Free-agent first baseman Rowdy Tellez is signing a one-year, $3.2 million deal on Tuesday with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The deal comes with $800,000 in performance bonuses. Tellez sticks in the National League Central division following two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .218/.300/.430 with 48 home runs, 32 RBI, a triple, 136 RBI and 93 runs scored in 258 games. The left-handed slugger took a step back this past season, though, hitting .215 (67-for-311) with only 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 105 games played for the Brew Crew. The 28-year-old will get run against right-handed pitchers at first base with the rebuilding Pirates in 2024, but Tellez doesn't offer much outside of some power as a corner infield option in NL-only leagues.

His slash line was underwhelming after molding a .219/.306/.461 triple line this past season, but that's typical for a sole power hitter. The first baseman accumulated a 115 OPS+ and drove in 89 runs. His .306 on-base percentage was at the root of his low average, but playing in the WBC could help him out. Not to mention, Tellez also received an offer to play for Israel in the WBC.

It was his only hit in four at-bats. Tellez has hit for a low .222 average all year, but his 60 walks and .469 slugging percentage have brought his OPS to a respectable .779 in 568 plate appearances. The 34 round-trippers are a career high, and Tellez has provided solid power to fantasy managers for practically no cost all year.

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez left Monday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with right knee discomfort. Tellez left the game after coming around to score from first base on a Hunter Renfroe double in the fourth inning. The Brewers replaced him at first base with Keston Hiura. Tellez went 1-for-2 with a run before leaving the game. It doesn't sound like the injury is serious but stay tuned as the Brewers are likely to update his status sometime before Tuesday's game.
