Tue Mar 1916:35Matt McLain, Jake Fraley Expected To Be Fine
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that second baseman Matt McLain (shoulder) and outfielder Jake Fraley (groin) should both be fine. McLain was scratched from Monday's Cactus League lineup due to left-shoulder soreness, while Fraley was removed from the game early after fouling a pitch off a sensitive area. McLain is scheduled to be back in the spring lineup on Wednesday, but the Reds may give him another day just to be safe. The 24-year-old has played in just five Cactus League games this spring due to an oblique injury that he also dealt with last year. But he should be ready for Opening Day on March 28 and is going to be the Reds' starting second baseman. Fraley has mixed-league value in the strong-side of a platoon because he mashes right-handers.

Mon Mar 1823:33Jake Fraley Leaves Monday's Game Early
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley was removed from Monday night's Cactus League game early against the San Francisco Giants after fouling a ball off what appeared to be a part of his body that is very sensitive. Fraley was probably pretty uncomfortable, but he was able to leave the field under his own power and should be fine for Opening Day on March 28. The 28-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder will continue in the strong side of a platoon against right-handed pitchers in 2024 in his third year in Cincinnati and deserves attention for outfield depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues after he hit .256/.339/.443 with career-highs in homers (15), RBI (65) and stolen bases (21) in 111 games last year. RotoBaller has Fraley ranked as the No. 50 fantasy outfielder.

Fri Mar 812:36Jake Fraley On A Heater This Spring
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is enjoying himself a fine spring to this point in Cactus League action. After a two-hit effort on Wednesday, Fraley is now 5-for-13 (.385) with three doubles, three walks, a stolen base, and three runs scored across 16 trips to the plate, good for a 1.115 OPS in the small sample. The 28-year-old showed a nice combination of power and speed in the 2023 season, slugging 15 home runs and swiping 21 bases across 111 appearances and 380 trips to the plate. ATC projects 13 more homers and 15 swipes for Fraley in the 2024 season but only in another 384 plate appearances. The lefty-swinging outfielder's career .149 average and .482 OPS off of left-handed pitching will limit his usage and puts a damper on his fantasy value.

Sun Oct 22 202313:52Jake Fraley Starts Rehab In Arizona
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) has started his rehab program at the team's facility in Arizona. The 28-year-old underwent toe surgery last week but it's not expected to impact his availability for spring training. Fraley put together a career season in Cincinnati in 2023 when he slashed .256/.339/.443 with 15 home runs, 65 RBI, and 21 stolen bases over 336 at-bats (111 games). He rarely faces left-handed pitchers (.147/.268/.235 batting line over 41 PA's in 2023), which dampens his fantasy value. He is a serviceable fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper fantasy leagues whenever he faces a righty.

Wed Oct 18 202322:32Jake Fraley Undergoes Surgery On His Toe
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) underwent surgery on Oct. 11 to fix the fracture in his left fourth toe and he's expected to be fully healed before the start of spring training next year. Fraley held off on surgery and played through a stress fracture in his toe in the final month of the regular season with the Reds fighting for playoff contention up until the last week. The 28-year-old should be ready to rock for the start of the 2024 regular season unless he has some sort of setback with his toe in the offseason. Fraley had the best season of his career in his second year in Cincinnati in 2023, hitting .256/.339/.443 with career-highs in home runs (15), doubles (18), RBI (65), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (41) in 111 games played.

Tue Sep 26 202314:30Jake Fraley Taking A Seat Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is not in the starting lineup Tuesday night versus the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Lucas Giolito. It's fairly rare to see the lefty-swinging Fraley sitting against a right-handed pitcher considering the damage he has done off of opposite-handed pitching this season. While he has logged just 41 unproductive plate appearances versus lefties, Fraley has hit .272 with 15 homers, 15 doubles, 18 stolen bases, and an .825 OPS across 335 trips to the plate off of righties. At the same time, he is also hitting just .233 with a .652 OPS and zero home runs across 49 plate appearances in the month of September.

Tue Sep 12 202314:09Jake Fraley Sitting Tuesday Versus Lefty
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is not in the starting lineup Tuesday night as the Reds take on the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Joey Wentz. Only 40 of Fraley's 352 plate appearances have come against southpaws this season while he's hitting just .147 with three doubles and three stolen bases against lefties in that time. He's been extremely productive off right-handers, however, as the lefty-swinging outfielder is hitting .282 with 15 homers, 15 doubles, 17 stolen bases, and an .860 OPS across 312 trips to the plate versus opposite-handed pitching. Spencer Steer, Harrison Bader, and TJ Friedl will man the outfield Tuesday night in Detroit.

Fri Sep 1 202312:03Jake Fraley Back From Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) from the 10-day injured list on Friday. While Fraley has returned to the Reds for a big weekend series against the division-rival Chicago Cubs, he won't be in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Friday. The 28-year-old will eventually need surgery to fix a stress fracture in his left fourth toe, but he'll play through the injury for the rest of the 2023 season. Especially now that the Reds have both Harrison Bader and Hunter Renfroe, Fraley will most likely be limited to designated-hitter duties for the final month of the season. He's been a solid power/speed asset for fantasy managers in 2023, hitting .263/.346/.467 with an .813 OPS, 15 home runs, 63 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 40 runs scored in 289 at-bats.

Thu Aug 31 202318:53Jake Fraley In Line To Return This Weekend
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) started a rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Louisville. As it appears, the 26-year-old could come off the injured list as early as Friday for the start of a crucial four-game weekend series with the Chicago Cubs. Fraley is slated to primarily operate as the team's designated hitter upon his return, but eventually work his way back into the outfield. Will Benson figures to have the most to lose in terms of playing time when that happens, but Cincinnati's depth chart is simply ravaged by injuries currently. Fraley has been a steady mixed-league fantasy contributor this season, batting .263 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, 40 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases across 289 at-bats.

Thu Aug 24 202312:28Jake Fraley Close To Rehab Games
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) has joined Triple-A Louisville for a series of workouts, and if that goes well, he is scheduled to play a pair of minor-league rehab games from Aug. 29-30 before a potential activation from the injured list. Fraley is attempting to return from a stress fracture in his left fourth toe, and if all goes well during his rehab assignment, he could return to the Reds for the start of September in a pivotal series against the Chicago Cubs. The 28-year-old is going to need offseason surgery on his toe, but he's hoping he can play through the injury the rest of the 2023 season. Fraley has been a solid source of power and speed in his second year in Cincinnati, slugging 15 home runs, driving in 63 runs and stealing 20 bases in 92 games.

Sat Aug 19 202322:11Jake Fraley Will Play Through Fractured Toe
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) will eventually need to undergo surgery on his fractured toe but will play through the injury. The doctors told him he could try to play through it and get surgery later. Fraley will play through it "because this team is special." The 28-year-old is on the injured list after fracturing his toe in early August. Fraley has already spent the 10-day minimum and is eligible to come off the injured list. He is slashing .263/.346/.467 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, 40 runs, and 20 stolen bases over 327 plate appearances in 2023. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Fraley in all league formats.

Sat Aug 19 202316:42Jake Fraley Plans To Play Through Injury
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) was recently placed on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured toe. It appears Fraley will need to undergo surgery to repair the issue, but will play through the issue for now. The doctors told Fraley he could play through the injury, so he will do that and opt for surgery after the season. The 28-year-old said he believes this team is special and he wants to contribute to the Reds playoff push. Fraley is currently on the injured list, but it sounds like he could be back soon. He could be worth stashing because he was hitting well before the injury.

Sat Aug 5 202312:13Jake Fraley Goes On Injured List With Fractured Toe
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jake Fraley (toe) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 4) on Saturday with a stress fracture in his left fourth toe and recalled outfielder T.J. Hopkins from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Fraley was unavailable on Friday against the Washington Nationals, and now we know why. And given his injury, there's a good chance he won't be ready to return when he's eligible. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter has broke out in 2023 in his second year in Cincinnati to the tune of a .263 average (76-for-289) with career-highs in homers (15), doubles (14), RBI (63), stolen bases (20) and runs scored (40) in 327 trips to the plate and 92 games. Fraley is worth stashing in fantasy leagues. In the meantime, Stuart Fairchild should benefit the most from increased playing time.

Sat Aug 5 202300:06Jake Fraley Unavailable Off Bench On Friday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley, who started Friday's game versus the Washington Nationals on the bench, was not available to play at all, per manager David Bell. The Nats were throwing southpaw Patrick Corbin for this one, but it appears the lefty-hitting Fraley was not out for matchup-related reasons. Consider the 28-year-old day-to-day, but there should be an update on his status ahead of Saturday's action. Fraley's 2022 second-half surge has carried over into 2023, as he's slashing a solid .263/.346/.467 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, and 20 stolen bases over 327 plate appearances. Fantasy managers hope to see him return soon.

Fri Jul 14 202314:49Jake Fraley Moves Up In Batting Order
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley will move up in the batting order for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Normally, Fraley bats fifth in the order versus right-handed starters. However, he'll slide up to the three-hole and serve as the designated hitter versus right-hander Corbin Burnes. Jonathan India will move down to the fifth spot for this game. It's uncertain if this is only for one game or a long term change to manager David Bell's lineup. Fraley is hitting .274/.368/.469 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 55 games this season.

Sun Jul 9 202312:50Jake Fraley, Will Benson Sitting Against Lefty
Cincinnati Reds outfielders Jake Fraley and Will Benson are not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday against a left-handed pitcher as the team faces the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers and southpaw Wade Miley. Nick Senzel is starting in right field and batting seventh, while Spencer Steer will get the start in left field and hit fifth against Miley in the first-half finale. Fraley has been a consistent contributor for the Reds so far in 2023, hitting .276 (62-for-225) with 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 16 stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 73 games, but he's gone just 3-for-30 with no homer against lefties this year. Benson is also hitting a strong .293 (34-for-116) on the year, but he's only had one hit in 10 at-bats against lefties.

Sun Jun 18 202312:24Reds Activate Jake Fraley From Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Jake Fraley (wrist) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and optioned outfielder T.J. Hopkins to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Fraley is back in left field and is hitting fifth in Sunday's lineup against right-hander Ronel Blanco and the Houston Astros. The 28-year-old is back after missing just 10 days due to a right-wrist contusion, and he should return to a regular role in Cincinnati's outfield. Before landing on the injured list, Fraley was hitting .262 (45-for-172) with eight doubles, seven home runs, 38 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 23 runs scored in 55 games played (197 plate appearances). He had gone 7-for-19 (.368) with two homers, three RBI and four steals in six games in June before his injury.

Thu Jun 15 202309:32Jake Fraley Should Be Back On Sunday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (wrist) has been on the 10-day injured list since June 10 after sustaining a right wrist contusion. However, he'll avoid surgery and expects to be back in action on Sunday for the contest against the Houston Astros, according to MLB.com. Fraley was enjoying a solid campaign before the ailment, posting a .262/.350/.430 slash line with seven homers, 23 runs, 38 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. The 28-year-old's underrated production is useful in just about every league, and fantasy owners should hold onto him during his recovery.

Sat Jun 10 202312:07Jake Fraley Goes On Injured List, TJ Friedl Activated
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jake Fraley (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 8) with a right-wrist contusion on Saturday and reinstated outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The team also recalled right-hander Kevin Herget from Triple-A Louisville and optioned right-hander Joel Kuhnel to Louisville. Fraley will leave behind a .262/.350/.430 slash line with seven homers, 38 RBI and a career-high 11 stolen bases in 55 games. Even with Friedl returning, there should be some more playing time for Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild with Fraley out. Friedl should return to a regular role after hitting a strong .326 (46-for-141) with three homers, 20 RBI and six steals before his injury.

Fri Jun 9 202314:43Jake Fraley Remains Out On Friday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This marks the third game in a row that Fraley has missed due to a wrist contusion. It sounds like a minor issue, so the organization is hopeful to avoid the injured list. In the meantime, TJ Hopkins will cover right field and bat eighth versus lefty Jordan Montgomery. The hope is that Fraley can return at some point this weekend.
