Marlins hired Frank Menechino as hitting coach.
The Marlins have also added former major league outfielder Brett Butler as a third base coach and outfield coach. Menechino, who played seven seasons in the majors, has been a coach in the Yankees' minor league system.

Marlins fired team president Larry Beinfest.
It's no surprise, as owner Jeffrey Loria is making more of the baseball decisions these days and a recent report from Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports indicated that a front office shakeup was likely coming. Beinfest has worked with the club since 2002.

Mike Redmond officially announced his retirement Monday.
"I pretty much knew going into the season that this was going to be it," Redmond told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "When I left Minnesota, I wanted to play one more year and see. But it's OK. I fulfilled every goal I had as a player." He will finish up with a .287/.342/.358 career batting line.

Indians designated C Mike Redmond for assignment.
Redmond had made only two starts since Carlos Santana was recalled nearly a month ago. The veteran is hitting just .206 in 63 at-bats this season. He will be replaced on the roster by Chris Gimenez.
