Mon Apr 117:43Jeff McNeil Getting A Rest Day Monday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is on the bench for Monday's contest against the Detroit Tigers. McNeil went just 1-for-11 over the weekend in the three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers to begin the season, so the Mets are giving McNeil a day off early to regroup. It's not a great sign for the two-time All-Star after he hit .270/.333/.378 a year after winning the National League batting title in 2022. With the 31-year-old on the bench to start the game on Monday, Joey Wendle will take over at second base for the Mets and will hit ninth against Tigers young right-hander Reese Olson. Wendle is more useful for his infield versatility and is a long shot to deliver meaningful offensive numbers in DFS on Monday.

Fri Mar 2912:01Jeff McNeil Batting Cleanup On Opening Day
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is starting at the keystone and batting cleanup for the Mets on Opening Day on Thursday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. McNeil isn't your typical cleanup hitter with mediocre power, but if he sticks in this position regularly against right-handed pitching, it will give him more opportunities for RBI with Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hitting in front of him. It's a batting order for New York that probably won't last too long once veteran designated hitter J.D. Martinez gets up to speed after signing with the team late in spring training. The 31-year-old McNeil won a batting title in 2022 but disappointed last year and is still dealing with a partially torn UCL that he's playing through. Aside from a useful batting average, McNeil isn't a lock to help with much else.

Tue Mar 1916:28Jeff McNeil Making Grapefruit League Debut Tuesday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (biceps) is making his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday night versus the St. Louis Cardinals, starting at second base and batting cleanup. The Mets have held McNeil out of big-league spring training action up to this point as he was dealing with left-biceps soreness earlier in camp that was related to the partial tear of his UCL from last year. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter will continue to serve as New York's starting second baseman, which gives him fantasy value in mixed leagues, but outside of a solid batting average floor, McNeil doesn't contribute all that much. McNeil is ranked as RotoBaller's No. 29 fantasy second baseman after slashing a disappointing .270/.333/.378 with 10 home runs, 55 RBI, 10 steals and 75 runs scored in 585 at-bats in 2023.

Sat Mar 1620:45Jeff McNeil To Make Grapefruit League Debut On Tuesday
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday after missing time due to left biceps discomfort. McNeil will play five innings in a minor league game on Sunday in preparation for his debut on Tuesday. He is expected to be ready for opening day on March 28th when the Mets host the Milwaukee Brewers. The 31-year-old looks to continue to be an important piece to the Mets' lineup after a down year, by his standards, in 2023. He'll look to improve on his .270/.333/.378 slash line from last season and is projected for a .280/.341/.394 slash line in 2024. With a current ADP of 255.7, McNeil will likely only provide value to fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Thu Mar 1416:02Jeff McNeil Could Play By Sunday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (biceps) could play in a Grapefruit League game by Sunday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. If he doesn't play by Sunday, McNeil should play in a game by next Tuesday. The 31-year-old is scheduled to play defense on Thursday in a minor-league game before facing live pitching in a batting practice session on Friday. The Mets have slow-played McNeil in camp this spring due to issues associated with the partial tear of his UCL that he suffered last year. McNeil is expected to be ready by Opening Day, but his elbow/biceps issue should be a concern after the poor quality of contact he displayed in 2023. He still makes a lot of contact and rarely strikes out, but McNeil doesn't offer much more than a solid batting average in fantasy.

Wed Mar 614:32Jeff McNeil Feeling A Lot Better
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) is feeling "a lot better" and could be back relatively soon, per skipper Carlos Mendoza. Mendoza added McNeil won't require an MRI or other tests. The 31-year-old has been slowed by the left biceps soreness this spring after his 2023 season ended early due to a partial tear in a ligament in his left elbow and he was cleared for full baseball activity in mid-February. McNeil took a step back at the plate in the 2023 season, hitting .270 with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases across 156 games. He struck out in just 10% of his plate appearances but also walked just 6% of the time. He has a middling fantasy outlook for the 2024 season with a lack of power the foremost concern.

Sat Mar 212:47Jeff McNeil Delayed By Biceps Injury
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (biceps) tweaked his left biceps muscle during cage work the other day in camp. The Mets don't think it's a serious injury, but McNeil is nevertheless delayed at spring training at the moment. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter will be held out of action for a few days in hopes that the injury clears up. McNeil still has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day in late March, but it's just another injury concern. He suffered a partial ligament tear in his left elbow late in 2023 and is going to have to deal with the issue again in 2024. The two-time All-Star won the National League batting title in 2022 but fell off with a .270/.333/.378 slash line with 10 homers, 55 RBI and 10 steals in 156 games last year. McNeil is an elite contact guy, but he doesn't move the needle all that much elsewhere for fantasy managers.

Fri Feb 1613:24Jeff McNeil Cleared For Full Activity
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow), who ended last year on the injured list due to a partial UCL tear in his left elbow, said that his follow-up MRI in December showed the continued presence of a tear, which is normal. Doctors cleared him for full activity, and he's a healthy player in spring training. First and foremost, the injury is to McNeil's non-throwing arm, which is good news, but it doesn't mean it won't affect him as a hitter if the injury persists in 2024. The 31-year-old should be New York's primary second baseman, but he'll occasionally see time in the outfield. The two-time All-Star won an NL batting title in 2022, but he disappointed with a .270 average in 2023 while still making plenty of contact and rarely striking out. Power isn't a big part of his game, so fantasy managers will be banking on his average bouncing back and that he's healthy in 2024.

Mon Dec 4 202322:20Jeff McNeil To See Majority Of His Time At Second Base
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said that utility man Jeff McNeil is expected to get the majority of his playing time at second base in 2024, which is why the team is looking to add an outfielder who will play a lot. McNeil played 99 games at the keystone last year but also spent a good amount of time in left and right field for the Mets. It's unclear if the drop in playing time in the outfield in 2024 will cause him to lose outfield eligibility completely for fantasy managers, and his presence at second more often could impact the playing time for youngsters Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty. The 31-year-old McNeil missed the end of the regular season with a partial UCL tear in his right elbow, but he should be healthy and good to go for Opening Day, barring any setbacks between now and then.

Fri Nov 10 202310:08Jeff McNeil Not Expected To Need Offseason Surgery
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said this week that infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow) isn't expected to need offseason surgery after he had an encouraging checkup on his left elbow recently. McNeil was diagnosed with a partial UCL tear in his left elbow and was forced to sit out the final week of the regular season. But the 31-year-old won't go under the knife this offseason and should be ready to go for the start of spring training in 2024, barring any setbacks. Instead of having surgery, McNeil is receiving platelet-rich plasma injections. The two-time All-Star had a disappointing batting average (.270) in 2023 given his .298 career average, and he also had 10 home runs, 25 doubles, four triples, 55 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 156 games in his sixth MLB campaign.

Thu Sep 28 202321:16Jeff McNeil Has Partial UCL Tear
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow) said he will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to help the partial tear of the UCL in his left elbow. McNeil was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, which will end his 2023 season. He and the Mets aren't considering surgery right now, and manager Buck Showalter should be good to go for spring training next year. The 31-year-old's health is one to watch over the winter, and if his injection doesn't fix the issue, he could eventually require surgery that could keep him out for the majority of the 2024 campaign. The two-time All-Star finishes his sixth year with the Mets by hitting .270 (158-for-585) with 10 home runs, 25 doubles, four triples, 55 RBI, a career-high 10 stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 156 games played.

Thu Sep 28 202318:10Jeff McNeil Closes Year On Injured List
The New York Mets put infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow), who is out of Thursday's lineup versus the Miami Marlins, on the 10-day injured list due to a left elbow sprain. After winning the National League batting title a year ago, the 31-year-old turned in quite a disappointing follow-up season overall. McNeil looked like his 2022 self from Aug. 5 on, however, hitting .311 with an .842 OPS, seven home runs, nine doubles, and 21 RBI in 190 at-bats, but it was too little too late for New York's lost campaign. The two-time All-Star hopes his second-half success carries into 2024 as one of New York's primary table-setters. Rookie Ronny Mauricio should have second base all to himself in the final four games of 2023 while Rafael Ortega and Tim Locastro fill the gap in left field.

Fri Sep 15 202312:59Jeff McNeil Goes Yard In Win Over D-Backs
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in the team's 11-1 blowout victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night. McNeil got the start at the keystone with infield prospect Ronny Mauricio out sick and delivered with his ninth home run of the 2023 season. The 31-year-old has hit three of his nine home runs in the month of September and is now slashing .266/.331/.368 with 22 doubles, three triples, 52 RBI, nine stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 601 plate appearances over 145 games for the Mets in his sixth year with the organization.

Sat Aug 19 202311:00Jeff McNeil Heating Up, Homers In Win
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's 7-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The 31-year-old singled in a third-inning run before rapping a three-run jack in the seventh inning. McNeil's recent climb might be too little too late for the Mets, but the 2022 batting champion is at least starting to resemble the hitter he was a year ago. In 14 games since Aug. 4, McNeil is hitting .321 (17-for-53) with three homers, two doubles, and 11 RBI. Fantasy managers in need of average can turn to the contact-hitting McNeil while he's raking, but don't expect much in the way of power or speed going forward.

Wed Jun 28 202316:05Jeff McNeil Sitting Against Left-hander
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers and left-hander Wade Miley. Not only has McNeil struggled against lefties this year -- .230 (17-for-74) with no home runs in 92 plate appearances -- but he has gone 5-for-39 (.128) with no homers, one RBI and 10 strikeouts in 11 games over the past 14 days. Fantasy managers might want to keep the 31-year-old benched until he shows signs of life at the plate. He's hitting .257 (72-for-280) overall with only three home runs, 21 RBI and four stolen bases in 78 games. Danny Mendick is starting at the keystone on Wednesday for the Mets and is in the nine-hole against Miley and the Brew Crew.

Sun Jun 25 202312:16Jeff McNeil Returns To Lineup Against Phillies
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (wrist) is back at the keystone and is hitting seventh in the batting order on Sunday against right-hander Zack Wheeler and the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. McNeil was dealing with left-wrist soreness on Saturday and was held out, but it obviously wasn't too serious to keep him sidelined beyond just one day. DFS gamers should probably look to avoid McNeil on Sunday, as he's gone just 4-for-28 (.143) in his last eight games and is also hitting under .200 (14-for-71) with only one home run and 11 strikeouts in the month of June in 19 contests. In 26 career at-bats against Wheeler, McNeil is hitting .192 with one RBI.

Sat Jun 24 202314:47Jeff McNeil Not Starting On Saturday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (wrist) isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's meeting with Philadelphia. He's dealing with a sore left wrist after injuring it during the series opener on Friday, and it's still unknown if he'll be available off the bench. The 31-year-old is batting .264, a sharp decline from last season, with 71 hits, three homers, 21 RBI, and four stolen bases. However, McNeil has played even worse in June. But hopefully, a day off will do him some good, with Luis Guillorme expected to replace him at the keystone.

Tue May 30 202316:22Jeff McNeil Back In Action Against Phillies
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (groin) has returned to the lineup on Tuesday. He is starting at the keystone and is hitting seventh in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez. Mild groin tightness kept the 31-year-old veteran infielder out of Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies, but after Monday's off day on Memorial Day, he'll return to action against the division rivals. In single-year formats, fantasy managers will want to get McNeil back into their starting lineups, even against a southpaw. In 68 plate appearances against lefties so far this year, McNeil is hitting a cool .291 (16-for-55), although he has no home runs against them and only two total on the year.

Sun May 28 202313:52Jeff McNeil Not In The Lineup On Sunday Against Colorado
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (groin) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. McNeil is dealing with some groin discomfort, according to Mets manager Buck Showalter so he's giving the 31-year-old the day off on Sunday. He will be available off the bench but the Mets are going to be cautious with him. It'll be Eduardo Escobar getting the start at the keystone on Sunday against Austin Gomber and the Rockies.

Fri May 26 202303:20Jeff McNeil Pokes Three Singles, Swipes Bag In Rout
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and his third stolen base of the year as the team buried the Chicago Cubs 10-1 on Thursday. It was the 31-year-old's 16th multi-hit display of the season. McNeil has been hitting second or third quite frequently of late, but that premium lineup placement hasn't boosted his fantasy value. The reigning National League batting champion somehow owns a lower slugging percentage (.368) than on-base percentage (.370). McNeil is now hitting .291 with 22 runs scored, two homers and 16 RBI this year. The table-setting contact hitter remains purely a source of batting average and run scoring in fantasy.
