The move will create $3.22 million in salary cap space for the Vikings. Greenway was a candidate to be released if he didn't agree to a pay cut as he started to break down at age 32 as he missed four games due to hand and rib fractures and a knee injury. Greenway (knee) was listed as a non-participant on the Vikings' injury report Thursday, Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
During last Sunday's loss at Miami, Greenway heard a pop in his knee when it was bent back, forcing him to the sideline for most of the second half. The reduced run resulted in merely two solo tackles, but a death in the family is likely the primary impetus for his absence so far this week. Expect some clarity to arise in Friday's injury report.
