CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds kept adding arms to their struggling bullpen by acquiring right-hander Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday for two pitching prospects. The Reds sent right-handers Case Williams and Noah Davis to Colorado. On Tuesday night, Cincinnati got relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees for a player to be named. The trio gives the second-place Reds much-needed relief help as they chase the Milwaukee Brewers in NL Central and try to keep the Cardinals and Cubs at bay. “They come with great reports on their character, and we know their track records as pitchers,” manager David Bell said Wednesday from Chicago before the Reds played the Cubs. “We’re always looking to get better, and I think it says a lot about where we are, just as far as believing in what we’re doing and where we’re headed. Can’t wait to add these guys into the mix.” The 31-year-old Givens, who is due to be a free agent after the season, has a 2.73 ERA... [More]

Sun May 9 202114:55Pirates put Moran on IL, Hayes to 60-day Iist, claim Gamel
CHICAGO (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates put infielder Colin Moran on the 10-day injured list with a strained left groin amid several roster moves Sunday before playing the Chicago Cubs. Moran exited Saturday’s game against the Cubs in the bottom of the first inning. He caught a liner and was injured when he ran and dived to first base trying to complete a double play. Moran is hitting .297 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 32 games. Infielder Ke’Bryan Hayes, one of the Pirates' brightest hopes for this season, was transferred from the 10-day IL to the 60-day list. The rookie had a strong spring, homered on opening day at Wrigley Field and then exited early in the second game with a strained left wrist that's sidelined him. The Pirates claimed outfielder Ben Gamel off waivers from the Cleveland Indians, who designated him for assignment Wednesday. He went 1 for 14 with a double and six strikeouts before he was optioned to the Indians’ alternate training site April 17. Pittsburgh also selected outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. to the major league roster and recalled right-handed pitcher Geoff Hartlieb from Triple-A Indianapolis. Stokes was in the starting lineup Sunday against the Cubs and made his major league debut. The Pirates designated right-handed pitcher Michael Feliz for assignment. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Wed Dec 2 202023:07Pirates agree to deals with Taillon, Gonzalez and Feliz
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided arbitration with pitchers Jameson Taillon and Michael Feliz as well as shortstop Erik Gonzalez on Wednesday, signing each for the 2021 season. Taillion gets $2.25 million, Feliz $1 million and Gonzalez $1,225,000. The Pirates also declined to offer a contract to reliever Clay Holmes and assigned catcher Will Craig outright to Triple-A Indianapolis. Taillon, a former first-round draft pick, is expected to return in 2021 after missing most of the last two years following Tommy John surgery. The Pirates are relying on Taillon to anchor a starting rotation that will have a new look next year after the team cut ties with Trevor Williams. Feliz pitched in just three games during the abbreviated 2020 season due to a forearm injury. He could be in the mix to find a role at the back end of the bullpen. Gonzalez faded after a hot start but drove in a career-high 20 runs last season while hitting .227 in 50 games for Pittsburgh, which finished with the worst record in the majors at 19-41. Holmes appeared in just one game for the Pirates last season before being shut down with a forearm issue. He went 2-5 with a 5.91 ERA in 47 games for Pittsburgh from 2018-20. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
