He'll share playing time with Dusty Brown while Chris Snyder and Ryan Doumit are sidelined with injuries. Toregas hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2009 season, when he batted .176 over 51 at-bats with the Indians. The 28-year-old backstop can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

He also received an invitation to major league spring training. The 28-year-old backstop batted .227/.311/.383 in 148 plate appearances last season at the minor league level in the Indians' organization. He had a .176/.267/.196 in 60 plate appearances at the big league level in 2009.

The Tribe designated Toregas for assignment last weekend when they decided that Mike Redmond would be a more suitable backup to starter Lou Marson. Toregas cleared waivers Thursday along with Anderson Hernandez.
