As expected, the Hornet have completed buying out the contract of Matt Carroll, making him a free agent.
Carroll is likely to find a spot with another NBA team, but his chances of offering any fantasy value are slim to none.

Mon Apr 23 201210:34Matt Carroll will pick up his player option
Matt Carroll said he will pick up his $3.5 player option for the 2012-13 season.
The Bobcats strangely signed Carroll to a six-year, $27 million contract in July of 2007. As a fringe NBA player, exercising his option for next season is a no-brainer. Carroll has averaged just 11.6 minutes per game for the 7-56 Bobcats this season.

Fri Jan 27 201222:02Carroll scores 11; Brown scores 11 vs. PHI
Matt Carroll scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting (including a three) with three rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Carroll and Derrick Brown (11 points, five boards, two assists, one block, one three, 30 minutes) are both on the 14-16 team radar right now. Carroll is coming off a 17-point outing on Wednesday. Bismack Biyombo had two points, two boards, and a block in 11 minutes off the bench, as well.

Wed Jan 25 201222:44Matt Carroll starts, scores 17 in loss
Matt Carroll made his first start of the season in place of Gerald Henderson (tailbone) and had a season-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting in 35 minutes on Wednesday.
He didn't hit a 3-pointer tonight, but played very well. Henderson tried to play, but pulled himself at the last second. They're off until Friday, and our guess is Henderson will play in that one, sending Carroll back to the bench and irrelevance.

Sun Apr 3 201122:08Matt Carroll goes off for 26 points in loss
Matt Carroll exploded for 26 points off the bench in Sunday's loss to the Wizards.
Carroll is one of the better 3-point shooters in the league, but this is a fluke. He scored 17 of his 26 in the fourth quarter and Stephen Jackson (hamstring) was sidelined. Carroll is a poor bet for more than 15-18 minutes next game.

Matt Carroll returned from a sprained ankle, but failed to score in seven minutes.
No fantasy value to see here, folks.

Carroll missed Wednesday's loss to the Bulls. With Stephen Jackson (hamstring) back Friday, Carroll will struggle to crack the rotation anyway.

Wed Mar 9 201118:19Carroll (ankle) a game-time call Wednesday
Matt Carroll (ankle) is a game-time decision for Wednesday against the Bulls.
Aside from one 19-point outburst in a 40-point loss on March 2, Carroll has hit double-figures in scoring just once all year.

Mon Mar 7 201122:45Carroll leaves with sprained left ankle
Matt Carroll left Monday's game with a sprained left ankle during the second quarter and did not return, finishing with just two rebounds to his credit over seven minutes.
Normally this would have absolutely no impact on fantasy leagues, but with the Bobcats being so banged up it will funnel more opportunity toward Shaun Livingston and D.J White, albeit in minimal doses.

Thu Mar 3 201102:07Matt Carroll leads Bobcats with 19 points
Matt Carroll hit 6-of-11 shots and two 3-pointers to score 19 points for the Bobcats on Wednesday.
How bad were they in a blowout loss to the Nuggets? Bad enough that they were led in scoring by Matt Carrol. Ignore him, unless he happens to replace a struggling Gerald Henderson in the starting lineup. And if he does, beware that Carroll doesn't really do much of anything other than hit threes.

Mon Jan 10 201123:22Carroll scores season-best 12 points
Matt Carroll scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including two threes) with two rebounds and one assist in 14 minutes off the bench.
This is as good of a line as he has had all year, which tells you all you need to know about his fantasy value.
Tue Dec 21 201023:02Carroll does nothing in spot start
Matt Carroll drew the start for injured Gerald Wallace (ankle) on Tuesday, and scored no points on two shots attempts with one rebound, one turnover, and no other statistics in nine minutes.
If he had any chance to pursue fantasy value, he lost it by disappearing tonight.
Tue Jul 13 201015:17Matt Carroll heading back to Charlotte
Matt Carroll, who enjoyed his best season in Charlotte in 2006-07, when he averaged 12 ppg, has been traded back to Charlotte by the Mavericks.
Carroll struggled to get off the bench for the Mavs but could find a rebirth in Charlotte after a couple really lean years in Dallas. However, he's a couple years older and Charlotte is now coached by Larry Brown, so it's a long shot that Carroll would actually offer fantasy value this season.
