Thu Feb 1516:28Isiah Kiner-Falefa The Favorite For Third Base?
The Toronto Star's Gregor Chisholm writes that Toronto Blue Jays infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa appears to be the favorite to get the bulk of the reps at third base after the team signed him to a two-year, $15 million this offseason. Veteran Justin Turner will also get some starts there, too, but most of his at-bats figure to come at designated hitter. Cavan Biggio and Santiago Espinal could factor in at the hot corner as well, but they'll also be in play at second base, along with Davis Schneider. But unless the Jays re-sign Matt Chapman, Kiner-Falefa's position will likely be at third. The 28-year-old is mostly helpful for his positional versatility, but his bat hasn't really impressed in his time in the majors. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will merely hope to take advantage of his positional eligibility and his speed in a good lineup, but he's going to need to produce to stay on the field.

Wed Dec 27 202315:00Blue Jays Grab Isiah Kiner-Falefa On Two-Year Deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa to a two-year, $15 million contract with $1 million of performance bonuses included. The veteran spent parts of four seasons with the Texas Rangers to begin his career before spending the last two seasons with the New York Yankees. Most recently, the 28-year-old hit .242 with six home runs and 14 stolen bases across 115 appearances with the Yankees in the 2023 season. While his bat has graded well below the league average, as per his career 81 wRC+, Kiner-Falefa's value comes on the defensive side of the ball. He spent time at all three outfield positions in the 2023 season while also playing 240 1/3 innings at third base and a combined nine frames between second and shortstop.

Tue Dec 5 202313:37Yankees Among A Dozen Teams Interested In Isiah Kiner-Falefa
Free-agent utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa is drawing interest from around 12 teams, including the New York Yankees. Interested teams are considering him for a super-utility role or at shortstop/third base. Kiner-Falefa is mostly useful for his defensive versatility and speed in fantasy leagues. He slashed .242/.306/.340 with six home runs, 12 doubles, three triples, 37 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 39 runs scored in 113 games in his second year for the Yankees in 2023. The 28-year-old has very little power to speak of, though, and his speed on the basepaths is mitigated without a regular starting role. IKF's fantasy value for the upcoming season will depend on where he lands, but he's likely to only be useful as a bench option in deep-mixed or single-league formats.

Wed May 17 202302:22Isiah Kiner-Falefa Cranks First Home Run Of The Year
New York Yankees outfielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored in a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has been buried on New York's depth chart despite positional versatility and a myriad of injuries to their roster over the course of the season. He was certainly the biggest loser of top-prospect Anthony Volpe's call-up and preservation of his roster spot to this point. Harrison Bader's recent activation and strong play may also restrict whatever hope Kiner-Falefa had of seeing consistent playing time in center field. Despite Tuesday's display, consider it just a blip on the radar. Kiner-Falefa has a scant .531 OPS with just three RBI across 80 at-bats, so continue to ignore him on waiver wires.

Tue Apr 4 202315:41Isiah Kiner-Falefa Starting In Center Field Again
New York Yankees utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against left-hander Matt Strahm and the Philadelphia Phillies. Kiner-Falefa is starting in center field again and hitting seventh in the batting order. The 28-year-old has started in center field in two of the last three games. Aaron Hicks is in left field and Giancarlo Stanton is in right, with Aaron Judge serving as the designated hitter. IKF has played in just two games to begin the year, and he's gone 0-for-4 at the plate. He'll be looking for his first knock of the 2023 campaign and probably won't be in too many DFS lineups on Tuesday against the Phillies.

Wed Mar 15 202300:33Isiah Kiner-Falefa To Play Center Field Over Weekend
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that he plans to start utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa in center field this upcoming weekend. The 27-year-old made 131 starts at shortstop and four at third base last season while slashing .261/.314/.327 with four home runs, 48 RBI, and 22 stolen bases. IKF entered this spring competing with prospects Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe for the starting role at shortstop. The Yankees are currently dealing with a number of injuries and Falefa has shown the ability to play a number of positions over the course of his career. While multi-position eligibility is a plus, IKF really only contributes steals and average to fantasy managers, and even that contribution could be limited depending on his playing time.

Thu Mar 2 202321:00Isiah Kiner-Falefa Could Have Super-Utility Role
New York Yankees infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa could end up serving in a super-utility role, according to manager Aaron Boone. This would only happen if Kiner-Falefa doesn't win the starting shortstop spot. However, it sounds like Oswald Peraza could very well win the job over him. If he does, Kiner-Falefa would be asked to play both infield and outfield for the Yankees this upcoming season. He hit .261/.314/.327 with four home runs and 22 steals in 142 games last season. A majority of his contributions come from his defense and speed, which doesn't make him an ideal fantasy option. He could be worth a look because of his speed. This super-utility role means he'll likely get significant at-bats in 2023.

Fri Nov 18 202220:46Isiah Kiner-Falefa Returning To Yankees
The New York Yankees have reached an agreement with shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa that will bring him back to the Bronx for the 2023 season. The contract will be for one year and $6 million dollars. Kiner-Falefa endured a tumultuous year with the Yankees after coming over from the Texas Rangers last offseason, slashing .261/.314/.327 with four home runs and 22 steals in 531 plate appearances. Most of Kiner-Falefa's contributions come from speed and defense, and there's no guarantee that he will see nearly as much playing time this upcoming season as last.

Wed Oct 19 202218:00Isiah Kiner-Falefa Back At Shortstop In Game 1 Of ACLS
New York Yankees infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Wednesday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Justin Verlander. Kiner-Falefa was on the bench for the final two games of the AL Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians in favor of Oswaldo Cabrera, but he's back in there to begin the ALCS. The 27-year-old hasn't been bad in his first four career playoff games for the Yanks, going 3-for-11 (.273) with a run scored, a walk, a strikeout and a stolen base.

Mon Oct 17 202215:13Isiah Kiner-Falefa Not In Game 5 Starting Lineup
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa isn't in the team's starting lineup for the fifth game of an American League Division Series matchup with the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. The infielder hit .261 with a .314 on-base percentage, four home runs, and 22 stolen bases in 531 plate appearances during the regular season. He's collected three hits, a walk, and a stolen base in 12 postseason plate appearances so far this year. Instead, Oswaldo Cabrera will get the start at shortstop and bat sixth against the Guardians and right-hander Aaron Civale.

Sun Oct 16 202218:23Isiah Kiner-Falefa Heads To The Bench
New York Yankees infielder/outfielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa will head to the bench for Sunday's Game 4 against the Cleveland Guardians. The Yankees have decided to move Kiner-Falefa to the bench after a rough start defensively in Game 3. To be fair, the Yankees can't afford to lose this game, so they want to make sure nothing goes wrong. Kiner-Falefa wasn't bringing enough to the plate to allow him to play bad defense and stay in the lineup. Aaron Hicks will cover left field, while Oswaldo Cabrera plays shortstop and bats sixth against right-hander Cal Quantrill on Sunday.

Thu Aug 18 202216:20Isiah Kiner-Falefa Benched On Thursday
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa isn't in the starting lineup for Thursday's contest against the Toronto Blue Jays. The absence is not injury related. Rather, Kiner-Falefa gets a day off after starting nine consecutive games and producing subpar numbers during that span. Rookie infielder Oswaldo Cabrera, who made his MLB debut at third base on Wednesday, will shift to shortstop and bat seventh on Thursday. Kiner-Falefa is slashing .267/.316/.319 with 36 RBI, 23 walks, 55 strikeouts, and 15 stolen bases with his new club in 2022.

Wed Jun 22 202216:34Isiah Kiner-Falefa Back In The Lineup On Wednesday
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa (hamstring) is set to return to action for Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He will be batting seventh in the lineup for the contest. IKF was sidelined for each of the team's last three games due to left hamstring soreness. He's been giving the team a solid boost offensively this month. Over 15 games in June, he's slashed .315/.362/.407 with five doubles, five stolen bases, six RBI and nine runs.

Tue Jun 21 202216:08Isiah Kiner-Falefa Remains Out On Tuesday
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa (hamstring) is being held out of the starting lineup once again on Tuesday as the team takes on left-hander Jalen Beeks and the Tampa Bay Rays. Gleyber Torres will be covering shortstop for the game. IKF is dealing with left hamstring soreness and this will be his third straight missed games. The 27-year-old is currently in the midst of his most productive offensive month of the year, so hopefully he can return to action soon. Across 15 June games, he's slashed .315/.362/.407 with five stolen bases, six RBI and nine runs.

Mon Jun 20 202209:04Isiah Kiner-Falefa Dealing With Hamstring Soreness
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa (hamstring) was held out of action for Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He is dealing with hamstring soreness. Marwin Gonzalez covered shortstop for the game. If IKF had been healthy, he likely would have been utilized as a pinch-runner for Giancarlo Stanton in the ninth inning. It doesn't sound like anything major for Kiner-Falefa, who should be considered day-to-day. The 27-year-old has slashed .273/.320/.325 with 10 stolen bases, 18 RBI and 34 runs over 61 games this year.

Mon May 23 202222:38Isiah Kiner-Falefa Continues To Slump Monday
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been in a rut recently, which didn't change on Monday when he took an 0-for-4 while striking out once. Over his last 15 games, the former catcher is batting .204. The slump has brought down his season slash line to .256/.308/.302, and he has no home runs with 20 runs and 11 RBI across 39 games. Kiner-Falefa is still running, stealing five bases in six attempts, but that isn't enough to negate his mediocre batting average and power deficiency. Fantasy managers should only roster him in deep leagues if they are looking to improve their stolen base numbers.

Mon Apr 25 202222:41Isiah Kiner-Falefa Finding Groove With Yankees
New York Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa has enjoyed a solid start to his career in the Bronx, posting a .300/.333/.713 line and two steals across 15 games. The 27-year-old has also scored eight runs and five RBI hitting primarily in the bottom-third of the powerful and mercurial Yankee lineup. Kiner-Falefa makes for an intriguing batting average stabilizer capable of double-digit steals, especially in deeper leagues with a middle infielder slot.

Sun Mar 13 202222:48Yankees Trading For Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa
The New York Yankees are acquiring third baseman Josh Donaldson, shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa and catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Minnesota Twins on Sunday night in exchange for catcher Gary Sanchez and infielder Gio Urshela, according to a source. Donaldson will become the Yankees starting third baseman in 2022 after slashing .247/.352/.475 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI in 543 plate appearances over 135 games. The three-time All-Star has concerning injury history and is 36 years old, but he's heading to a much better lineup and hitting environment in the Bronx. Kiner-Falefa was just acquired from the Texas Rangers earlier in the week, but he'll now move to the Yankees, where he'll presumably serve as a utility infielder. IKF has some speed to spare, but unless he's playing every day, he won't have much usefulness in mixed leagues.

Sat Mar 12 202211:36Twins Trading For Isiah Kiner-Falefa
The Minnesota Twins agreed to acquire Texas Rangers shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa on Saturday, according to sources familiar with the situation. MLB Network's Jon Heyman is reporting that the Rangers are also sending an unnamed prospect to the Twins in exchange for catcher Mitch Garver. Kiner-Falefa was set to open the 2022 season as the Rangers third baseman, but now he'll head to Minnesota, where he'll be replacing Andrelton Simmons, who signed with the Chicago Cubs on Friday. The 26-year-old is mostly exciting for his speed in fantasy leagues (career-high 20 thefts in 2021), but he hit an unexciting .271/.312/.357 with eight home runs and 53 RBI in 677 plate appearances. The move to Minnesota is also a lineup downgrade for Kiner-Falefa.

Sat Feb 19 202218:59Isiah Kiner-Falefa Likely To Start Everyday At Third Base
Texas Rangers infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa is expected to open the season as the starting third baseman. Over the offseason, the Rangers overhauled their infield by adding Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. That being said, Kiner-Falefa was expected to compete for the starting third base job. However, top prospect Josh Jung (shoulder) is going to miss multiple weeks, which means Kiner-Falefa will begin the season as the starter. Last season, Kiner-Falefa slashed .271/.312/.357 with eight home runs, 53 RBI, and a career-high 20 stolen bases. His fantasy value is on the rise after last season and he should continue to gain value, assuming he remains the starter at third base.
