Sun Feb 1113:20Wandy Peralta And Luis Patino Dealing With Visa Issues
San Diego Padres relief pitchers Wandy Peralta and Luis Patino are both dealing with visa issues as pitchers and catchers are reporting for spring training. Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters on Sunday about the visa issues for the two aforementioned arms but did not expand beyond that. It's a fairly common issue with foreign players and it should be sorted out soon enough to give Peralta and Patino plenty of time to ramp up for the regular season. Peralta is coming off an excellent season with the New York Yankees in which he registered a 2.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 51:30 K/BB ratio to go along with four saves over 54 innings of relief. Patino, who started his professional career with the Padres, was optioned by the Rays last season before being traded to the Chicago White Sox for cash. The Sox designated him for assignment back in December before the Padres claimed him off waivers. He hasn't shown much in the majors so far (5.02 ERA, 1.496 WHIP in 136 1/3 career innings) but is still just 24 years old. Both players have a shot to contribute to the San Diego bullpen this season.

Wed Jan 3114:07Wandy Peralta Agrees With Padres On Four-Year Deal
Free-agent left-hander Wandy Peralta and the San Diego Padres agreed to a four-year, $16.5 million deal on Wednesday that includes three opt-outs, according to sources. The deal is still pending a physical. Peralta got a bit lucky last year with the New York Yankees, posting a 2.83 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with four saves, 30 walks and 51 strikeouts in 54 innings over 63 appearances out of the Yankees' bullpen. If Peralta wants to keep an ERA under 3.00 for the third straight season in 2024, the 32-year-old is going to need to show better control of his pitches. The veteran southpaw has a career strikeout rate of under 20 percent as well, so he relies on a high ground-ball rate to have success. Peralta will handle high-leverage relief innings in San Diego but probably won't see many save chances.

Tue Jan 2300:18Yankees, Mets Interested In Wandy Peralta
The New York Yankees and New York Mets are reportedly interested in free-agent relief pitcher Wandy Peralta. The 32-year-old pitched well for the Yankees last season, going 4-2 with four saves and 18 holds along with a 2.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 22.5% strikeout rate. The Yankees have maintained contact with Peralta over the offseason. He does not offer a ton of strikeout upside and will likely not see many save opportunities regardless of where he goes, but Peralta could be fantasy-relevant in saves-plus-holds leagues should he slot back into a middle-to-late-innings role.

Fri Sep 22 202312:24Wandy Peralta's Season Is Over
The New York Yankees placed left-handed relief pitcher Wandy Peralta (triceps) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 19) on Friday with a left-triceps strain and recalled pitcher Yoendrys Gomez from the minors in a corresponding move. Peralta will finish the 2023 season with a strong 2.83 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 54 relief innings pitched as well as four saves, but he was fortunate to have such a low ERA while walking 30 batters. The eight-year veteran will head to the free-agent market this winter. Peralta is good at limiting hard contact and generating plenty of swings and misses, but he's going to need to limit the free passes if he wants to continue being successful at the big-league level in 2024.

Wed Sep 20 202323:33Wandy Peralta Dealing With Triceps Injury
New York Yankees relief pitcher Wandy Peralta (triceps) is dealing with some "tricep stuff," according to manager Aaron Boone. Peralta hasn't pitched in almost a week and could be in danger of missing the remainder of the 2023 regular season. If this is the end of the line for the 32-year-old Dominican southpaw, he will finish the year with a 4-2 record, a solid 2.83 ERA (5.05 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, four saves, 30 walks and 51 strikeouts in 54 relief innings over 63 appearances out of the bullpen for the Yankees. Peralta has been pretty fortunate to have an ERA under 3.00 on the year with a bloated 13.2 percent walk rate, his highest walk rate since 2018 when he was with the Cincinnati Reds.

Mon Jun 5 202301:59Wandy Peralta Notches Rare Save
New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Wandy Peralta got the final four outs of the team's 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, securing his fourth save of the season. Peralta allowed just one baserunner, a walk, and had no strikeouts. It was a nice bounce-back for Peralta, as he had just allowed two runs the day prior without recording an out. The save was the lefty's first since April 16, and it's hard to say if he is likely to get more opportunities given the way the Yankees use their bullpen. He should see some chances, but they certainly have other options they aren't afraid to go to. In deeper leagues Peralta should be rostered for the chance he gets a few saves, but outside of that and saves plus holds leagues, he can be left to waivers.

Wed May 17 202300:20Wandy Peralta Earns Third Save Of Season Tuesday
New York Yankees relief pitcher Wandy Peralta picked up his third save of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays. Peralta entered to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a groundout, allowed a walk, had another runner reach on an error, and ended the game with a double play. The veteran has now earned saves in each of his last three appearances and has pitched well with a 1.65 ERA and a 9.37 K/9 rate, although walks have been an issue at a 5.51 BB/9 rate. It appears that Clay Holmes is out of the saves equation now, as he pitched the eighth inning of this game. Michael King has also seen save opportunities lately, earning the save in Monday's game. At this point, both Peralta and King are worth rostering in roto leagues.

Sat May 13 202321:32Wandy Peralta Notches Second Save
New York Yankees reliever Wandy Peralta allowed one walk while striking out one across a scoreless inning to earn the save during Saturday's 9-8 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 31-year-old worked around a two-out walk to earn his second save of the season. The Yankees called on Peralta for the chance, with primary closer Clay Holmes pitching in the seventh and eighth inning. Peralta owns a 1.76 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts across 15 1/3 innings in 2023. Fantasy managers searching for saves can add Peralta as a speculative add in deep-league formats.

Sat Jan 14 202312:36Wandy Peralta Settles At $3.35 Million
The New York Yankees and left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.35 million deal. The 31-year-old Dominican southpaw was very sharp out of the bullpen in his second season in the Bronx, posting a career-best 2.72 ERA (2.86 FIP), 1.05 WHIP, four saves and 21.1 percent strikeout rate in 56 1/3 relief innings. Peralta was very useful for the Yankees in relief last year, but he doesn't project to carry much fantasy value in middle relief for the 2023 campaign. In his seven big-league seasons, he has a 4.07 ERA (4.40 FIP), 1.38 WHIP, nine saves and 240 strikeouts in 291 2/3 career innings over 322 outings (one start).

Tue Aug 24 202123:43Wandy Peralta Picks Up Fifth Save
New York Yankees relief pitcher Wandy Peralta notched his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Braves. Peralta entered the game in a tight spot in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and just a one-run lead, though he eventually won a nine-pitch battle against Freddie Freeman to notch the save for New York. Aroldis Chapman has been a bit shaky since returning from the injured list, leaving the door open for players such as Peralta, though the latter would seem like an unlikely candidate for saves moving forward with all the other high-leverage options in the Yankee bullpen.

Tue Aug 10 202110:24Wandy Peralta Picks Up Third Save
New York Yankees relief pitcher Wandy Peralta notched his third save of the season in Monday's 8-6 win over Kansas City. Peralta was part of a revolving door of relievers for the Yankees as they attempted to close out the Royals in the late innings, with the former finally getting the job done in the 11th frame. The lefty put two runners on base but managed to lock down the victory for New York. An unexpected closer, the former Giant only pitched the ninth because the Yankees had utilized their more trusted relievers earlier in the contest. Peralta has pitched to a 4.29 ERA in 21 innings, though he has limited value as he's mostly pitched in lower leverage situations.

Fri Aug 6 202123:53Wandy Peralta Strikes Out Two As Opener
New York Yankees relief pitcher Wandy Peralta was solid as the first arm in a bullpen opener Friday against Seattle. Peralta pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits while fanning a pair of batters, throwing 20 of 26 pitches for strikes. It was a solid appearance by the lefty, his first since being activated off the COVID-19 injured list. Peralta has been a better pitcher since coming over from the Giants via trade- though he's still far from fantasy relevancy with a 4.74 ERA and just four holds this season.
