Tue Apr 1609:42Aaron Nola Has Strong Outing
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola carved up the Colorado Rockies in his longest outing of the season on Monday. Nola went 7 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, one run, one walk and struck out nine. Unfortunately for Nola, his offense could not do enough while he was on the mound and he earned a no-decision. The veteran has really bounced back in a nice way after allowing seven runs (six earned) in his first start of the season as he has given up just three runs combined over his last three starts. Nola has consistently been one of the best starters over the course of his career and remains a must-start in all matchups. Next up for Nola is a dream date with the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

Tue Apr 1600:33Aaron Nola Dominant In Monday's No-Decision
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola turned in a great start but came away with a no-decision in Monday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Rockies. Nola pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with nine strikeouts. The 30-year-old has now turned in three consecutive solid starts after a rough first start, bringing his record to 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA, a 7.33 K/9 rate, and a 3.47 BB/9 rate. He should have an excellent chance to extend his streak in his next scheduled start against the White Sox.

Tue Apr 922:00Aaron Nola Looks To Maintain Dominance Of Cardinals
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola looks to jump-start his season when he squares off with the St. Louis Cardinals and veteran right-hander Lance Lynn in Wednesday's road start. After getting knocked around for 11 hits and six earned runs in his first start of the year versus the vaunted Atlanta Braves offense, Nola launched 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball for a win during his last time out against the division-rival Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old All-Star right-hander has enjoyed plenty of success against St. Louis in the past, as his 2.50 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over 11 career starts versus the Cards both represent his best marks against any National League team. Most recently, Nola is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 34 strikeouts in five appearances (23 2/3 IP) against the Redbirds since 2021. Start him with confidence on Wednesday.

Fri Apr 514:23Aaron Nola In Search Of Rebound Effort Friday
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola will be looking to bounce back in his second start of the season Friday versus the Washington Nationals. The veteran was shelled for seven earned runs on a whopping 12 hits, including two homers, with one walk against just three strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in his season debut against the Braves on March 30. Of course, a matchup with the high-octane Braves is a tough one to begin the season as Nola sees a far better matchup on Friday. He'll take on a Nationals team that ranked 21st with a .309 wOBA last season but their 18.9% K% was the second-lowest in all of baseball. At the same time, the Nats have struck out in an elevated 24.3% of their plate appearances on the young 2024 season.

Wed Feb 2818:31Aaron Nola Looks Great In Spring Debut
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola looked to be in midseason form in his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday when he threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts against the New York Yankees. Nola had a 4.62 ERA in his first 30 starts last year before recording a 2.27 ERA in his final six starts down the stretch. His first spring start was notable because he's never been very good in spring training, carrying a career 5.34 ERA (73 earned runs in 122 2/3 innings). His late-season mechanical adjustments and comfort with MLB's new rules have many believing he'll be much better in 2024. Nola freely admits he struggled in 2023 with the introduction of the pitch timer. But when he started to look at the timer to his left, everything changed. The 30-year-old has a pretty safe fantasy floor as a low-end ace.

Sun Nov 19 202314:19Aaron Nola Signs Seven-Year Extension
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola has reached a long term extension with the organization. The 30-year-old has agreed to a seven-year, $172 million extension on Sunday. The right-hander went 12-9 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 202/45 K/BB ratio over 193 2/3 innings in 2023. He has been a reliable option for the Phillies since breaking into the league in 2017. Nola has thrown more than 180 innings in each of the last five seasons, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign. The deal is pending a physical, but it sounds like Nola is going to stick around in Philly for a long time.

Tue Nov 14 202313:08Yankees Showing Interest In Aaron Nola, Yoshinobu Yamamoto
The New York Yankees are among the most active teams in the starting pitching market this offseason, and sources are saying they are showing early interest in free-agent right-handers Aaron Nola and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Nola is expected to decline his $20.3 million qualifying offer from the Philadelphia Phillies by the deadline early next week, while the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball announced last week that Yamamoto will officially be posted for MLB teams this winter. Nola is more of a known commodity and reliable workhorse, while the 25-year-old Yamamoto has an impressive 1.72 ERA in seven seasons in Japan. He had a 1.16 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 176 innings to just 28 walks in 171 innings in 2023 and will be highly coveted on the open market.

Mon Nov 13 202319:19Braves, Cardinals Interested In Aaron Nola
The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are among the teams showing early interest in free-agent right-hander Aaron Nola, according to sources. Nola has until Tuesday to decide on whether he will accept the $20.3 million qualifying offer the Philadelphia Phillies extended to him last week. He's expected to reject the offer in hopes of securing a more lucrative multi-year deal on the open market. The 30-year-old is reportedly "close" with Braves pitching coach Rich Kranitz, who served as the Phillies' bullpen coach in 2016 and 2017 before being elevated to pitching coach in 2018. Nola had somewhat of a down year in the 2023 regular season, going 12-9 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 202 strikeouts in 193 2/3 innings. Still, he was dominant in the postseason and will be one of the more coveted starting pitchers on the market this offseason.

Fri Nov 10 202300:48Aaron Nola Has Unique Free-Agent Appeal
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell is likely to win the National League Cy Young in 2023, but his highest single-season innings total of 180 2/3 innings matches free-agent right-hander Aaron Nola's lowest in his last five full seasons. The 30-year-old would be an attractive free agent in any offseason, but the way the game is trending, he might have even more appeal now than he would have 10 years ago. Nola is second in innings pitched to only Gerrit Cole in the last six seasons. The last time he was on the injured list was in 2017, and the last time he was on the IL for an arm-related injury was in 2016. He threw 193 2/3 innings in 2023. Only five pitchers worked more than 200 frames in 2023. He relies on a four-seam fastball that has averaged just 93 mph since 2020.

Tue Nov 7 202315:10Aaron Nola Receives Qualifying Offer
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola has been issued a qualifying offer from the club ahead of his potential free agency this winter. Should Nola accept the offer, he will play the 2024 season under a one-year, $20.325 million contract after playing out a four-year $45 million contract that bought out his remaining arbitration years. The right-hander has been a steady force atop the Phillies' rotation since the 2017 season but did have a shaky 2023 season that included a 4.46 ERA across 32 starts. Nola also tossed a superior 2.35 ERA across four starts and 23 innings in the 2023 postseason before the Phillies bowed out to the D-backs in the NLCS. Nola is likely to decline the qualifying offer while searching for a multi-year deal on the open market.

Wed Oct 18 202313:17Aaron Nola Fantastic In Game 2 Victory
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was on point in the easy 10-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series. Nola improved to 3-0 this postseason by tossing six shutout innings, allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out seven. The 30-year-old kept the Snakes off balance all night and was in complete command of his arsenal with the home crowd behind him. Nola has been absolutely dominant so far this postseason after a slightly disappointing regular season, going 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings in his three starts. Depending on how the rest of this series goes, his next start could be in the World Series.

Mon Oct 9 202302:47Zack Wheeler Set To Start Game 2, Aaron Nola Gets Game 3
The Philadelphia Phillies are going back to their aces for Games 2 and 3 of the Division Series against the Atlanta Braves. For Game 2, Zack Wheeler will take the mound against Max Fried of the Braves. In Game 3, Aaron Nola will pitch for the Phils, but it is not yet known who he will face. In the Wild Card round, Wheeler and Nola showed why they have been considered one of the best one-two punches in baseball, throwing a combined 13 innings of one-run ball to lead the Phillies to a sweep over the Miami Marlins. The Braves are a different beast, but if the duo can pitch up to their potential it could mean a date in the Championship Series for the Phillies.

Tue Oct 3 202300:20Aaron Nola To Start Game 2 Against Marlins
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola will start Game 2 against the Marlins in Wednesday's wild-card matchup. Braxton Garrett will oppose him on the mound. The 30-year-old continued his string of inconsistent seasons in 2023, going 12-9 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 25.5% strikeout rate in 32 starts over 193 2/3 innings pitched. He faced the Marlins three times during the regular season and did not fare well, allowing 13 runs (12 earned) in 16 IP with 18 strikeouts, no walks, and five home runs.

Wed Sep 27 202322:47Aaron Nola Won't Pitch Again In Regular Season
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola won't pitch again in the 2023 regular season, with his next start coming in Game 2 of the wild-card series a week from Wednesday. Right-hander Zack Wheeler will get the nod in Game 1. The team's Game 3 starter will depend on how the first two games of the series go, according to manager Rob Thomson. It will most likely be left-hander Ranger Suarez for Game 3, unless the Phillies need him out of the bullpen before then. The Phillies are locked into the top wild-card spot and will give Nola some extra rest before the start of the postseason. Nola struck out 200-plus batters for the fifth time in his career in 2023, but he also had a 4.46 ERA (4.03 FIP) and 1.15 WHIP in 193 2/3 innings over his 32 starts.

Sat Sep 2 202311:31Aaron Nola Looks To Win Fourth In A Row Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola toes the rubber for Saturday's start against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 30-year-old's start comes on the heels of seven scoreless innings of one-hit ball versus the St. Louis Cardinals in his last time out. Nola has shut down the Brewers in his most recent tries against them, toting a 0.87 ERA with 21 strikeouts in three starts (22 1/3 innings) since 2022. It looks like tough draw opposing a hot Milwaukee club averaging 6.1 runs across their last 12 games, but the right-hander represents one of the top pitching plays on the board on Saturday's slate.

Tue Aug 22 202300:27Aaron Nola Tosses Seven Strong Innings Monday, Earns Win
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola earned his 11th win of the season in Monday's 10-4 game against the Giants. Nola pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits (including two solo home runs) and a walk with five strikeouts. The 30-year-old is now 11-8 with a 4.49 ERA and 9.26 K/9 rate. Like a lot of starters this season, Nola has been inconsistent, particularly in the second half. He will look to turn in a second consecutive good start in his next matchup against the Angels.

Thu Aug 10 202314:18Aaron Nola Looking To Get Back On Track Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola will look to get back on the right track Thursday night when he takes the ball against the Washington Nationals. It's been tough sledding for the veteran right-hander of late as Nola has yielded five earned runs in back-to-back starts while he's allowed an average of 3.8 runs per game over his last five. The recent tough stretch has seen Nola's ERA rise to 4.58 and he owns an elevated 1.63 HR/9 but Nola's underlying numbers are solid. He also sports a 3.82 SIERA and a 19.3% K-BB% across 23 starts. The good news is he is pitching where he's been at his best tonight as Nola owns a 3.75 ERA at home versus a 5.15 mark on the road in 2023 while he sports a 3.23 career ERA at Citizens Bank Park versus a 4.18 mark on the road.

Sun Jul 23 202319:07Aaron Nola Posts Quality Start Vs. Cleveland
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola delivered seven innings of three-run ball while striking out seven and walking none in an 8-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians in 10 innings on Sunday. Nola was efficient in this one, needing just 85 pitches to get through seven innings, although he had to settle for a no-decision in the outing. He notched 13 swinging strikes and a 29% CSW in the start. Nola now has a 9-6 record, 4.25 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 133 strikeouts over 133 1/3 innings of work in 2023. Thu Jun 15 202319:08Aaron Nola Secures Sixth Win On Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola picked up the win on Thursday when he allowed four runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over 6 2/3 innings in a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nola was stellar in this start outside of a rough third inning when he allowed all four runs. The majority of the damage came on a Ketel Marte three-run shot in that frame but Nola pretty much shut down the D-Backs before and after that. The nine punchouts were his third-highest total of the season and he was able to pick up his sixth win of the year. Overall, the 30-year-old hurler owns a 4.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 93:24 K/BB ratio over 94 2/3 innings (15 starts). He'll take on the Braves, who tagged him for five earned runs the last he faced them, at home in his next start on Wednesday.
