Tue Dec 12 202313:44Rob Zastryzny Signs Minors Deal With Brewers
Free-agent left-hander Rob Zastryzny has signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to big-league spring training on Tuesday. Zastryzny made 21 appearances (one start) for the Pittsburgh Pirates last year and went 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA (4.32 FIP) and 1.79 WHIP with 13 walks and 15 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings pitched. The 31-year-old southpaw also wasn't very effective in the minors for Triple-A Indianapolis. In five major-league seasons with the Pirates, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels, Zastryzny has a 4.70 ERA (3.86 FIP) and 1.58 WHIP with 30 walks and 49 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings pitched. He's nowhere near the fantasy radar and is likely to begin the 2024 season as minor-league relief depth for the Brew Crew.

Wed May 10 202312:25Rob Zastryzny Throws Bullpen Session
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Rob Zastryzny (elbow) threw a live bullpen session on Tuesday and will throw another later this week. He could go on a minor-league rehab assignment next week if he comes out of his next bullpen fine. Meanwhile, reliever Wil Crowe (shoulder) received a platelet-rich plasma injection and is two weeks into four weeks of not throwing. Zastryzny has been out since mid-April with left ulnar neuritis, but he's recovering nicely and could rejoin Pittsburgh's bullpen soon. The 31-year-old southpaw can be ignored for fantasy purposes, though, in middle relief. In 5 2/3 innings before his injury, he had allowed five runs on six hits while walking five and striking out six batters.

Wed Mar 29 202313:26Rob Zastryzny Expected To Make Opening Day Roster
It's looking like Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Rob Zastryzny will make the team's Opening Day roster in a bullpen that also will include closer David Bednar, Wil Crowe, Colin Holderman, Duane Underwood Jr., Chase De Jong, Dauri Moreta and Jose Hernandez. Zastryzny, a 31-year-old left-hander, made the club by not allowing a run over 7 1/3 Grapefruit League innings while walking one and striking out 10 batters in six appearances. He doesn't have much major-league experience, with just 38 2/3 innings pitched over 24 outings (one start) in four seasons, but he'll be a key left-hander out of Pittsburgh's 'pen to start the 2023 campaign.
