Wed Apr 1709:41Reynaldo Lopez Continues Success
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez continued his hot start to the season with a victory on Tuesday versus the Houston Astros. Lopez tossed six innings and allowed four hits, no runs, one walk and struck out seven. Lopez has been a reclamation project for the Braves after spending the bulk of his career with the Chicago White Sox, who had him pitching out of the bullpen. So far, Lopez has earned an A+ and is 2-0 with a sparkling 0.50 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in three starts. Lopez should be rostered in all formats, not only due to his success early on, but the bevy of injuries to pitchers in general. Managers should consider that Lopez has not been a full-time starter since 2019 and it will be interesting to see how he handles a full workload as the season continues. The right-hander will look to keep things going versus a weak Miami Marlins offense on Tuesday.

Mon Mar 1810:19Reynaldo Lopez Named Fifth Starter
The Atlanta Braves have rewarded Reynaldo Lopez with the fifth spot in the rotation, beating out Bryce Elder among others. Lopez, 30, has been a reliever for the past couple of seasons, but the Braves had big hopes that he could return to his original position as a starting pitcher and so far, so good. In the Grapefruit League, Lopez allowed four runs with six walks and 13 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. It has been a few seasons since he was a regular as a starting pitcher, but pitching for one of the best teams in the league, Lopez makes for an intriguing end of the draft flier.

Tue Mar 1200:56Braves' Rotation Spot Down To Reynaldo Lopez, Bryce Elder
The Atlanta Braves final rotation spot is currently down to Reynaldo Lopez and Bryce Elder, per MLB.com's Mark Bowman. AJ Smith-Shawver put forth an impressive spring but was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. Lopez has looked excellent this spring, while Elder has yielded poor results. Elder put forth a decent 2023 season for the Braves over 31 starts, while Lopez hasn't made multiple starts in a season since 2021. Either way, whichever pitcher earns the spot will hold at least steaming appeal in fantasy leagues given the strong lineup behind them.

Fri Feb 2316:23Reynaldo Lopez Could Be Favorite For Final Rotation Spot
MLB's Mark Bowman writes that it feels like Atlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez might be the early favorite to start the year as Atlanta's fifth starter behind Max Fried, Spencer Strider, Charlie Morton and Chris Sale. However, how long Lopez remains a starter remains to be seen. He hasn't thrown more than 66 innings in any of the last four seasons, so the Braves will need to closely manage his workload. Lopez had a 4.64 ERA over the 65 starts he made for the White Sox from 2018-19. He could end up back in the bullpen, but the Braves think he can be better than he was with the White Sox as a starter with more experience, better game-planning and a better defense behind him. He's currently competing with Bryce Elder, A.J. Smith-Shawver, Hurston Waldrep and others for the No. 5 rotation job.

Thu Feb 1516:47Reynaldo Lopez Being Stretched Out To Start
Atlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez is being stretched out to start this spring but could end up back in the bullpen, where he's been more successful and where he blew the doors off some notable Braves hitters with his 100 mph fastball last year when he was with the Chicago White Sox. It would be a surprise if the 30-year-old opened the 2024 season in Atlanta's starting rotation. Lopez had the first six saves of his major-league career in 2023 with the White Sox and Los Angeles Angels, also adding a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 34 walks and 83 strikeouts in 66 relief innings. He figures to once again operate in a setup role, but his 97 career starts in eight big-league seasons will give Atlanta some rotation depth in case they have to deal with a plethora of injuries again. Lopez had 22 holds as well in 2023, so he should be a fine target in holds leagues on a much better Braves team.

Mon Nov 20 202314:29Reynaldo Lopez, Braves Agree To Three-Year Deal
The Atlanta Braves and free-agent pitcher Reynaldo Lopez have agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract. While he has largely worked in relief since the 2020 season, the reported plan for Lopez is to stretch out as a starter, as the Braves view him as a player who can help both in the rotation and out of the bullpen. The 29-year-old struggled earlier in his career as a starter but had a 3.43 ERA across nine starts and 11 relief outings in the 2021 season before breaking out with a 2.76 ERA in 61 appearances in 2022, all but one of which came out of the bullpen. It was a busy season for Lopez in 2023, as he saw time with the White Sox, Angels, and Guardians but was effective to the tune of a 3.27 ERA and a career-best 29.9% strikeout rate across 68 relief outings.

Thu Aug 31 202314:08Reynaldo Lopez, Matt Moore Heading To Cleveland
The Cleveland Guardians claimed relief pitchers Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, according to a source. Cleveland also landed starter Lucas Giolito as they try to make up ground in the American League Central -- they're currently five games behind the Twins. The 29-year-old Lopez will move into a late-inning setup role ahead of closer Emmanuel Clase in Cleveland. He's posted a 3.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 55 relief innings in 2023 for the Chicago White Sox and Angels. Lopez also has his first six career saves this year. Moore, a 34-year-old left-handed veteran, will give Cleveland even more bullpen depth for the stretch run. He's been great for the Angels this year, sporting a 2.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 49 punchouts in 44 relief innings.

Sun Aug 6 202313:59Reynaldo Lopez Placed On The Bereavement List
Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez has been placed on the bereavement list on Sunday. The 29-year-old reliever should be absent for a couple of games. Lopez owns a 4.02 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 61:24 K/BB ratio with 11 holds and five saves across 47 innings between the White Sox and the Angels. The team did not announce a corresponding roster move yet but should shortly.

Tue Aug 1 202300:53Reynaldo Lopez Earns Five-Out Save For Angels Monday
Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez earned his fifth save of the season and first for the Angels in Monday's 4-1 win over the Braves. Lopez came into the game in the eighth inning up by two with one out and nobody on. He got the second out on a strikeout, allowed a walk, and got the third out on a groundout. Lopez allowed a leadoff walk in the ninth but got the next three hitters out on a flyout and two strikeouts. Closer Carlos Estevez had pitched two innings in Sunday's game, so newly-acquired Lopez got the call. Lopez has had an erratic season for the White Sox and Angels, converting only half of his save opportunities with a 4.00 ERA, 11.60 K/9 rate, and 4.80 BB/9 rate. While he may pick up a handful of saves the rest of the way, Lopez's questionable ratios limit his fantasy value in all but deep roto leagues.

Thu Jul 27 202301:02Reynaldo Lopez Headed To Angels In Trade
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez is being moved to the Los Angeles Angels as part of a trade featuring starting pitcher Lucas Giolito. The Angels are shipping their No. 2 prospect, catcher Edgar Quero, and No. 3 prospect left-hander Ky Bush, in return. While the significant haul of youth was sacrificed mainly to obtain Giolito's services, Lopez should also help bolster Anaheim's bullpen. The 29-year-old figures to shore things up as a lower-leverage option behind closer Carlos Estevez after the club lost some arms out of the 'pen to injury earlier this year. Lopez struggled as the interim White Sox closer to start the season in the spring, but hasn't given up a run in his last nine innings. The right-hander has posted a modest 4.29 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 52:22 K:BB overall in 2023. Lopez's fantasy value doesn't figure to differ very much with the move at the moment.

Tue Jun 27 202309:10Reynaldo Lopez Takes The Loss Monday
Chicago White Sox reliever Reynaldo Lopez came into the eighth inning of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels trying to preserve a 1-1 tie. The right-hander threw a successful first frame but went back out in the ninth and allowed a leadoff walk that eventually came around to score. It was Lopez's fifth loss of the campaign, and he's now sporting a 5.45 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 33 innings pitched. The 29-year-old had some fantasy value earlier in the season as he recorded four saves before May 6, but he has yet to earn another save since. Fantasy managers can drop Lopez in all standard formats considering his meager numbers.

Mon May 1 202319:27Reynaldo Lopez Dealing With Biceps Issue
Chicago White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez is dealing with some fatigue or dead arm in his right bicep, as per manager Pedro Grifol. Lopez was removed from Sunday's contest against the Rays after facing four batters and allowing three earned runs on two hits, a walk, and a home run. Thirteen of Lopez's 23 pitches were balls while his fastball velocity dipped to 96.6 mph after featuring a heater at or above 98 mph throughout the first month of the season. It's been a struggle for the right-hander to this point as he owns an 8.76 ERA/7.03 FIP with allowing five home runs in just 12 1/3 innings on the season. Control issues have also reared their head by way of a 10.5% BB% despite striking out 33.3% of the batters he's faced to this point. It certainly appears an IL stint could be on the way given the nature of the ailment and early-season results.

Wed Apr 19 202300:58Reynaldo Lopez Earns Four-Out Save Tuesday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez earned his third save of the season in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of a doublehader. Lopez entered the game up three with two outs in the eighth inning and a runner on third. He ended the inning with a strikeout and stayed on to pitch the ninth, closing things out with a 1-2-3 inning and two more strikeouts. Lopez has been the go-to in save situations for the White Sox so far this season and has converted three of four save chances. He has an impressive 15.58 K/9, but he also has a poor 5.19 BB/9 and a 6.23 ERA. At this point, the 29-year-old carries considerable risk in roto leagues, even being the team's preferred closing option.

Tue Apr 11 202300:34Reynaldo Lopez Earns Second Save Of Season Monday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez picked up his second save of the season in Monday's 4-3 win over the Twins. Lopez entered the game to close things out with a one-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. The 29-year-old leads the team in saves in the early going with Liam Hendriks (cancer treatment) recovering from non-Hodgkins' lymphoma. However, he has allowed runs in three of his five outings and has a 7.71 ERA with a 7.71 BB/9 rate and a 15.43 K/9 rate. The inconsistency is something that may frustrate fantasy managers if they stick with him.

Thu Mar 30 202322:06Reynaldo Lopez Earns First Career Save Thursday
Chicago White Sox right-hander Reynaldo Lopez was called on to close out Thursday's 3-2 Opening Day victory over the Houston Astros. He gave up one run on one hit but did enough to earn the first save of his seven-year career. Lopez is coming off his best campaign in the majors, where he posted a 2.76 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 24.8% strikeout rate with nine holds across 61 games. With Liam Hendriks out for the time being, it isn't clear who the White Sox's main arm is for the ninth inning, but cearly, Lopez will be in line for his fair share of opportunities. The 29-year-old might not rack up too many saves if they go with a committee, but fantasy managers should be able to count on a handful from him going forward.

Thu Jul 28 202218:05Reynaldo Lopez Placed On Injured List
The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (back) on the 15-day injured list on Thursday with a lower back strain. They'll make a corresponding roster move prior to Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Lopez's injured-list stint is retroactive to July 25. The 28-year-old hasn't pitched since last Saturday due to his injury, and he'll now miss the next two weeks. Lopez has been great for the Pale Hose in a relief role this year, posting a 2.98 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and only eight walks in 42 1/3 innings over 37 appearances (one start).

Tue May 10 202208:21Reynaldo Lopez Leaves With Back Tightness On Monday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (back) was removed from Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians after the 10th inning due to lower back tightness. Lopez pitched the full 10th inning and gave up one unearned run and showed no signs of an injury. He went out to the mound to warm up for the 11th inning and was taken out before the inning started, so the injury must have flared up during warm ups. Lopez has made 10 bullpen appearances so far this year and he's pitched to a 3.86 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He's already been credited with four wins so far this year to go along with two holds.

Mon Feb 21 202208:54Reynaldo Lopez To Have Major Impact In 2022
Chicago White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez could see significant innings in 2022, according to Vinnie Duber on NBC Sports Chicago. Although Lopez is currently listed as the White Sox sixth starter, he will likely see time as both a reliever and a starter in 2022. He finished the second half of 2021 with a 3.43 ERA, .95 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts across 57 2/3 innings. Lopez could have a major impact for the White Sox and fantasy managers alike if any of the White Sox starters go down for any reason, and can almost certainly be deployed in several spot start matchups against AL Central opponents in 2022.

Thu Sep 9 202118:44Reynaldo Lopez Falls To 3-2
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez went five innings in Thursday's loss versus the Oakland Athletics. Lopez tossed five frames this afternoon and allowed six hits, three runs (one earned), three walks and struck out two. The right-hander has pitched well with the White Sox dealing with injuries to starters Lucas Giolito (hamstring) and Lance Lynn (knee). With Lynn expected back on Sunday and Giolito on Tuesday, the future for Lopez in the rotation remains unclear and it's possible he is sent back to the bullpen. For the season, Lopez is 3-2 with a 2.05 ERA in 16 games (six starts). Lopez can remain on the waiver wire for now.

Sun Sep 5 202109:06Reynaldo Lopez Goes Four Innings In No-Decision
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez went four innings in Saturday's no-decision versus the Kansas City Royals. Lopez filled in nicely when Carlos Rodon missed a few starts last month and with Lucas Giolito (hamstring) and Lance Lynn (knee) both placed on the 10-day injured list earlier this week, Lopez got another chance to start. The right-hander allowed three hits, three runs, one walk and struck out one on the evening. Lopez has been performing well when he has been summoned to make starts for the Pale Hose and he has also pitched well out of the bullpen. Next up for Lopez will be a tough matchup versus the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Lopez is 3-1 with a 2.08 on the season and can be considered in favorable matchups moving forward.
