Brown was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Brown ended up tossing 1.1 scoreless innings to claim the win Wednesday in the Rockies' 9-4 victory. It marked his first appearance with the team since June 16, following a lengthy DL stint due to right shoulder inflammation.

Brown (shoulder) was activated from the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Brown has returned from the disabled list, but there's not enough room in the bullpen at the moment. However, it's possible he'll return to the majors in short order with the rosters expanding come Sept. 1. Even if he does join the club, it's unlikely he'll have anything more than a middle relief role with the club.

Manager Walt Weiss said Wednesday that there's no timetable for Brown's (shoulder) return from the disabled list, the Associated Press reports.

Brown is currently on rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he's made three appearances over the last week. Per MLB rules, Brown is able to spend up to 30 days on a rehab assignment before the Rockies would be required to either activate him or take him off the assignment.

Over the last four games, Rockies relievers have surrendered 14 earned runs in 12 innings of duty.

The move coincides with fellow reliever Ken Roberts hitting the DL with elbow inflammation. Brown should pitching medium-leverage situations for the Rockies moving forward.

Brown and the Rockies' bullpen were able to cover admirably for a short outing from starter Tyler Matzek, as the Cubs mustered just one hit over the final five frames. The right-hander was one of the last relievers to claim a roster spot for the Rockies out of camp, but his strong work in 26 innings with the big club last season (2.77 ERA, 21:5 K:BB ratio) should occasionally allow him to see some high-leverage setup duty.
