CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs will have different hitting and pitching coaches for the second straight season after they announced Jim Hickey's departure Tuesday.Hickey is leaving the organization after one season as pitching coach because of personal reasons, according to the team. Hitting coach Chili Davis was fired last month after one season and replaced by Anthony Iapoce.With Hickey's help, Chicago ranked third in the majors this year with a 3.65 team ERA. The Cubs went 95-68 and lost to Colorado in the NL wild-card game."We thank Jim for his season with the Cubs and his positive impact on our pitchers," president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said in a statement. CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs have exercised their $10.5 million option on pitcher Jose Quintana.The 29-year-old left-hander was 13-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 32 starts in his first full season with the Cubs. He was acquired from the White Sox in July 2017 as part of a deal in which they sent two top prospects to their crosstown rivals: pitcher Dylan Cease and outfielder Eloy Jimenez.Quintana's deal had a $1 million buyout. It also includes an $11.5 million option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout.The Cubs also claimed left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. (AP) — Reliever Wily Peralta and the Kansas City Royals agreed to a $3.25 million, one-year contract Wednesday, ensuring one of the few bright spots in the team's shaky bullpen will be back next season.The deal includes a $2.25 million salary next year and a $7 million mutual option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout. It replaces his previous contract, which contained a $3.25 million club option for 2019 with a $25,000 buyout.Peralta also can earn a series of performance bonuses: $125,000 each for 35 and 45 games finished; $200,000 for 50 games finished; and $250,000 for reaching 30, 55, 85, 116 and 120 points with four points for each start, two for relief outings of two innings or more and one for a relief appearances of fewer than two innings.The 29-year-old right-hander made a career-high 37 appearances last season, posting a 3.67 ERA and going 14 for 14 in save chances. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Rockies acquired Drew Butera from the Kansas City Royals on Friday, giving Colorado a veteran backup catcher as they try to chase down the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.The Royals received minor league left-hander Jerry Vasto.Butera was in his fourth season with the Royals, where he served as the backup to six-time All-Star Salvador Perez. He was hitting just .188 with two homers and 18 RBIs in 52 games, but will be remembered by Kansas City fans for catching the final out of the Royals' 2015 World Series championship.Colorado began the day 1 1/2 games behind the Diamondbacks in the division race.The 26-year-old Vasto has spent most of this season at Triple-A Albuquerque, going 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 37 relief appearances.
