Tue Apr 921:11Edward Olivares Goes Yard Twice
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Edward Olivares went yard twice in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the visiting Detroit Tigers, belting his first home runs since Opening Day. Olivares first took Tigers right-hander Casey Mize deep to left center in the second inning to tie the game at one run apiece, later tagging lefty Tyler Holton for another big fly to deep left center during the sixth frame for what was thought to be an insurance run before closer David Bednar blew the save. The Pirates acquired the 28-year-old Venezuelan right fielder this past offseason as outfield depth and a bench bat against left-handed pitching, but he's pushing for more playing time courtesy of .321 batting average (9-for-28) and 1.046 OPS with three long balls, seven RBI, and seven runs scored over his first 12 games. Olivares is worth consideration for fantasy managers in NL-only or deep mixed leagues to see if he can carve out a more consistent role in Pittsburgh.

Fri Dec 15 202321:33Edward Olivares Being Traded To Pirates
Outfielder Edward Olivares has been traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Olivares will be 28 in March and just received his first extended look in the majors this season. Over 107 games, he produced a 109 OPS+, indicating his offensive output was 9 percent better than the league average. The Pirates have two spots in the outfield taken by Jack Suwinski and Bryan Reynolds but don't necessarily have a full-time starter for the last spot. Over a 162-game average, Olivares has 17 home runs and 11 stolen bases, hitting .261 with a 101 OPS+. That production should lead fantasy managers to draft him in deeper or NL-only leagues if he can win a starting spot out of Spring Training.

Tue Jul 18 202319:25Edward Olivares Reinstated From Injured List
The Kansas City Royals reinstated outfielder Edward Olivares (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder/outfielder Samad Taylor to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Olivares is back with the Royals for the first time since July 7 when he strained his left oblique. He's right back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh in the lineup. The 27-year-old should see semi-regular playing time for the lowly Royals now that he's back between DH duties and left field. He's returning to a .242/.296/.410 slash line with six home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 67 games.

Mon Jul 17 202319:28Edward Olivares Likely To Return This Week
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares (oblique) is likely to return from the 10-day injured list at some point this week. Olivares can come off the injured list as early as Tuesday after missing a good chunk of the season so far with a left-oblique strain. The 27-year-old Venezuelan will return to a .242/.296/.410 slash line with a career-high six home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 67 games over his 247 plate appearances. For a rebuilding Royals club, Olivares should see plenty of playing time, making him worth a pickup in AL-only leagues if he's available on the waiver wire.

Sun Jul 9 202312:31Edward Olivares Placed On 10-Day Injured List
The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Edward Olivares (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday (retroactive to July 8) with a mild left-oblique strain. In corresponding moves, the Royals also reinstated left-hander Ryan Yarbrough from the injured list, recalled infielder/outfielder Samad Taylor from Triple-A Omaha and designated left-hander Amir Garrett for assignment. With Olivares' injury being mild, there's a chance he'll be able to return early in the second half of the season when eligible on July 18. The 27-year-old finishes the first half of the 2023 season with a .242/.296/.410 slash line with six home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 67 games played.

Sat May 13 202318:15Edward Olivares Getting A Rest Saturday
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares isn't in the lineup for Saturday's contest against Adrian Houser and the Milwaukee Brewers. The 27-year-old has given mixed results through 31 games, batting .239 with three homers but has added 17 runs, nine RBI, and three stolen bases. Nate Eaton is taking his spot in the outfield and batting eighth. The second-year player has horrendous numbers over 17 games, slashing .029/.056/.029 with two steals and can be ignored in all leagues and formats right now, even as a streaming option.

Tue Apr 4 202314:54Edward Olivares Hitting Second Tuesday
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares is starting Tuesday's game and hitting out of the two-hole as he takes on the Toronto Blue Jays and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. Tuesday marks the third start of the season for Olivares but the first out of the two-spot, as he has hit sixth and ninth in his first two games of the season. This is perhaps a sign that he will be moved up in the order against left-handed pitching despite the fact the righty swinging 27-year-old has fared much better against same-handed pitching to this point in his career. Olivares is 2-for-6 with a home run and two RBI across seven trips to the plate on the young season.

Sat Sep 17 202213:41Edward Olivares Activated And Starting On Saturday
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares (quad) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Saturday and is starting against the Boston Red Sox. The 26-year-old outfielder was out for two months with a left quad strain but he's back with the Royals on Saturday and batting sixth against Rich Hill. Olivares is slashing .303/.358/.434 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases across 99 at-bats this season with Kansas City and should see everyday at-bats for the remainder of the regular season. Nick Pratto was optioned to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Fri Jul 15 202200:52Edward Olivares Reaches Four Times Thursday
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares led off on Thursday in Toronto, and he did his job, reaching base in all four plate appearances. He was 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI before being lifted for a pinch runner. Olivares doesn't offer a huge amount of power or speed, with just three homers and two steals on the year, but he's slashed .412/.500/.412 over his last seven games and could make an intriguing short-term pickup, at least for the next few days while the Royals have lost so many unvaccinated players for the series in Toronto and playing time will be readily available.

Mon May 9 202209:48Edward Olivares Lands On Injured List With Quad Strain
The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Edward Olivares (quad) on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 26-year-old is dealing with a right quad strain. Catcher Sebastian Rivero was recalled by the Royals in a corresponding move. The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Olivares, who had been seeing a lot of time at the leadoff spot for the team and performing well. He extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 1-for-2 effort on Sunday. It's unclear how severe the injury is at this point. Michael A. Taylor stands to see increased playing time with Olivares out and Bobby Witt Jr. is likely to prevail as the team's primary leadoff hitter for now.

Fri May 6 202214:49Edward Olivares In The Leadoff Spot Again
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff again on Friday against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles. With Whit Merrifield moving to second base, Olivares has been starting regularly in right field, and this will be his fourth straight game in the leadoff spot for KC. Olivares has gone 7-for-14 with three doubles, one RBI and one run scored in that spot in the last four games, and he's now hitting a strong .364/.417/.485 with no home runs, two RBI, two stolen bases and 12 runs scored in his first 36 plate appearances of the season. As long as the 26-year-old continues to play every day, he'll be worth rostering in deep mixed leagues as outfield depth.

Thu Aug 5 202109:54Edward Olivares Hits A Solo Home Run On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals outfielder Edward Olivares went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the team's 9-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The home run was his third of the year and his second over his last three games. Olivares has fluctuated between Triple-A and the majors a few times this year, but he should be up with the Royals for good now that Jorge Soler has found a new home. He's off to a hot start to August, going 4-for-11 with the aforementioned two home runs as well as a stolen base through three games. He's worth keeping an eye on, but as long as he remains buried in the Royals lineup, there's no need to add him in any fantasy league.

Sat Jul 31 202114:12Royals Recall Edward Olivares From Triple-A
The Kansas City Royals recalled outfielder Edward Olivares on Saturday. Infielder Lucius Fox is being optioned to the team's taxi squad in a corresponding move. Olivares has had multiple stints in the majors so far this year. He's played in a total of 11 games for the Royals this year and has slashed .242/.265/.333 with one home run and one stolen base. The 25-year-old Olivares will likely make a few starts per week while he is up. He'll be in the mix to help fill-in for Jorge Soler, who was traded to the Atlanta Braves prior to this week's trade deadline.
