Astros purchased the contract of SS Brian Bixler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Bixler had a nice spring but didn't make the Opening Day roster until Jed Lowrie was injured. He figures to share the shortstop job with Marwin Gonzalez until Lowrie returns, which could be a week from now. The career .187/.248/.247 hitter can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Fri Mar 23 201215:59Brian Bixler hits second spring homer
Brian Bixler went 2-for-4 and homered as the Astros' leadoff man Friday in a 5-1 win over the Nationals.
Bixler has spent most of his career as a middle infielder, but the Astros have him playing the outfield this spring as he attempts to make the club as a utilityman. With a .333 average, two homers, a triple and three walks in 15 at-bats, he's been as hot as anyone on the club. Still, he's not a long-term piece for the Astros and the team shouldn't be looking at him as more than a 25th man.

Fri Apr 22 201115:14Nats call-up SS Bixler
Nationals purchased the contract of SS Brian Bixler from Triple-A Syracuse.
He'll be taking Jesus Flores' place on the 25-man roster, though the Nationals will have to make another corresponding move, as Bixler was not on their 40-man roster. Fri Apr 22 201114:54Bixler likely to be recalled
Brian Bixler will likely be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday to take Jesus Flores' place on the Nationals' 25-man roster.
He is reportedly already with the Nats for their weekend series in Pittsburgh. However, with this evening's game being threatened by rain, beat writer Adam Kilgore reports he may not be added to the roster today, as the Nats are expected to wait as long as possible before making the move official since someone would need to be removed from the 40-man roster before Bixler could be added (he is not on Washington's 40-man roster). Regardless, he can be safely ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Mon Mar 14 201110:23Bixler 'in the mix' for a roster spot
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said Brian Bixler is "in the mix" for an Opening Day roster spot.
Bixler is 8-for-18 so far this spring with three doubles, a triple, a home run and five walks. "He's played real good," Riggleman said. "You bring in [Alex] Cora and [Jerry] Hairston, still have [Alberto] Gonzalez. The numbers work against him. I'm sure he knows that. But he's really played well. It's very comforting to know. We've kept him in camp here because he's played so good." If he doesn't make the team initially, Bixler could be one of the Nats' first call-ups.
