The Cincinnati Reds designated outfielder Aristides Aquino for assignment on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the Reds selected pitcher Connor Overton's contract from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Colorado Rockies. Aquino was hitting just .049 with one home run in 15 games this year while going 2-for-41 with 23 strikeouts. The 28-year-old was hitless in his last 25 at-bats. There's a chance he could clear waivers and be outrighted to Louisville. Aquino was signed as a 16-year-old and made his big-league debut in 2018 before returning in August of 2019, when he wowed everyone by hitting 14 home runs in August and 19 overall in 56 games. In 122 games from 2020 through this year, Aquino hit .164 with a .618 OPS and 13 homers while striking out 38% of the time.

He has legit 30 home run potential if he can stay in the lineup and keep the strikeouts down, but those are both pretty big ifs at this point.

He has plenty of power in his bat and could be worth a waiver add in deeper leagues while Winker is out.
