The 33-year-old Fiers is 7-6 with a 3.48 ERA this season.Fiers was with the World Series champion Astros last year, but he was not included on any of Houston's postseason rosters. RHP Jacob Turner's contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday to give the Nationals some length in the bullpen. "We're pitching short and we don't have any length," manager Dusty Baker said. Newly-acquired relievers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle won't join the club until Tuesday in Anaheim. Turner has been out since May 20 with a hamstring strain leaving Logan Forsythe to fill in at third. Roberts said when Turner returns, he'd move Forsythe to second and have Chase Utley come off the bench as a backup.
