Garces was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Look for Garces to once again serve in a low-leverage role in his fourth stint with the major league club this season. Of the 34 appearances Garces has made with San Diego this year, just 10 have come in games won by the Padres, and he still doesn't have a hold.

Garces was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

The move corresponds to Cory Spangenberg being activated from the disabled list. Garces will continue to offer organizational bullpen depth over the rest of the minor league season and could be recalled in September.

Garces was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

The left-hander will return for his third stint with the major league team this season, replacing Marcos Mateo (neck) on the active roster. Garces has posted just an 18:13 K:BB in 28.1 innings this season, and isn't likely to take on a high-leverage specialist role at any point considering his .726 OPS allowed to left-handed hitters.

The Padres activated Dale Thayer from the DL and optioned Garces in a corresponding move. Garces, a lefty reliever, has posted a 3.81 ERA with 18 strikeouts at the major league level this season.

Garces got the call up after starter Brandon Morrow (shoulder) hit the disabled list, which will move Odrisamer Despaigne from the bullpen into the rotation in all likelihood. With fellow reliever Shawn Kelley nearing a return from a DL stint, Garces may only be up with the team temporarily. However, Garces will provide left handed depth in the bullpen.

The lefty Garces will be up for his second stint in the major league bullpen this season, with Brandon Morrow (shoulder) landing on the 15-day DL. Garces turned in a 1.59 ERA in six appearances with San Diego earlier this season thanks to a 87.5% strand rate and .278 opponents' BABIP.

Garces was optioned to Triple-A after the Padres activated Ian Kennedy off the 15-Day disabled list. Over 5.2 innings of work this season, Garces has tallied four strikeouts and three walks while allowing one earned run.

Garces is the only remaining left-handed reliever in the Padres' camp after Chris Rearick was reassigned to minor league camp Thursday.

Garces became the favorite to be the Padres' lefty specialist when they dealt Alex Torres to the Mets earlier in the week. With Rearick gone, Garces is a near lock to be the southpaw presence in what is a predominantly right-handed bullpen.

Garces has allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks over nine innings of work this spring. He won't be in the running for the closer's job, but will likely slot in as the left handed specialist in San Diego's predominantly right-handed bullpen.

Garces was recalled from Double-A San Antonio on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old dominated lefties to the tune of a .124 BAA and 0.66 ERA in 27.1 innings at San Antonio this season and he fanned 74 in 65.1 frames in total. He may be called upon to record some high-leverage outs depending on the matchups, with Alex Torres struggling mightily in recent weeks, but Kevin Quackenbush figures to handle any and all save opportunities in the short term.

Garces was optioned to Double-A San Antonio on Saturday.

To make room on the active roster for Andrew Cashner (elbow), the team sent the 24-year-old Garces back to San Antonio. Garces did not give up a hit in two appearances after his callup Tuesday, issuing one walk and fanning two in three innings, and he figures to return to the big club once rosters expand. In 47 appearances with San Antonio this season, Garces has posted a skinny 2.07 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.8 K/9.
