Thu Apr 27 202321:18Mariners Release Justus Sheffield Thursday
The Seattle Mariners released former prospect Justus Sheffield on Thursday after he was removed from the 40-man roster during the offseason. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues yet in 2023. Over 8 1/3 innings in Triple-A this year, he owns a 14.04 ERA with four strikeouts and 11 walks. After the Cleveland Guardians drafted Sheffield in the first round of the 2014 draft, the 26-year-old never put it all together and posted a 5.47 ERA across 186 career innings. This move has no relevance to fantasy baseball, and fantasy managers can probably ignore it if he latches on with another organization.

Thu Jan 19 202318:50Justus Sheffield Designated For Assignment
The Seattle Mariners designated left-hander Justus Sheffield for assignment on Thursday to make room on the 40-man roster for infielder Tommy La Stella, who was signed to a one-year deal Thursday. Sheffield has pitched in five major-league seasons (four with Seattle) and has gone 12-12 with a 5.47 ERA (4.77 FIP), 1.63 WHIP and 18.2 percent strikeout rate in 186 innings covering 48 appearances (33 starts). Last year in Seattle he had a 3.86 ERA (4.83 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, six walks and seven strikeouts in just 11 2/3 innings over six outings (one start). If Sheffield isn't claimed off waivers or traded to another team, he could return to the organization as both starting and relief depth.

Sun May 1 202219:35Justus Sheffield Heading Back To Minors
Seattle Mariners pitcher Justus Sheffield has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. They need to shorten their roster, so it seems that Sheffield is the odd man out. He was excellent out of the bullpen for the Mariners. He threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings during his time at the big leagues this season. Although, the Mariners are likely sending him to the minors, so he can stretch out as a starting pitcher. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Sheffield to remain in the minors for too long.

Thu Sep 2 202109:27Justus Sheffield Activated, Earns Win In Relief
Seattle Mariners pitcher Justus Sheffield (forearm) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. He went on to appear in the team's game against the Houston Astros on Wednesday, making his first relief outing of the year. He pitched a scoreless sixth inning, allowing one hit and no walks without striking anyone out. He also earned the win, improving his record to 6-8 on the year. Sheffield was sidelined for nearly two months due to a left forearm strain. It's been a rough year for him as he's posted a 6.39 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP over 16 games (15 starts). It's unclear at this point if he'll remain in the bullpen or join the rotation again. Either way, he can be left on waivers in all fantasy leagues.

Mon Aug 16 202112:13Justus Sheffield Crushed In Rehab Outing
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Justus Sheffield (oblique) struggled heavily during his rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. He lasted an inning 1/3 while allowing four runs and walking five batters. Sheffield does have the ability to get MLB hitters out, but this was just a bad outing. Clearly, he needs more time in the minors before he's ready to return to Seattle. The 25-year-old has been out since the beginning of July with a Grade 2 oblique strain. He wasn't reliable when healthy, so Sheffield can remain on the waiver wire.

Tue Aug 10 202119:58Justus Sheffield Will Go On Rehab Assignment Soon
Seattle Mariners pitcher Justus Sheffield (forearm) threw a 35-pitch simulated game on Tuesday, and will go on a rehab assignment this weekend, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Sheffield has been sidelined since the beginning of July with a left flexor strain, but prior to then he had gone 5-8 with a 6.48 ERA, 1.778 WHIP and 16.9 percent strikeout rate over 73 2/3 innings of work. There really isn't a ton of upside with Sheffield currently, so even when healthy he can be left on the waiver wire in the majority of formats.

Thu Aug 5 202121:47Justus Sheffield Set For Rehab Outing Friday
Seattle Mariners pitcher Justus Sheffield (forearm) will begin his first rehab assignment Friday with High-A Everett. He's been sidelined since July 7 with a left flexor strain. The 25-year-old continued to make progress and threw a successful bullpen session on Wednesday. Sheffield will most likely need a few rehab outings and is targeting an late-August return. The Mariners right-hander has struggled this season, owning a (5-8) record along with a 6.48 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, and a 59:35 K: BB across 73 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers can leave Sheffield on the waiver wire in most league formats.
