Sun Apr 1409:48Evan Phillips Records Fifth Save Saturday
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips picked up his fifth save of the season in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Padres. Phillips allowed two hits and didn't strike out a batter despite throwing 17 of his 23 pitches for strikes, but didn't give up a run on his way to recording the save. The 29-year-old has been excellent this season, posting a 1.17 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and a 7:1 K:BB over seven-and-two-thirds IP. He's just one save behind the MLB save leader Clay Holmes and the righty remains a top option at closer on one of the best teams in baseball.

Tue Apr 900:33Evan Phillips Notches Fourth Save Of Season Monday
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips picked up his fourth save of the season in Monday's 4-2 win over the Twins. Phillips entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. The 29-year-old has been excellent to start the season, converting all four save opportunities with a 1.59 ERA and an 11.52 K/9 rate. Even more encouraging, Phillips has seen the majority of save opportunities for the Dodgers. Hopefully, the team will continue to treat him as a more traditional closer to the benefit of fantasy managers.

Wed Apr 309:50Evan Phillips Up To Three Saves
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips was summoned for the final four outs of Tuesday's victory versus the San Francisco Giants. During his 1 1/3 innings, Phillips allowed one hit and struck out a pair with no walks or runs. The 29-year-old has now appeared in four games and recorded three saves without allowing a run. Not only is Phillips one of the best closers in the game, it helps that he is on one of the best teams in the league and that should allow him to have plenty of save opportunities moving forward. The righty can safely be started as one of the top closers in the game at the moment.

Sat Mar 3009:12Evan Phillips Picks Up His Second Save Friday
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips earned a save Friday in a 6-3 win over the Cardinals. The 29-year-old retired all three batters he faced, striking out one and picking up his second save of the season, the first of which came in the Seoul Series over a week ago. He's yet to allow a hit through his first two appearances and has two total Ks now. The righty was superb for the Dodgers last season and is riding some strong spring momentum into the regular season. Phillips gave up one hit in his first spring appearance, but not a single hit over his next five, ending the spring with a 0.00 ERA and 1:9 BB:K in six IP. He's a top-12 option at the position with some upside pitching for one of the best teams in baseball.

Wed Mar 2009:18Evan Phillips Records First Save Of 2024
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips recorded his first save of the 2024 campaign against the division rival San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea. Phillips worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning and recorded one strikeout. Phillips was perfect in five scoreless innings this spring and is coming off a strong 2023 season that saw him lock down 24 saves in 61 1/3 innings with 66 strikeouts. Phillips will serve as the closer for one of the best teams in baseball and should be one of the top closers taken off the board with plenty of opportunities ahead.

Thu Feb 1512:52Evan Phillips To Get "Brunt" Of Save Chances
Los Angeles Dodgers manager stopped short of naming right-hander Evan Phillips the team's closer, but he said that Phillips will get "the brunt" of the save chances in the ninth inning this year. The Dodgers have been rumored to be considering bringing back Kenley Jansen in a trade with the Boston Red Sox, but for now, they appear to be leaning with the 29-year-old Phillips as their primary closer in 2024. He deserves it after a dominant 2023 campaign, when he recorded a 1.74 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with a career-high 24 saves in 27 chances and 152 strikeouts over 134 2/3 innings for the Blue. Unless the Dodgers bring in someone else before Opening Day for the back end of their bullpen, Phillips will be a high-end closing target for fantasy managers on one of the best teams in baseball.

Wed Aug 9 202308:25Evan Phillips Earns Save No. 15 Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Evan Phillips picked up the save on Tuesday when he closed out the 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went one inning, allowed two runs on one walk and a pair of hits, but still did enough to close out the 5-4 victory. Phillips is having another strong year on the mound, pitching to a 2.72 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 29.0% strikeout rate with 15 saves across 43 innings. Fantasy owners should continue to roster the 28-year-old in all formats, as he remains the number one closing option for manager Dave Roberts out of the bullpen.

Wed Jun 28 202300:20Evan Phillips Earns One-Out Save Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips earned his 11th save of the season in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Rockies. Phillips entered the game in the bottom of the ninth up by five with two outs and the bases loaded. He made sure things stayed that way, inducing a fly-out to end the game. The Dodgers have used a number of relievers in save situations this season but Phillips has remained the main option, converting all but one of his save opportunities with a 1.97 ERA and a 10.41 K/9 rate. He is currently a must-roster in all roto leagues and is also worth a roster spot in all but shallow points leagues at this time.

Wed Jun 21 202309:15Evan Phillips Secures Tuesday's Save
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Evan Phillips closed out Tuesday's 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, going one perfect inning while striking out two to record his eighth save of the season. The outing brought his 2023 line to a 2.20 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 32.7% strikeout rate across 28.2 innings of work. Those are dominant numbers, and though the saves haven't always been there, Phillips should remain as the Dodgers number-one option for ninth-inning opportunities. The 28-year-old has value in every league and can start racking up the saves at any moment.

Mon Jun 5 202302:07Evan Phillips Takes Loss Sunday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips took his first loss of the season on Sunday, allowing the game-winning run to score in a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees. Phillips was tasked with pitching the eighth inning of a tie game in this one, but couldn't keep the Yanks at bay, allowing a walk and a double. The righty now has a still sparkling 1.99 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 22 IP. Interestingly, Phillips hasn't gotten a save since May 12, even though he had four in seven days prior to that. The Dodgers aren't afraid to use him early in games when they feel the situation calls for it. Still, Phillips appears to be their most trusted reliever and should be owned in any league where saves matter.

Mon May 8 202302:10Evan Phillips Secures Fifth Save Sunday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips picked up his fifth save of the season on Sunday, holding down a 5-2 lead to secure a win over the San Diego Padres. Phillips made quick work of the Padres in the tenth inning, setting them down in order while stranding the ghost runner on third. Phillips now has the Dodgers' last three saves and got both save chances this weekend as he appears to be the primary option out of their bullpen. He now has a 2.25 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 12 IP. He's a must-roster closer in any league where saves are valued.

Mon May 1 202309:49Evan Phillips Secures Save No. 3
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips allowed one hit while striking out one across a scoreless inning in Sunday's 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a three run-lead. The 28-year-old made quick work of the Cardinals to secure his third save of the season. Phillips has converted all three save opportunities with a 2.70 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts over 10 innings in 2023. The Dodgers continue to use a closer by committee between Brusdar Graterol and Phillips. Despite sharing save chances, Phillips should be rostered in all league formats.

Tue Apr 25 202322:56Evan Phillips Activated From Paternity List
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-hander Evan Phillips from the paternity list, recalled infielder Michael Busch from the minors and placed infielder Max Muncy and pitcher Brusdar Graterol on the paternity list on Tuesday. Phillips tossed a scoreless sixth inning while striking out a batter in his return in the 8-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Meanwhile, veteran right-hander Shelby Miller tossed a scoreless and hitless ninth inning while striking out one to pick up his first save of the season. Phillips may not be the Dodgers' exclusive closer, but he has two saves on the year and should at least command a share of the opportunities moving forward, especially with Graterol now away from the team.

Fri Apr 21 202300:18Mookie Betts Back From Paternity List, Evan Phillips On Paternity List
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated outfielder Mookie Betts from the paternity list on Thursday, although he did not get the start against the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers also recalled right-hander Andre Jackson, optioned infielder Yonny Hernandez and placed right-hander Evan Phillips on the paternity list. Betts missed the last two games, but he entered the game on Thursday at shortstop for the first time in his career and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Both Chris Taylor (side) and Miguel Rojas (hamstring) are injured, so Betts could see more time at the 6 in the near future. Luke Williams, who started at shortstop on Thursday, is the team's only other option at the position. Regardless of where Betts is playing, he should be in all starting fantasy lineups when he returns to the lineup on Friday in Chicago.

Fri Apr 7 202308:05Evan Phillips Records Another Save Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Evan Phillips notched his second save of the season on Thursday when he pitched a clean ninth inning with a strikeout to close out the 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He now has a save in back-to-back games and is pitching well thus far, allowing no runs with one strikeout and no walks across three innings. Phillips came into the season as the assumed closer, and these last two games have proved that assumption to be true. Fantasy managers need to hold on to the 28-year-old and take advantage of the save opportunities he'll receive pitching for a top team in baseball.

Wed Apr 5 202308:08Evan Phillips Earns First Save Of 2023
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips pitched a clean final two outs of Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Colorado Rockies to pick up his first save of the season. He allowed no baserunners and owns a 0.00 ERA with no strikeouts or walks across two innings of work. Coming into 2023, Phillips was one of the leading candidates to close out games. Andre Jackson notched the first save of the Dodgers season, but after the former posted a 1.14 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 33.0% strikeout rate with a pair of saves last season, he should be the number one option going forward. Phillips needs to be rostered and started in every format with the potential to provide value in four categories.

Sat Aug 20 202211:57Evan Phillips Records Second Save Friday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips earned his second save of the season Friday, setting down all three batters he faced in a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins. Phillips has been a revelation all season, with a 1.31 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 48 innings. Manager Dave Roberts has shown patience through closer Craig Kimbrel's struggles, but if a change were to be made, Phillips would be the primary candidate to be used in save situations, making him a strong speculative value in most formats.

Thu Jul 14 202209:08Evan Phillips Records His First Save On Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips closed out the team's 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday to earn his first save of the year. It was a come-from-behind victory for the Dodgers, who trailed 6-0 going into the seventh inning of the game. The team's primary closer Craig Kimbrel pitched in the eighth inning while the team was still trailing and he wound up earning the win for the game. Phillips has been one of the team's top relievers this year, compiling 11 holds and pitching to a 1.54 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP while maintaining a 5.0 K/BB ratio across 35 innings. Despite his success this year, he had failed to convert his previous two save opportunities before this one.
