Sun Apr 708:37Carlos Estevez Locks Down Third Save Saturday
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez nailed down the win for the Halos, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning of Saturday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox. Estevez threw 15 pitches, 10 of them for strikes, and didn't allow a hit or a walk while striking out one batter on his way to a third save. The 31-year-old has been good thus far in his three appearances, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out one. Estevez saved 31 games for the Angels last season, striking out 79 batters in 62 1/3 IP on his way to his first All-Star selection. He's rostered in just 71% of Yahoo leagues, so managers in need of saves should pick him up immediately.

Tue Apr 200:32Carlos Estevez Earns Second Consecutive Save Monday
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez picked up his second save of the season in Monday's 7-4 win over the Marlins. Estevez came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by three. He allowed a leadoff single but then induced a ground-ball double play and got a fly-out to end the game. The 31-year-old was thought to have competition when the team signed Robert Stephenson (shoulder) this off-season, but Stephenson's injury and Estevez's 31 saves in 2023 make it his job to lose at this point. He has converted both save opportunities with one hit, no walks, and no strikeouts.

Mon Apr 100:19Carlos Estevez Earns First Save
Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Carlos Estevez picked up his first save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Estevez had zeroes across the board in his inning of work, as he didn't allow a baserunner and didn't strike anyone out either. After a rough second half of 2023, there were some questions about Estevez's status as Angels closer. Fortunately for him, the newly acquired Robert Stephenson got injured late in Spring Training, leaving Estevez as the only real option to close out games. If he can continue to succeed he should maintain the role even when Stephenson returns, but if he falters the Angels' might be quick to make a change.

Wed Feb 2812:30Angels Confirm That Carlos Estevez Is The Closer
Los Angeles Angels skipper Ron Washington confirmed that right-hander Carlos Estevez is the team's closer to open the season. "Right now, we've got him as a closer," Washington said. "So we don't need to talk about that." The 31-year-old is coming off a season that saw him register a 3.90 ERA with 78 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings. He was a first-time All-Star and saved a career-high 31 games in 35 tries. However, he was much better in the first half, posting a 1.80 ERA in 35 innings before having a 6.59 ERA in 27 1/3 innings in the second half. Estevez said that when he struggled, it was more mental than physical, so he's not too worried. However, if Estevez struggles like he did in the second half in 2023, Robert Stephenson could be an option to replace him in the team's closer role.

Tue Jan 2320:37Carlos Estevez Is The Closer On Paper For Angels
Newly signed right-handed reliever Robert Stephenson said that he doesn't expect to fill in for closing duties in 2024, but he will if necessary. Meanwhile, general manager Perry Minasian noted that right-hander Carlos Estevez is the closer on paper, but the final decision will be made by manager Ron Washington. Estevez made his first All-Star team in 2023 with the Halos and had a career-high 31 saves in 62 1/3 relief innings, but he had an ERA approaching 4.00 and had a 6.59 ERA in the second half. The 31-year-old will probably open the 2024 regular season as the Halos' primary ninth-inning arm, but Washington could have him on a short leash early on, especially if his struggles from the second half of last year resurface. And on another Angels team that probably won't be a contender, Estevez will have shaky fantasy value at the closer position.

Fri Sep 22 202300:44Carlos Estevez Blows Save Thursday
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez was unable to close out the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, taking the loss and the blown save in a 5-4 defeat. Estevez was tasked with holding onto a one-run lead, but he wasn't able to convert as he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over IP. Estevez has been good for the most part this year, but he has been prone to blow-ups on occasion. The righty has allowed either zero or two-plus runs in every outing since the start of August. That is definitely not ideal for managers who need ratio help. He will likely close out the season as the Angels closer, but what happens next year is up in the air.

Los Angeles Angels reliever Carlos Estevez logged his 30th save of the season as his team beat the Guardians 2-1 on Sunday. Estevez entered the contest in the ninth frame with a one-run lead. Los Angeles Angels reliever Carlos Estevez recorded the save during Wednesday's 10-8 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out a pair. It was his 29th save of the season, and he also owns a 3.33 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 67 strikeouts across 54 innings of work. Estevez doesn't have much competition for the closer role and will continue to receive the majority of save situations. Fantasy managers can start the 30-year-old in all standard formats.

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Carlos Estevez was tasked with holding a one-run lead versus the Houston Astros on Sunday. The right-hander has put together some rough outings lately, but was able to get back on track here. Estevez only needed 12 pitches to retire all three batters in order, including two strikeouts. The 30-year-old recorded his 25th save of the season as he continues to be one of the better surprise stories out of the bullpen. Estevez holds a 3.42 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 56/27 K/BB ratio across 47 2/3 innings this season.

Fri Aug 4 202300:42Carlos Estevez Stumbles Against Mariners, Takes Blown Save
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez got blown up on Thursday, allowing four earned runs on two hits and two walks in a 5-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Estevez ended up taking both the blown save and the loss in this one, as he came into the game with a 3-1 lead. The righty has now allowed nine runs in his last three appearances, although the five before tonight's game were all unearned. It is a tough time for the breakout reliever to start struggling, as the Angels are in the thick of a tough wild card race in the AL. If the Angels were to make a switch, Reynaldo Lopez may be the next man up, although it is likely Estevez will get a few more chances before that happens.

Although his chances have dried up recently, he remains a solid fantasy option and should be universally rostered.

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Carlos Estevez was called upon to protect a three-run lead versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The 30-year-old has converted all 21 of his save chances this season. He also holds a 1.85 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 34 innings. That being said, Estevez should be rostered in all leagues where closers matter.

Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez earned his second win of the season in Monday's 2-1 game against the White Sox. Estevez came in to pitch the top of the ninth with the game tied and turned in a scoreless inning with one hit, no walks, and no strikeouts. The Angels were able to score a run in the bottom of the inning, making Estevez the pitcher of record. He has been one of baseball's top closers so far and should continue to be a fantasy asset.

Mon Jun 19 202301:00Carlos Estevez Gets Back On Track Sunday
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez secured his 19th save of the season on Sunday in a 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. Estevez threw a perfect ninth, striking out one in the process. This was a nice bounce-back effort for the righty, who had a rough outing Thursday when he walked three before being pulled. For the season, Estevez has a 1.74 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 40 strikeouts in 31 IP. He has been as solid as they come and should continue to get a decent amount of chances on a solid Angels team.
