Mon Mar 2501:02Myles Straw Clears Waivers, Sent To Triple-A Columbus
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw has cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Columbus. Straw struggled mightily at the dish last year, slashing .238/.301/.297 with one home run and 20 steals across 518 PA. He will likely be called up when an injury happens, but the speedster is unlikely to have a role big enough to warrant consideration in fantasy leagues. Will Brennan and Estevan Florial will likely benefit from the move and gain more playing time, but also do not need to be considered in fantasy.

Fri Mar 2219:53Guardians Put Myles Straw On Waivers
The Cleveland Guardians placed outfielder Myles Straw on waivers on Friday. Straw is fully expected to clear waivers and still has minor-league options remaining, so he's likely to open the 2024 season at Triple-A Columbus. It doesn't mean that we won't see the 29-year-old with the Guardians at some point this year, but he's obviously off the fantasy radar for now after hitting .238/.301/.297 with a home runs, 29 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 147 games in his second full season with the Guardians in 2023. With Straw out of the picture on the major-league roster to begin the year, Cleveland could mix and match in center field among names like Ramon Laureano, Esteven Florial and Tyler Freeman. Florial is the most intriguing player in AL-only setups.

Thu Feb 2914:39Myles Straw Out With Viral Infection
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw is not practicing on Thursday due to a viral infection. The 29-year-old is in a battle with Estevan Florial for the primary center-field role in Cleveland as he is coming off another disastrous season at the plate. Straw hit just .238 with one home run and a .598 OPS across 518 plate appearances with the Guardians a season ago, production that graded out 31% below the league average, as per his 69 wRC+. He did swipe 20 bags on the season but his power has been non-existent in his career as he has slugged just six home runs in nearly 2,000 trips to the plate. Straw's usually stellar defensive metrics also took a hit last season as he continues to remain far from the fantasy radar.

Fri Feb 2313:24Myles Straw, Esteven Florial Competing For Center Field Job
Cleveland Guardians hitting coach Chris Valaika said this week that outfielder Myles Straw is competing for the center field job this spring, and The Athletic's Jason Lloyd gets the sense that the team would love to see Estevan Florial claim the job in spring training. Ramon Laureano has plenty of experience in center field, but Florial is the one that manager Stephen Vogt called "a specimen." Florial, 26, had no logical path to playing time with the Yankees. He hit 28 home runs at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2023 but has never had more than 71 plate appearances in a big-league season. Straw offers Cleveland Gold Glove-caliber defense, but he hasn't hit much. Florial strikes out too much, but there's no debating that he offers a much higher offensive ceiling in center field than Straw does.

Mon Jul 17 202317:05Myles Straw Absent On Monday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw is absent from the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This appears to be a routine day off for the 28-year-old speedster. Straw has been struggling, slashing 234/.302/.295 with zero homers, 15 RBI and 10 steals on the season. Will Brennan will start in center field and bat seventh versus right-hander Quinn Priester on Monday.

Thu Apr 6 202309:19Myles Straw Up To Five Steals In 2023
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-4 extra-inning win over Oakland. Straw got on base three times and stole his fifth base of the season in Wednesday's win. The 28-year-old has stolen a base in three of his last four games. He is slashing .364/.517/.409 with two RBI, six runs, and five stolen bases over seven games in 2023. Straw continues to get on base and display his elite speed in 2023. Fantasy managers searching for steals should look to add Straw in all league formats.

Thu Mar 2 202311:06Myles Straw To Make Spring Debut Thursday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw (knee) is expected to make his spring training debut on Thursday. He has been held out of Cactus League games so far due to knee soreness and will hit ninth against the San Francisco Giants. Straw slashed .221/.291/.273 for the Guardians in 2022 and added some hardware after securing a Gold Glove award. He swiped 21 bags and maintained a 14.6% strikeout rate along with 65 OPS+. He isn't an offensive-minded player, but his defense and plate discipline surely make up for it. While Straw did amass a .696 OPS in 2021, he hasn't proven enough to be considered a competent hitter. The 28-year-old is hoping to be somewhat productive at the plate this season and hopes to grease the wheels in spring training.

Tue Feb 21 202319:07Myles Straw To Be Held Out With Knee Soreness
Cleveland Guardians center fielder Myles Straw (knee) will miss the first couple of Cactus League games in spring training due to soreness behind his right knee. However, manager Terry Francona said the team is just being cautious early in camp. Straw will have plenty of time to recover in time for Opening Day, but it's certainly injury to watch for a player that relies on speed as the biggest part of his game. The 28-year-old finished his first full season in Cleveland in 2022 with a .221/.291/.273 slash line with a .564 OPS, no home runs, 32 RBI, 72 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in 152 games. Straw doesn't much power to speak of, but he's stolen 51 bases in the last two seasons and will remain a strong steals target late in fantasy drafts.

Fri Sep 16 202214:36Myles Straw Picks Up Three Hits In Losing Effort
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw had a strong day at the plate on Thursday in the team's 8-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox. He went 3-for-4 with a run scored while hitting ninth in the batting order. Straw is still searching for his first home run of the season, but he's heating up at the plate in September, going 16-for-48 (.333) with two doubles, two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in 13 games played. Overall, the 27-year-old is slashing just .212/.281/.263 with 25 RBI, 60 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 476 at-bats. Straw is mostly valuable for his speed in deeper fantasy leagues.

Tue Aug 30 202214:40Myles Straw On The Bench Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Spenser Watkins. The veteran is batting .199 with a .274 on-base percentage and 15 stolen bases in 476 plate appearances this season. He'll head to the bench with Will Benson stepping in as the team's center fielder. Benson is hitting ninth against Baltimore. In 33 plate appearances with Cleveland this season, the 24-year-old is batting .133 with a .212 on-base percentage. Fantasy managers are probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options in the outfield.

Mon Jul 4 202216:32Myles Straw Scuffling At The Plate
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw was hitless in two at-bats on Monday against the Detroit Tigers. He did walk once but didn't score or provide an RBI. Straw's numbers haven't been as productive as last year through 76 games. He's slashing .193/.291/.244 with 13 stolen bases, 44 runs, and 10 RBI. Over his last 30 games, Straw's hitting a measly .132. Fantasy managers were expecting a higher batting average to go along with his stolen bases. That hasn't been the case, and it's hard to justify playing him strictly for his speed.

Tue May 31 202221:28Myles Straw Batting .231 After May
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw ended the month of May with a 1-for-5 showing in Tuesday's 8-3 win against the Kansas City Royals. He's batting just .231 on the season with no home runs and six RBI across 45 games after hitting .271 a season ago. Despite those poor numbers, Straw has nine stolen bases and 34 runs, batting almost exclusively in the leadoff spot. If fantasy managers can deal with his flaws, he'll continue to contribute in the stolen base department as one of the best sources of speed in the game.

Wed Apr 20 202214:14Myles Straw Enjoying Strong Start To 2022
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw has had a productive start to the 2022 season, batting .333 with a .455 on-base percentage and 10 runs scored in 44 plate appearances. One of the game's best stolen base threats, Straw swiped 30 bases during the 2021 campaign in 638 plate appearances and already has four this season. The outfielder has also walked more times than he's struck out, with eight walks compared to just six strikeouts so far. He won't be much of a power threat moving forward, but should continue to post quality stolen base and run scored numbers as long as he's getting on base ahead of the likes of Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez.

Sat Apr 9 202213:44Myles Straw Signs Five-Year Extension
The Cleveland Guardians and outfielder Myles Straw agreed on a five-year, $25 million contract extension on Saturday. Cleveland could potentially keep Straw in town through the end of the 2028 season if they exercise their two team options. Straw came over from the Houston Astros in an in-season trade last year and wound up hitting .285 with 13 steals in 60 games with Cleveland. The Guardians have indicated that they view Straw as a core piece of their team moving forward. Straw is the second Cleveland player to sign an extension to remain in town as Jose Ramirez was extended earlier in the week.

Thu Apr 7 202214:25Myles Straw Leading Off For Guardians
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw is starting in center field and batting leadoff on Thursday against Kansas City Royals right-hander Zack Greinke. Straw doesn't have much power -- five career home runs in four major league seasons -- but he has 46 career stolen bases in 256 games and was a nice speed target in the late middle rounds of drafts this spring. In 158 games over 638 plate appearances last year between the Houston Astros and Guardian, Straw hit .271/.349/.348 with four home runs, 48 RBI, 86 runs scored and 30 stolen bases. While his overall fantasy appeal is limited, the 27-year-old's speed makes him an asset in all fantasy leagues.

Tue Apr 5 202221:35Myles Straw Hits .297, Steals Two Bags In Spring
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw did a solid job of setting the table as the team's leadoff hitter this spring. Over 12 games, he slashed .297/.297/.351. While he didn't walk a single time, he only struck out three times total. He also stole two bases over the 12-game stretch. Straw will be the Guardians' everyday leadoff hitter to start the year. He's a career .266 hitter with 46 stolen bases over 256 games. He should give fantasy managers a solid boost in stolen bases and runs scored, but he won't provide any power whatsoever (five career home runs) and he's a question mark in the batting average department.

Cleveland Indians outfielder Myles Straw went 0-for-3 with two walks, a run scored, and three stolen bases in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Straw now has 27 stolen bases on the season and has swiped 10 bases since the beginning of August. He should be rostered down the stretch for his ability to get on base, score runs, and steal bases from atop this Tribe lineup.

Tue Sep 7 202107:50Myles Straw Records Three Hits Monday
Cleveland Indians outfielder Myles Straw went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Straw has been terrific since coming over to the Tribe at the trade deadline and is now .348 with two stolen bases over his previous 23 at-bats. Fantasy managers in need of batting average, runs, and stolen bases would be wise to add Straw for the final month of the season.

Sat Sep 4 202115:56Myles Straw Isn't In Saturday's Lineup
Cleveland Indians outfielder Myles Straw isn't in the lineup on Saturday for a matchup with the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Tanner Houck. The 26-year-old is batting .265 with a .341 on-base percentage, four home runs, and 22 stolen bases in 517 plate appearances this season. Bradley Zimmer is batting sixth and starting in Straw's place in center field. Zimmer could be a quality streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. In 266 plate appearances this season, the outfielder is batting .248 with a .353 on-base percentage, six home runs, and 12 stolen bases.

Fri Aug 27 202105:59Myles Straw Goes Yard Thursday
Cleveland Indians outfielder Myles Straw went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 10-6 win over the Texas Rangers. Straw took Rangers' starter, Jordan Lyles, deep to lead off the game and is now hitting .296 with 19 runs scored and four stolen bases in August. He should continue to lead off for the Indians and makes for a solid addition for fantasy managers in need of runs scored and stolen bases down the stretch.
