Thu Dec 14 202320:52Tyler Mahle Agrees On Two-Year Deal With Rangers
Free-agent right-hander Tyler Mahle and the Texas Rangers agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal on Thursday, according to sources. Mahle had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May and should return in 2024, and he can make another $5 million in performance bonuses based on innings pitched in 2025. The 29-year-old will most likely miss the first half of his first year in Texas. Mahle will help replace Jordan Montgomery in Texas' starting rotation eventually, as Montgomery is expected to go elsewhere in free agency. Mahle only made five starts for the Minnesota Twins last year before needing Tommy John surgery. In his last full season in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds and Twins, Mahle went 6-8 with a 4.40 ERA (3.87 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with 43 walks and 126 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings over 23 starts.

Thu May 11 202312:14Tyler Mahle Will Have Tommy John Surgery
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (elbow) will have season-ending Tommy John surgery, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. Mahle landed on the 15-day injured list on May 3 and will now miss the rest of 2023 and likely half of the 2024 campaign. It's a disappointing finish to the season for the 28-year-old right-hander, as Mahle had a 3.16 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.05 WHIP, five walks and 28 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings over his five starts for the Twins before injuring his right elbow. Fantasy managers in single-year leagues can safely drop Mahle to the waiver wire.

Sun Apr 30 202319:29Tyler Mahle To Miss At Least One Month
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (elbow) will miss at least four weeks of action, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. He has been diagnosed with a posterior impingement and a flexor pronator strain. It sounds like Mahle will sit out the next four weeks before getting checked out again towards the end of May. A tough blow with Mahle pitching well through his first five starts of the season. In the meantime, Bailey Ober is expected to remain in the rotation, while Mahle is out.

Sun Apr 30 202313:31Tyler Mahle To Miss Next Start
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (elbow) received an MRI and X-rays on his throwing arm and will miss his next start, per manager Rocco Baldelli. The manager also stated that the team doctor will review the results of Mahle's tests later on Sunday so the Twins should have a more concrete update soon. Mahle was pulled from his start on Thursday early and was later diagnosed with a right elbow impingement. Regardless of the results from his tests, fantasy managers should expect the 28-year-old right-hander to miss some time.

Fri Apr 28 202316:13Tyler Mahle Diagnosed With Elbow Impingement
Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle (elbow) met with Dr. Chris Camp on Thursday and didn't undergo any imaging. The team is calling Mahle's injury an impingement to the back of his elbow, and it's still up in the air if he'll make his next start. Mahle will take anti-inflammatory medication and see how he responds in the next 48 to 72 hours. The 28-year-old left his start early on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals, but it doesn't sound as if the injury is too serious. If he's able to make his start, fantasy managers should be very wary about using him in starting lineups. There's still a very real possibility that he'll go on the injured list, too. Mahle has a nice 3.16 ERA (4.29 FIP), 1.05 WHIP, five walks and 28 K's in 25 2/3 innings over his five starts so far in 2023.

Fri Apr 28 202308:34Twins Aren't Worried About Tyler Mahle's Injury
Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle (elbow) was removed from Thursday's contest against the Kansas City Royals after four innings of work due to posterior elbow soreness. However, it seems like the 28-year-old avoided a disaster, telling reporters post-game that "it's just inflammation" and there isn't much of a concern right now. Mahle is beginning a solid season for the Twins, posting a 3.16 ERA, 27.5% strikeout rate, 1.05 WHIP, and one win through five starts, so the club and fantasy managers will want to get him back as soon as possible. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle left Thursday's start against the Kansas City Royals after four innings of work with right posterior elbow soreness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. For the club's and fantasy managers' sake, hopefully, this is just a minor issue, and he won't have to miss any time. Stay tuned for further updates.

Fri Sep 23 202221:42Tyler Mahle Won't Pitch Again In 2022
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) will not take the mound again this season. The right-hander has been shut down since September due to lingering shoulder problems. This is a shame as Mahle only ended up making four starts as a member of the Twins roster. Although, he was solid throughout most of the season, so the hope is that it'll continue in 2023. Fantasy managers who were holding Mahle can safely drop him now.

Sun Sep 4 202213:35Tyler Mahle Heads Back To The Injured List
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old righty was just activated from the IL on Saturday and started against the White Sox before exiting after two innings with the same shoulder injury. This is clearly a recurring issue for Mahle and with just a month left in the regular season, the Twins may decide to keep him out for the remainder. The team should provide an update on him within the next week. Jovani Moran was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move.

Sun Sep 4 202201:11Tyler Mahle Takes Loss In Return
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) made his return from the injured list Saturday, and he gave up four runs in two innings. He did not strike out or walk a batter, and he was removed having thrown just 37 pitches. This was not the outing Mahle or the Twins were looking for against the division rival Chicago White Sox, and fantasy managers have every reason to be concerned as the 2022 season approaches a conclusion. Mahle has a 4.40 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 126 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings this season.

He owns a 4.17 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 126:43 K: BB across 118 2/3 innings in 2022. Mahle was on the IL for the 10-day minimum and is not expected to be on a pitch count for Saturday's start. Mon Aug 29 202211:45Tyler Mahle Could Return When Eligible
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session at Target Field on Friday and reported feeling "really good," according to manager Rocco Baldelli. Mahle will throw another bullpen session with more intensity in the coming days, and if that goes well, the Twins are aiming for Sept. 2 as a "loose target" for Mahle's return. It's the first day he's eligible to return from the injured list. The 27-year-old right-hander doesn't have any structural damage in his right arm following his early exit from his Aug. 17 start against the Kansas City Royals. Mahle previously missed three weeks in July with a right shoulder strain. In three starts with the Twins after being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds, Mahle has allowed four earned runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out 12 in 14 1/3 innings.

Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 15-20 pitch bullpen session on Friday and will use all of his pitches. Mahle has been on the injured list since last week after coming down with inflammation in his right shoulder. The veteran hurler is eligible to come off of the injured list next Friday and appears to be trending in the right direction. Thu Aug 25 202222:56Tyler Mahle Set For Bullpen Session Friday
Minnesota Twins pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) has resumed throwing and is expected to throw a bullpen session on Friday. He was placed on the 15-day IL last Saturday with right shoulder inflammation. Mahle initially felt soreness in his right shoulder in his previous start last Wednesday. The 27-year-old is eligible to return from the injured list on September 2. He owned a 4.17 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 126: 43 K: BB across 118 2/3 innings before landing on the injured list. Sat Aug 20 202218:56Tyler Mahle Headed To IL
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is headed to the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation. The Twins have been debating whether they wanted to leave Mahle on the active roster and see if he is feeling better later next week, but ended up placing him on the IL with no clear return date laid out. Mahle felt soreness in his right shoulder in his start on Wednesday, and although he told reporters he is feeling better, the Twins are opting to play it safe. This is probably the right call considering Mahle missed time earlier this season with a shoulder strain. Hopefully the 27-year-old doesn't miss much time, as he has looked sharp since the beginning of June, sporting a 3.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts over 65 IP. Fantasy managers will need a replacement for next week, and should keep an eye on Mahle's status while he recovers.

Fri Aug 19 202221:06Tyler Mahle Likely To Have Next Start Skipped Or Pushed Back

Mahle was shut down from throwing after experiencing soreness in his right shoulder during his last start, which came on Wednesday. The 27-year-old told reporters on Friday that he feels good, but the Twins will understandably be cautious with their recent trade deadline acquisition. Mahle has made 22 starts in 2022, posting a 6-7 record, 4.17 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 126 strikeouts in 118 2/3 innings of work.

Thu Aug 18 202213:27Tyler Mahle's MRI Comes Back Clean
Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle's (shoulder) MRI results came back clean on Thursday after he left his start early on Wednesday with what the team is now describing as "general soreness and fatigue" in his right shoulder. Mahle will remain day-to-day, but it still remains unknown if he'll be able to make his next scheduled start. Since being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds at this summer's trade deadline, the 27-year-old has allowed four earned runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out 12 in 14 1/3 innings over just three starts. Mahle is 6-7 with a 4.17 ERA (3.77 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP and a 126:43 K:BB in 118 2/3 innings over his 22 starts this season.

Now, the right-hander will undergo an MRI on his right shoulder. It's worth noting that this is the same shoulder that has given Mahle problems in the past. The Twins are being cautious and having Mahle undergo more testing. Fantasy managers will have to wait until some time on Thursday for more information on his status.

The team stated that he is dealing with right shoulder fatigue and that he will be further evaluated. Mahle pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings before exiting on Wednesday, allowing one walk and no hits. He was coming off a fantastic start in which he held the Los Angeles Angels to three hits and no runs over six innings. His next start is scheduled for next Tuesday against the Houston Astros, but that's certainly up in the air at this point.

Sat Aug 13 202213:46Tyler Mahle Earns First Win With Twins On Friday
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle recorded his first victory since being dealt from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline, going six shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six. The right-hander has posted a subpar 4.26 ERA, although he owns 3.40 FIP with a 25.8% strikeout rate and 1.21 WHIP over 21 starts. Mahle should improve his numbers after the move from hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark with his strong underlying numbers. Fantasy managers would be wise to add the 27-year-old if he's available on the waiver wire.
