Wed Jul 23 201415:59Sidney Rice hangs up cleats at 27 years old
Sidney Rice has retired from the NFL after 7 seasons.
Rice is just 27 years old, and theoretically should be in the prime of his career. But Rice has missed a total of 31 games in his seven seasons. He's reportedly retiring because of a history of concussions. Rice was knocked out a number of times in his playing career and also was trying to return from a torn ACL. What once looked like a promising career after an 83-catch, 1,312-yard, 8-touchdown 2009 season with the Vikings has ended in sad fashion. Rice caught a total of 243 passes for 3,592 yards and 30 scores. He went to one Pro Bowl.

Sun Jul 20 201411:33Sidney Rice competing for roster spot
ESPN Seahawks reporter Terry Blount considers Sidney Rice the "odd man out" at receiver entering training camp.
Blount left Rice off his initial 53-man roster projection. Rice doesn't contribute on special teams and has lost a considerable amount of explosion after numerous injuries. If he's not a top-three receiver, Rice doesn't bring much to the team. He's competing with rookie Kevin Norwood and special teamer Ricardo Lockette for a roster spot. Rice brings zilch to the table in terms of fantasy value.

Tue May 27 201419:27Sidney Rice expected to be ready for camp
Sidney Rice (knee) has been limited to individual drills in OTAs, but is expected to be ready for training camp.
Coach Pete Carroll said Rice is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from his 2013 ACL tear. Rice went down in Week 8. Among the league's most brittle players, we'd take a believe-it-when-you-see-it view on Rice's health.

Thu Apr 17 201409:50Sidney Rice brings injury red flags, as usual
Sidney Rice has played in 16 games just twice in his seven-year career.
The oft-injured Rice has missed 25 games over the last four seasons and is now coming off his most series ailment yet -- a torn ACL. Despite being just 27 years old, his body is beaten down. Rice was re-signed by the Seahawks Wednesday to be part of the group that replaces Golden Tate, not the whole answer. Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse will get plenty of snaps in the Seattle's run-heavy scheme.

Wed Apr 16 201419:54Seahawks bring back Sidney Rice on 1-yr deal
Seahawks re-signed WR Sidney Rice to a one-year contract.
Rice announced his return on his Twitter account. He flirted with the Jets on Wednesday, but that might have been a play to get the Seahawks to step up their efforts. Rice has mostly been a disappointment with the Seahawks the past three seasons and was released by the team in February, but he possesses a strong pair of reliable hands and can play on the outside. After losing Golden Tate to the Lions, the Seahawks were in the market for a a receiver.

Wed Apr 16 201418:32Sidney Rice visiting the Jets on Wednesday
Free agent Sidney Rice is visiting the Jets.
After locking up Chris Johnson earlier Wednesday, the Jets are now turning their attention to Rice. Rice was just cleared for football activities earlier this week, five months after tearing his ACL. He and GM John Idzik know each other from their days together in Seattle. Rice would be a passable No. 2 receiver opposite Eric Decker with Jeremy Kerley manning the slot. Rice should be cheap.

Tue Apr 15 201411:41Report: Sidney Rice a long shot for Panthers
ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton considers free agent Sidney Rice a "long shot" to sign in Carolina.
Rice would be a good fit with the Panthers and shouldn't be expensive, but Carolina has next to no money to spend and doesn't have a lot of ways to create more cap space. The Seahawks have over $15 million in cap room and would be our guess for Rice's landing spot on an incentive-based, one-year deal.

Tue Apr 15 201410:18Giants not expected to be hot after Sid Rice
ESPN New York doesn't expect the Giants to make a serious run at free agent Sidney Rice.
Rice was linked to the Giants, along with the Panthers, Seahawks, and Saints, by Profootballtalk on Monday. The G-Men could get involved if Rice's market is colder than expected, but they're not looking to dish out much cash. The Giants could use a No. 2/3 receiver type, but they're not in dire need of one with Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan ready to take the next step behind Victor Cruz.

Tue Apr 15 201409:46Report: Seahawks interested in Sidney Rice
The Everett Herald reports the Seahawks would be interested in re-signing free agent Sidney Rice on a low-cost, short-term deal.
Rice shouldn't be commanding any significant money coming off a torn ACL and multiple injury-riddled seasons. After losing Golden Tate and not addressing receiver in free agency, bringing Rice back would make plenty of sense. Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse could be in line for expanded roles, however.

Mon Apr 14 201419:54Panthers have interest in Sidney Rice
The Charlotte Observer expects the Panthers to show interest in free agent Sidney Rice but at the "right price."
Rice (torn ACL) was cleared for football activities on Monday and will now look to catch on with a team prior to the draft. He shouldn't be commanding anything more than a short-term deal with little guaranteed money due to injury concerns and average numbers. Rice would be a huge upgrade in Carolina, however.

Mon Apr 14 201414:39Free agent Sidney Rice gets medical clearance
A league source tells Profootballtalk.com free agent Sidney Rice (ACL surgery) has been cleared for football activities.
He got cleared by Dr. James Andrews. PFT's Mike Florio reports the Seahawks, Giants, Saints, and Panthers all have "interest of some degree" in Rice, who has been incredibly injury prone in recent seasons but is still only 27 years old. He played college football at South Carolina and would be an excellent fit with the Panthers. Long-armed Rice has always possessed a large catch radius, which would complement Cam Newton's somewhat erratic ball placement.

Thu Apr 3 201412:24Seattle not out of the mix for Sid Rice
ESPN's John Clayton says it's still possible the Seahawks will re-sign free agent WR Sidney Rice.
Teams are taking their time with Rice as he comes off an October ACL tear. He'd at least be a fit on paper in Seattle as an outside receiver capable of helping to fill Golden Tate's shoes. The Jets and Saints have also been linked to the oft-injured 27-year-old.

Mon Mar 17 201412:05Jets and Saints are interested in Sidney Rice
The Jets and Saints are reportedly interested in free agent WR Sidney Rice.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks would also welcome a return. The Jets are certainly the neediest of the group, even after signing Eric Decker to be their No. 1. Still, Rice would just be a flier because he's coming off an ACL tear, was among the more injury-prone players in the league even before that and has only had one high-quality season (2009 with Brett Favre's Vikings).

Thu Mar 13 201420:56Seahawks interested in re-signing Sidney Rice
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks are interested in re-signing free agent Sidney Rice.
Rice could take Golden Tate's old spot on the perimeter of Seattle's offense. Rice was released by the Seahawks in a needed cap maneuver, but the club still believes he can help their passing game. When healthy, Rice remains an effective winner of jump-balls and can score touchdowns. He's also only 27.

Fri Mar 7 201410:54Sidney Rice (knee) to be cleared for OTAs
USA Today's Tom Pelissero reports free agent Sidney Rice (knee) is "on track" to be cleared for the start of OTAs.
Rice tore his ACL on October 29. His new team might not push him much in OTAs, but Rice should be full go for minicamp and training camp this summer. He's been linked to the Panthers. Coach Pete Carroll also didn't rule out a return to the Seahawks. Injury-prone Rice will likely have to settle for a one-year deal.

Sat Mar 1 201420:00Panthers may be landing spot for Sidney Rice
The Charlotte Observer considers the Panthers a possible landing spot for free agent Sidney Rice.
Rice played college football at South Carolina and could be a fit at Z-receiver in the Panthers' offense. He's currently rehabbing from ACL surgery and is expected to be ready for training camp. Rice has major injury concerns, but would be a low-cost signing. Carolina is just $8.54 million under the 2014 cap.

Fri Feb 21 201412:20Seahawks release Sidney Rice, save $7.3M
Seahawks released WR Sidney Rice.
Rice, 27, signed a five-year, $41 million contract with Seattle in July of 2011 and missed 15 of a possible 48 regular season games with various injuries. His 2013 campaign ended in late October due to a torn ACL. Prior to that, he dealt with concussions. It was a no-brainer move for the Seahawks to cut ties with Rice and save $7.3 million versus the cap, as they need money to re-sign far more important players. Rice is said to be "way ahead" of schedule in his rehab but will almost certainly have to settle for a one-year deal in an effort to prove he's healthy. Rice's body is breaking down. He caught just 97 passes in three seasons with Seattle.

Thu Feb 6 201408:21Carroll says Rice is way ahead of schedule
Pete Carroll said Sidney Rice is way ahead of schedule in his recovery from ACL surgery.
Rice is roughly 3.5 months removed from his tear. "Within weeks he was back up with almost total reflection and extension and it's just almost an unheard of type of recovery," Carroll said. "It's so far ahead of schedule, so that's great for Sid. We'll see how that turns out, but right off the bat we've never seen anybody (recover) like that." Rice is fully expected to be cut, thus saving the Seahawks $7 million in cap room. Much like Jeremy Maclin, Rice will likely have to accept a one-year prove-it deal in free agency.
