-211) with only three homers and should be avoided against the All-Star Gausman.

Fri Mar 17 202314:35Jake Rogers Injured On Friday
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (elbow) was removed from Friday's Grapefruit League game against the New York Yankees early after being drilled on his left elbow by a pitch. He was replaced by Andrew Knapp. Hopefully Rogers' injury isn't very serious, as he came into the day hitting a solid .333 (7-for-21) with two doubles, three home runs, three RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base in 11 spring contests. The 27-year-old missed all of last year while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, and his fantasy appeal will be limited in 2023 behind Eric Haase in Detroit. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere in two-catcher leagues, as Rogers has a career batting average under .200 in his time in the big leagues.

Tue Dec 6 202213:17Jake Rogers Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (elbow) has started a normal offseason conditioning program and is throwing up to 105 feet without symptoms, according to the team. Rogers is expected to be ready for spring training next year. He was swinging a bate late last season, but he wasn't ready for full activity. The 27-year-old resumed throwing in early November after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. Rogers is regarded as a defense-first catcher and won't have much appeal in fantasy leagues next year, even if he's fully healthy. Eric Haase is the team's top catcher on the depth chart for the time being.

Mon Mar 7 202216:32Jake Rogers Resumes Throwing
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (elbow) posted a video on Twitter of himself throwing after undergoing Tommy John surgery last September. Despite the progress, Rogers is likely to be out for most, if not all, of the 2022 season, even with the delay due to the ongoing lockout. If the 26-year-old does make it back later this year, he's unlikely to see much playing time behind the dish behind Tucker Barnhart and Eric Haase. Rogers hit .239 (27-for-113) with six home runs and 17 RBI in 127 plate appearances over 38 games for the Tigers last year before undergoing Tommy John surgery. In parts of two big-league seasons, he has a .182/.264/.378 slash line with 10 homers and 25 RBI in 255 plate appearances.

Wed Sep 8 202118:16Jake Rogers Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (forearm) underwent Tommy John surgery in Dallas on Wednesday, manager AJ Hinch told reporters. The 26-year-old has been out of Detroit's lineup since July 19 after being diagnosed with a right forearm strain. Rogers will likely be sidelined until partway through the 2022 season, which is unfortunate given he was having a solid season at the plate hitting .239/.306/.496 with six home runs, 17 RBI, and 17 runs scored on 27 hits. Eric Haase and Dustin Garneau will likely alternate catching duties down the stretch since the Tigers are so far out of a Wild Card spot.

Tue Aug 31 202107:48Jake Rogers May Not Play Again This Year
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (forearm) has been out since July 19 due to a right forearm strain. On Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive reported that Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was feeling "less and less optimistic" that Rogers would be able to play again this year. There's about a month to go in the season and there's no need for the Tigers to rush the 26-year-old Rogers back to the club, so it certainly seems likely that we won't see him again this year. Rogers was a solid bat for the team this year, slashing .239/.306/.496 with six home runs, 17 RBI and 17 runs over 38 games. Eric Haase is the team's primary catcher with Dustin Garneau backing him up.

HOUSTON (AP) — Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer to cap a startling six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, getting his jersey yanked off in a frenzied celebration and lifting the Houston Astros over the New York Yankees 8-7 on Sunday. The Astros had been shut out by the Yankees the previous two games, highlighted by ace Gerrit Cole’s three-hitter in a 4-0 win on Saturday night. The win came on Altuve replica jersey giveaway at Minute Maid Park — Houston fans left with a No. 27 shirt, while the All-Star second baseman exited without his. New York led 7-2 after a three-run homer by Gary Sanchez in the eighth inning. After the first two Astros reached base against Domingo Germán in the ninth, Chas McCormick hit a two-run double off Chad Green (3-5). Abraham Toro followed with an RBI double to make it 7-5, still with no outs. Pinch-hitter Jason Castro singled and one out later, Altuve launched his soaring shot to left field. Ralph Garza Jr. (1-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for... [More]

Wed Jun 23 202101:49Scherzer passes checks, Nationals stare down Phillies 3-2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Max Scherzer threw his glove and hat to the grass, then stared down Phillies manager Joe Girardi after getting checked for a third time by umpires for sticky stuff as the Washington Nationals beat Philadelphia 3-2 Tuesday night. Scherzer (6-4) looked sharp in his return to the rotation after missing a start due to a groin injury, striking out eight in five innings. Girardi apparently didn’t like what he saw. In the fourth, Scherzer threw high and inside to Alec Bohm, sending him sprawling to the ground before striking him out. Prior to the next batter, Girardi asked the umpires to check Scherzer. Scherzer already had been checked by second-base umpire Alfonso Marquez after the first and third inning. So, when he was approached for a third time, this time at Girardi’s request, Scherzer threw his glove and hat to the ground, unbuckled his belt and appeared ready to take his pants off. Yan Gomes had a pair of RBI singles for the Nationals, who have won three straight and... [More]
