Wed Jan 1001:02Chris Flexen Expected To Be In White Sox Rotation
Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Tuesday that newly-signed pitcher Chris Flexen is expected to be part of the team's starting rotation and provide a starter's workload in 2024, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The 29-year-old has served as both a starter and a bulk reliever throughout his career, functioning as both in 2023 with the Mariners and Rockies. While Flexen has produced serviceable ERA marks at times in his career, he offers little strikeout upside and pitches to contact, resulting in high WHIP marks. Flexen went 2-8 with a 6.86 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 15.9% strikeout rate in 29 appearances (16 starts) and 102 1/3 innings pitched in 2023. While he should be able to provide innings for the White Sox, fantasy managers may not want to turn to him for value to their teams.

Fri Dec 29 202319:11Chris Flexen In Agreement With White Sox
Free-agent right-hander Chris Flexen is in agreement on a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Chicago White Sox. Flexen will have a chance to pitch out of the rotation for Chicago. He was ineffective last year, making 16 starts between Colorado and Seattle. The 29-year-old pitched to a 68 ERA+, 32 percent worse than league average. Flexen was running a WHIP near 2.00 for the Mariners before being traded to and subsequently released by the Mets. He then moved on to Colorado and pitched to a 5.92 FIP. It's been a few seasons since he was an above-average pitcher. Even though he had an ERA of 3.73 in 2022, his ERA+ was 99 and his FIP registered at 4.49. It wouldn't be surprising if Flexen didn't make Chicago's rotation at all out of spring training.

Sat Jul 29 202319:05Chris Flexen To Start On Saturday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chris Flexen has been recalled to take the mound against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The right-hander looked strong during his two starts in Triple-A Albuquerque. He signed with the Rockies a few weeks ago after being released by the Seattle Mariners. Flexen struggled during his four starts with Seattle, but has a favorable matchup on Saturday. Despite that, Flexen won't be a recommended streaming option in Coors Field for Saturday's slate.

Mon Jul 24 202300:50Chris Flexen Could Join Rockies Soon
Colorado Rockies right-handed pitcher Chris Flexen had a strong start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday and could be an option for the Rockies as soon as this week. Flexen threw five shutout innings tonight, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six. The Rockies signed Flexen last Thursday after he was released by the Seattle Mariners earlier in the year. He had a dismal 7.71 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and 29:19 K:BB ratio in 42 IP with the M's. Although he has had decent seasons in the past, pitching in Coors Field will take away any long-term fantasy appeal Flexen had. He could be a streaming option on the road depending on how he looks, but for now it is better to steer clear.

Thu Jul 13 202312:25Rockies Sign Chris Flexen To Minor-League Deal
The Colorado Rockies signed free-agent right-hander Chris Flexen to a minor-league deal on Thursday. He will be reporting to Triple-A Albuquerque. Flexen began the year with the Seattle Mariners, but he was cut after posting a 7.71 ERA (6.66 FIP), 1.86 WHIP, 19 walks and 29 strikeouts in 42 innings over 17 appearances (four starts). In six major-league seasons, Flexen has appeared in 104 games and made 68 starts, so he'll provide the Rockies with starting depth in the minors to begin the second half of the season. As a swingman for the Mariners in 2021 and 2022, the 29-year-old was much better, posting a 3.66 ERA (4.15 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, two saves and 220 strikeouts in 317 1/3 innings over 64 appearances (53 starts).

Mon Jul 3 202314:53Mets Acquire Chris Flexen, Trevor Gott From Mariners
The New York Mets acquired right-handers Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott from the Seattle Mariners on Monday in exchange for left-hander Zach Muckenhirn, according to sources. Flexen was originally drafted by the Mets and spent the first three seasons of his big-league career with them from 2017-19. The M's designated him for assignment after he posted a rough 7.71 ERA (6.67 FIP) and 1.86 WHIP in 17 appearances (four starts) for them earlier this year. The 29-year-old will likely work in relief in his return to Queens, but he could also be a rotation option down the line. Gott, 30, will provide bullpen relief for the Mets after posting a 4.03 ERA (3.01 FIP), 1.41 WHIP, eight walks and 32 strikeouts in 29 relief innings for Seattle this year. Neither Flexen nor Gott are fantasy options.

Tue Jun 27 202317:28Chris Flexen Designated For Assignment
The Seattle Mariners designated right-hander Chris Flexen for assignment on Tuesday and reinstated right-hander Trevor Gott (back) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Flexen gets the boot off the roster after 36 runs on 59 hits (11 homers surrendered) while walking 19 and striking out 29 in 42 innings of work over 17 appearances (four starts) for the M's in 2023. The 28-year-old swingman just wasn't the same pitcher that posted a 3.66 ERA and 1.29 WHIP for Seattle in a versatile role the previous two seasons for the team. Since the start of June, Flexen had surrendered 13 earned runs in just 8 2/3 innings, so it was time for the M's to go in another direction in their bullpen.

Sat Apr 29 202314:00Chris Flexen Removed From Starting Rotation
Seattle Mariners right-handed pitcher Chris Flexen has been removed from the starting rotation. The 28-year-old hurler has been nothing short of a disaster for Seattle after he took the injured Robbie Ray's place in the starting rotation. He posted a miserable 8.86 ERA, 1.97 WHIP, and 14:11 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings (five games, four starts) on the year. His slider, which was an effective pitch last season, has not been working, and neither has his cutter so the M's want him to work things out in the bullpen. Regardless of his role in real life, he shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters.

Sun Apr 2 202313:20Chris Flexen To Start On Wednesday Against Angels
Seattle Mariners right-handed pitcher Chris Flexen is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. He will be taking the spot of Robbie Ray (elbow) who was placed on the IL with a Grade 1 flexor strain. Flexen put up a 3.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 95:51 K/BB ratio across 137 2/3 innings (22 starts, 33 appearances) last season with the M's. He's a solid bridge option for Seattle but offers no upside as a fantasy option. He can be left on the waiver wire.

Wed Nov 16 202200:39Mariners Willing To Trade Chris Flexen, Marco Gonzales
MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported Tuesday that the Seattle Mariners would be willing to trade either starting pitcher Chris Flexen or Marco Gonzales. Flexen is in the final year of his contract and Gonzales is under contract for another two seasons with a $15 million club option for 2025. Both were important pieces in the Mariners' rotation in 2022, with Flexen compiling a 3.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 16.1% strikeout rate over 137 2/3 innings and Gonzales posting a 4.13 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 13.2% strikeout rate over 183 IP. Regardless of where they land, both pitchers offer minimal fantasy upside due to high WHIP's and low strikeout rates.

Sun Oct 3 202101:27Chris Flexen Allows One Run Against Angels Saturday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen delivered in a high-pressure situation Saturday, allowing just one run on six hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings to help extend Seattle's relevance to Game 162. He struck out one batter and took a no-decision in the 6-4 victory. Flexen has been remarkably consistent all year, and he's now pitched at least five innings in 23 consecutive starts. His strikeout rate is low at 125 in 179 2/3 innings pitched, but he's a reliable innings-eater worthy of fantasy rosters in the right formats.

Tue Sep 28 202111:38Chris Flexen Wins 14th Game
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen won his 14th game of the season in Monday's blowout win over the Oakland Athletics, throwing five innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Flexen got a tough start in this one, allowing a three-run home run to Seth Brown in the first inning before settling down. Flexen's now tied for fifth in wins in the major leagues, and he has returned an excellent value for fantasy managers with his 3.67 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 30 starts.

Thu Sep 23 202112:10Chris Flexen Earns 13th Win Wednesday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen earned his 13th win of the season Wednesday night, going seven innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters against the Oakland Athletics in a 4-1 victory. Flexen has a 2.93 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 43 innings over his last seven starts, and he's now made six starts this year with at least seven innings and one run or fewer allowed. He doesn't strike out many, with 118 in 169 1/3 innings, but he's been a stabilizing force on fantasy rosters.

Sat Sep 18 202100:18Chris Flexen Picks Up 12th Win
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen picked up his 12th win of the season against the Kansas City Royals Friday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three batters and came one out short of a quality start. Flexen has now pitched at least five innings in nine straight starts, allowing more than three earned runs just once in that span. He isn't going to post gaudy strikeout numbers, but he's an extremely reliable floor option to stabilize a fantasy rotation.

Sun Sep 12 202100:53Chris Flexen Allows Five Runs Saturday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen endured a rare rough outing Saturday, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks in five innings to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He struck out four batters and took the loss, dropping his record to 11-6. Entering this contest, Flexen had posted seven straight starts with three runs allowed or less, making this stinker against a weak opponent even more surprising. Flexen should still be a solid fantasy option going forward with his 3.73 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 107 strikeouts in 156 2/3 innings.

Tue Aug 31 202113:29Chris Flexen Grinds Into Sixth Inning
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen didn't have his best stuff against the Houston Astros Monday, but he still found a way to make it 5 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He did not factor into the decision. Flexen has become a very consistent starter for the Mariners, giving him equity in fantasy despite his lack of strikeouts. He now has an 11-5 record with a 3.52 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 99 strikeouts in 145 2/3 innings.

Tue Aug 24 202123:48Chris Flexen Earns 11th Win
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen earned his 11th win of the season in a 5-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics Tuesday. Flexen allowed one run on six hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five batters. Flexen now has four quality starts in five August outings and has easily been the most consistent Seattle starter this season. With a 3.54 ERA and 1.24 WHIP on the year, he's worthy of a roster spot in most formats despite only having 95 strikeouts in 140 innings.

Fri Aug 20 202112:00Chris Flexen Throws Gem Against Rangers
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen had another outstanding start Wednesday night, throwing seven strong innings against the Texas Rangers. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts. He left in position for a win before a bullpen meltdown in the ninth left him with a no-decision. Flexen has been very effective and consistent in terms of run prevention all season, with a very solid 3.65 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. The lack of strikeouts could hold him back, but he fits into a familiar Kyle Hendricks-like mold where he will hold fantasy value regardless.

Sat Aug 14 202111:33Chris Flexen Exits After Six Innings With Quality Start
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen (hamstring) was removed after just 74 pitches Saturday, having delivered a quality start. He allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Flexen later said he wasn't feeling very comfortable on the mound in the last few innings. It remains to be seen whether Flexen misses any time, but he did not seem overly concerned. For the year, Flexen has a 10-5 record with a 3.78 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 85 strikeouts in 126 1/3 innings. He's a safe fantasy option despite his lack of whiffs.

Sun Aug 8 202100:39Chris Flexen Strikes Out Seven Yankees
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen has been the most consistent rotation option for Seattle this year, with his only downside in fantasy being his lack of strikeouts. On Saturday, Flexen lasted five innings against the New York Yankees, giving up three runs on eight hits and one walk. He allowed two home runs and struck out seven batters. It wasn't the outing Flexen wanted, but he did strike out more than a batter per inning for just the second time this season. If that rate were to stay high, he'd be a well sought-after fantasy play.
