Fri Apr 1919:30Nick Burdi Heading To Injured List
New York Yankees relief pitcher Nick Burdi (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday. This is a tough blow to the Yankees bullpen that is already dealing with injuries. Burdi was pitching well as he hasn't allowed a run through 6 1/3 innings this season. The Yankees are hopeful that it'll be a minimal stint on the injured list for Burdi. In a corresponding move, right-hander Cody Morris has been recalled from Triple-A to take the spot on the active roster.

Sun Nov 1 202018:14Pirates designate Nick Burdi for assignment after Tommy John
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated reliever Nick Burdi just weeks after the hard-throwing right-hander underwent Tommy John on his right elbow for the second time. The team announced on Sunday that the 27-year-old Burdi had surgery to repair his right elbow on Oct. 14 in Dallas with Texas Rangers head team physician Dr. Keith Meister. Burdi initially received a Platelet-Rich Plasma injection in August after going on the injured list with what the team described as a forearm strain. Burdi went 0-1 with his first big league save with a 3.86 ERA in three appearances in 2020 before going on the injured list. He was re-evaluated last month and surgery was recommended. The full recovery time is estimated at 16-18 months, ruling Burdi out for the 2021 season. The setback is the latest in Burdi's star-crossed career. He had Tommy John surgery in 2017 while pitching in the Twins' organization. He reached the majors with the Pirates in 2018 and made the team out of spring training... [More]

Wed Aug 12 202016:53Closer Kela's return gives beleaguered Pirates a boost
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A surprising positive COVID-19 test when he arrived at summer camp forced Pittsburgh Pirates closer Keone Kela to get creative to find ways to say in shape. Really creative. With PNC Park off limits while he followed Major League Baseball's health protocols, Kela started riding around the city with a stash of balls, a net and time to kill. He long tossed into a net in the parking lot at the Pittsburgh Zoo. He played “Wall Ball” off the pillars of the Fort Duquesne Bridge. He rolled through the South Side bar district in search of open space to let it rip.“I’ve seen Pittsburgh now during this quarantine,” Kela said with a laugh on Wednesday. The view will change considerably on Thursday for Kela when he joins the injury-ravaged Pirates for a four-game series in Cincinnati. Six Pittsburgh pitchers currently find themselves on the injured list, including relievers Kyle Crick, Clay Holmes and Nick Burdi. The strain on those left has been obvious. The last-place Pirates are 27th... [More]

PITTSBURGH (AP) — An unexpected break didn't stop the steady stream of pitchers to the injured list for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team placed opening day starter Joe Musgrove on the 10-day IL Tuesday with what manager Derek Shelton called a right triceps issue. Wed Jul 29 202002:36Benches clear in testy rematch as Dodgers beat Astros 5-2
HOUSTON (AP) — Benches cleared Tuesday night during the Dodgers’ 5-2 victory over the Astros in the first game between the teams since it was revealed that Houston illegally stole signs en route to a 2017 championship that came at Los Angeles’ expense in the World Series. The fracas occurred after Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly threw high-and-tight pitches to Astros stars Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa in the sixth inning. Kelly threw an errant breaking ball over Correa’s head. Correa, who homered and finished with three hits, took off his batting helmet and stared Kelly down before continuing the at-bat. Kelly struck out Correa, then stuck out his tongue and made a face in his direction. Correa started walking toward him and the players exchanged words, prompting the benches to clear in the first such incident of this pandemic-delayed season. There was plenty of yelling and crowding — outlawed as MLB tries to play a 60-game season amid the pandemic — but no pushing or punches thrown.Order was... [More]
