Sun Sep 17 202316:17Kyle Freeland Strains Oblique, Heads To Injured List
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland strained his right oblique during Saturday's game. He was placed on the 15-day IL and his season is over. Freeland was having a strong outing against the San Francisco Giants before being removed. The lefty threw three innings of one-run baseball, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out one. This ends a poor season for the 30-year-old. He winds up with a 6-14 record to go with a 5.03 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

Fri Jul 28 202319:51Kyle Freeland Reinstated From Injured List
The Colorado Rockies reinstated left-hander Kyle Freeland (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Friday and recalled right-hander Tommy Doyle from Triple-A Albuquerque. The Rockies also placed right-hander Chase Anderson (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 25) with right-shoulder inflammation. Freeland returns after a minimal stay on the IL and will make the start on Friday against the visiting Oakland Athletics in an excellent matchup for fantasy purposes. However, the 30-year-old southpaw has been pretty unreliable in fantasy with a 4.72 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and just 63 strikeouts in 103 innings over his 19 starts in 2023. Anderson has been a disaster this year in 14 outings (12 starts) with the Rockies and Rays, sporting a 6.08 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and only 44 K's in 60 2/3 innings pitched.

Thu Jul 27 202308:55Kyle Freeland Starting Friday's Game
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (shoulder) is ready to take the mound again and will do so on Friday against the Oakland Athletics, according to MLB.com. The southpaw's last start came on July 9, when he exited with right shoulder subluxation before landing on the injured list. Freeland threw a 25-pitch live bullpen on Tuesday with no issues and will skip a rehab assignment. Before the injury, he posted a 4.72 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 14.2% strikeout rate, and a 4-10 record. Those numbers are useless in pretty much every format, and fantasy managers can leave Freeland on the waiver wire, even against the lowly Athletics.

Sat Jul 22 202310:57Kyle Freeland Set For Bullpen Session On Saturday
After launching a bullpen session on Wednesday, Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (shoulder) is scheduled for another one on Saturday. The 30-year-old has been shelved by right shoulder subluxation since July 14, but it appears as though his return is near. Skipper Bud Black believes Freeland could be activated off the injured list "potentially next weekend". It sounds like Freeland may not require a rehab assignment before re-entering the rotation. Saddled with 10 losses across 19 starts this year, the southpaw's 4.72 ERA and 1.45 WHIP (103 innings) don't justify him as a great fantasy stash overall. Freeland could be an adequate streamer, though, if he does indeed return at some juncture during next weekend's three-game set with the Oakland Athletics.

Fri Jul 14 202318:45Kyle Freeland Lands On 15-Day Injured List
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 11. The left-hander suffered a right-shoulder subluxation while diving for a bunt during Sunday's game. The organization has not given a timetable for Freeland's return. Fantasy managers will have to stay tuned for another update on his status. In the meantime, right-hander Tommy Doyle and infielder/outfielder Michael Toglia have been recalled to the active roster. The team also put left-hander Ryan Rolison (undisclosed) on the 60-day injured list.

Mon Jul 10 202309:26Kyle Freeland Expected To Land On Injured List
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (shoulder) was forced to exit early during Sunday's start against the San Francisco Giants. The left-hander injured his non-throwing shoulder while diving for a ball. The organization did more testing and it revealed that Freeland suffered a dislocated right shoulder. The assumption is that Freeland is going to land on the injured list. The organization hasn't given a timetable yet, but they should in the coming days. The good news is, Freeland didn't injure his throwing shoulder, which would probably take longer to recover.

Tue May 9 202300:38Kyle Freeland Takes Tough Loss Monday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland pitched well but took the loss in Monday's 2-0 game against the Pirates. Freeland pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits (including a two-run home run) and three walks with four strikeouts. The 29-year-old has gotten off to a good start overall this season, going 3-4 with a 3.57 ERA. However, the strikeouts have not been there with a 5.96 K/9 rate and he does have the severe disadvantage of pitching his home games at Coors Field. Freeland is slated to make his next start at home against the Phillies. The Phillies have been scuffling lately offensively, so Freeland could be a decent start despite pitching at home.

Thu May 4 202309:03Kyle Freeland Aggravates Neck Injury, Expected To Make Next Start
Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland (neck) aggravated a neck injury during Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed three hits while striking out five over five scoreless innings before being replaced in the sixth inning. The southpaw tweaked his neck while lifting weights the day after his last start against the Diamondbacks. It lingered and flared up during the fifth frame of Wednesday's start. The 29-year-old is expected to make his next scheduled start on the road against the Pirates. Freeland has been solid this season, posting a (3-3) record with a 3.76 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 26:8 K: BB across 38 1/3 innings.

Fri Apr 7 202300:27Kyle Freeland Shuts Down Nationals Thursday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland pitched a gem Thursday, picking up his second win of the season in a 1-0 pitcher's duel against the Washington Nationals. Freeland allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five over 6 innings. The lefty has now thrown 12 scoreless innings to begin his 2023 campaign, results which will likely see his roster percentage soar in the coming days. Buyer beware though, as Freeland induced only four whiffs today and had a paltry 17% CSW. The ugly underlying stats combined with his home park being Coors Field makes it difficult to trust what Freeland is doing right now, but in the right matchup on the road he could be useful.

Mon Feb 13 202316:32Kyle Freeland To Pitch In World Baseball Classic
Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland has been officially named to the roster for Team USA for the upcoming 2023 World Baseball Classic. He will be replacing New York Yankees left-handed starter Nestor Cortes, who had to drop out after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The 29-year-old Freeland had a 4.53 ERA (4.21 FIP), 1.41 WHIP and weak 17.1 percent strikeout rate in 31 starts covering 174 2/3 innings for the Rockies in his sixth season with the team in 2022. Like most Rockies pitchers, Freeland was much better on the road than at hitter-friendly Coors Field last year, and that's likely to continue being the case. The low strikeout numbers make him a pitcher to avoid in most mixed leagues.

Sat Jul 30 202218:19Rockies Holding Onto Kyle Freeland, Antonio Senzatela, German Marquez,
The Colorado Rockies are reportedly set to hold onto starting pitchers Kyle Freeland, Antonio Senzatela, and German Marquez. This news comes on the heels of earlier news that the Rockies were extending closer Daniel Bard and not planning to trade first baseman C.J. Cron. The Rockies obviously think they are very close to competing and want to keep their top assets around. For Rockies fans, this news may sting a bit as just last season the Rockies kept Trevor Story around only for him to walk in free agency. Fortunately, all the players the Rockies are reportedly keeping this season are under contract at least through next year. For the three starters, this news means their fantasy value remains limited to streamer option only.

Sun May 29 202219:33Kyle Freeland Suffers Minor Injury
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (ankle) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. He landed awkwardly after throwing a pitch in the sixth inning. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so hopefully Freeland can avoid a trip to the injured list. The fact Freeland doesn't have structural damage means he should be able to make his next start. Fantasy managers will have to check back in the next few days for another update on Freeland.

As a result, he has an ugly 10.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP on the young season. We'll see if he can turn things around in his next start, which will be on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The stellar outing gives the 28-year-old left-hander a 4.50 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 97:33 K/BB ratio over 108 innings (21 starts) on the season. He'll take on the Giants at home in his next turn, which should be a difficult start for fantasy purposes.
