Phillies signed C Lou Marson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
This is a homecoming for Marson, who was once a highly-regarded Phillies prospect. Philadelphia, you might recall, shipped him to Cleveland in July, 2009 along with Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald for Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco. Marson slashed just .217/.308/.295 in five seasons with the Indians and was limited to three games this past season due to a neck injury. Marson will compete with Wil Nieves for the right to be Carlos Ruiz's understudy.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster.
Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."

The 26-year-old suffered a cervical neck strain on the play.
