Tue Feb 2017:15Dane Dunning To Start Spring Opener On Friday
Texas Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning will take the hill for the team's Cactus League opener on Friday against the Kansas City Royals, with Cody Bradford scheduled to follow him in relief. Dunning threw a career-high 172 2/3 innings in the regular season in 2023 over 35 appearances (26 starts) and went 12-7 with a career-best 3.70 ERA (4.27 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP with 55 walks and a career-high 140 strikeouts at the back end of the team's starting rotation. The 29-year-old relies on inducing weak contact and isn't going to overpower hitters, and he'll likely be moved to a long-relief role in the second half in 2024 if both Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Max Scherzer (back) are able to return from their injuries. Dunning is outside RotoBaller's rankings of the top-100 fantasy pitchers.

Thu Jan 1122:01Dane Dunning Avoids Arbitration With Rangers
Right-hander Dane Dunning avoided salary arbitration with the Texas Rangers on Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.325 million deal for the 2024 season, according to a source. Dunning gets a nice raise in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The 29-year-old had the best season of his career in 2023 in his third year with the Rangers, going 12-7 with a career-best 3.70 ERA (4.27 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP while walking 55 and striking out a career-high 140 batters in 172 2/3 innings over his 35 appearances (26 starts). He will open 2024 with a spot in Texas' starting rotation yet again after initially entering it early last year when Jacob deGrom got hurt. Dunning's fantasy ceiling will remain low this year because he relies more on inducing soft contact than creating swings and misses.

Wed Sep 27 202314:47Dane Dunning Looking To Inch Rangers Closer To Postseason Wednesday
Texas Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning will aim to get his team a step closer to playoff baseball when he gets the ball Wednesday on the road against the Los Angeles Angels. Dunning enters Wednesday's contest sporting a healthy 3.88 ERA across 24 starts and 33 appearances but it hasn't exactly been a smooth ride. His 4.44 FIP and 4.59 SIERA suggest some regression could be on the horizon while Dunning has allowed 16 runs over his last four starts spanning 21 2/3 innings of work. At the same time, he has kept his team in ball games by allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last 11 starts. Consistency has been an issue but a dynamite Rangers offense has helped steer Dunning to 11 wins on the season, matching his total from his first three seasons in the big leagues.

Mon May 29 202312:26Dane Dunning To Start Wednesday Against Tigers
Texas Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning is scheduled to make the start on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. Dunning was away from the team over the weekend for the birth of his son, but he'll return this week to start on Wednesday in a solid matchup. The 28-year-old right-hander has been outstanding for Texas so far this year, recording a 1.67 ERA (2.99 FIP), 0.98 WHIP, 10 walks and 26 strikeouts in 43 innings over 12 appearances (four starts). He's been just as good in his four starting assignments, allowing only four runs on 20 hits while walking five and fanning 15 in 22 2/3 frames. Dunning doesn't have a ton of strikeout upside, but he's worth a look as a streamer this week in a plus matchup.

Wed May 17 202300:57Dane Dunning Stellar In Tuesday Win
Texas Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning turned in another great start in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Braves. Dunning pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts. The 28-year-old has pitched well all season long and has made three consecutive strong appearances as a starter. He is now 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA, 5.54 K/9 rate, and 1.69 BB/9 rate. He should continue to see time as a starter with the Rangers dealing with a number of rotation injuries. His next appearance could be at the Pirates, which would be a decent matchup. Dunning is worth a look as a potential streamer depending on the matchup given his strong start.

Wed May 10 202311:49Dane Dunning Getting The Ball Wednesday
Texas Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against Luis Castillo and the Seattle Mariners. The 28-year-old will be making his second start of the season after replacing the injured Jacob deGrom (elbow) in the rotation. Dunning owns a 1.42 ERA but has struck out just 14 batters with six walks over 25.1 innings. Since coming over to Texas in the Lance Lynn deal, the former top prospect hasn't taken off like fantasy managers were hoping, recording a 4.22 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 20.7% strikeout rate across three seasons with the Rangers. Dunning is only a viable option in very deep and AL-only leagues considering his lackluster stuff.

Sat Sep 24 202218:53Dane Dunning Set To Undergo Hip Surgery, Out For Season
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning (hip) is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his hip and will miss the remainder of the season. The Rangers don't have a definitive timeline for Dunning's return, but hope he will be ready of the beginning of the 2023 season. The 27-year-old didn't take the step forward that some were expecting this season, pitching to a 4-8 record with a 4.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 137 K over 153 IP. He is more of a deep league streamer type than anything at this point in his career.

Sun May 8 202217:56Dane Dunning Earns Quality Start Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning took a no-decision but earned a quality start in Sunday's Game 1 2-1 loss to the Yankees. Dunning pitched 6 innings, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts. The 27-year-old has pitched well this season, compiling a 3.38 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 11 walks over six starts and 32 IP. It is unknown when his next start will be and fantasy managers should not feel comfortable sending Dunning out in tough matchups, but he is worth keeping an eye on, as he is rostered in just 10 percent of leagues at this time.

Sat May 7 202221:45Dane Dunning Will Start Sunday Vs. The Yankees
Texas Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning will start Game 1 of the team's doubleheader Sunday against the New York Yankees. The Yankees-Rangers series was postponed for a second consecutive day due to inclement weather. Dunning had his start pushed back one day. The 27-year-old owns a 3.81 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 26 innings in 2022. Despite posting a 2.02 ERA over his last two starts, Dunning is mainly an option in deep-league formats for Sunday's slate in a tough matchup against the Yankees.

Tue Sep 21 202123:44Dane Dunning Has Short Outing On Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning got the start on Tuesday, but wasn't out there on the mound for too long. He went 2 2/3 innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts in the 7-1 loss to the New York Yankees. Left-hander Kolby Allard took over for him and looked worse in this one. Dunning will carry a 4.34 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into his next matchup versus the Baltimore Orioles. It's a favorable matchup for Dunning, but he's not a reliable option.

Tue Sep 7 202110:23Dane Dunning Begins Throwing
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning was able to throw 23 pitches during a live batting practice on Monday. Dunning along with Mike Foltynewicz and Drew Anderson are working their way back after testing positive for COVID-19. It sounds like Dunning might be the closest to returning out of the trio. The hope is that Dunning will be able to pitch against the Oakland Athletics on Friday. However, he'll likely only pitch an inning or two behind right-hander Glenn Otto. It doesn't sound like there is going to be much fantasy value for Dunning down the stretch.

Mon Sep 6 202120:39Dane Dunning Throws Bullpen Monday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunningthrew a 23-pitch live bullpen session on Monday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Dunning was placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Aug. 25 after the team had a virus outbreak during a series against the Boston Red Sox. Over 22 starts, Dunning is 5-8 with a 4.31 ERA, 98 strikeouts and 36 walks across 104 1/3 innings pitched. He hasn't offered fantasy managers much during his rookie season and doesn't go very deep into games. He should be left on the waiver wire in most leagues, but fantasy managers can stream him if need be in favorable matchups.

Thu Aug 26 202108:27Dane Dunning Lands On COVID-19 Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Dane Dunning on the COVID-19 injured list on Wednesday. Fellow starting pitcher Jake Latz was called up in a corresponding move and he went on to start Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Dunning is one of multiple players on the Rangers who is in COVID-19 protocols. The team had a minor outbreak of the virus during their last series against the Boston Red Sox. It hasn't been made clear whether or not Dunning tested positive or if he was a close contact, but for now he'll be out of the rotation.

Sat Aug 21 202112:13Dane Dunning Lit Up By Red Sox
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning struggled to hold back the Boston Red Sox offense on Friday. He went 4 2/3 innings, nine hits allowed, five earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout in the 6-0 loss. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Rangers limit Dunning over the last few weeks. He has struggled to go long in games, which means there won't be much fantasy value even when he does pitch well.

Tue Aug 3 202111:01Dane Dunning Has Solid Outing Versus Angels
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning posted his second straight quality outing in a row on Monday. He went five innings, three hits allowed, one earned run, two walks, and three strikeouts in the 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The Rangers continue to limit his pitch count as he hasn't thrown over 89 pitches in any of his starts. That means, he'll likely stick in the rotation throughout the rest of the season. He'll carry 4.07 ERA, 90 strikeouts in 90 innings into his next start. He's only a low-end streaming option right now because he's not going to work late into games.

That will be a tougher matchup for Dunning, which will make him a low-end streaming option at best.
