Thu Jan 2514:33Ronald Guzman Signs Minors Deal With Orioles
Free agent first baseman/pitcher Ronald Guzman has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. The 29-year-old declared last offseason he was attempting to transition into a two-way player but that plan was put on hold when he injured his forearm after throwing a pitch in a spring training game with the San Francisco Giants last spring. He would only make 10 plate appearances for the Giants' Complex League team in 2023, going hitless in that time. He has made two pitching outings in the Dominican Winter League this offseason but issued four walks and two hit-by-pitches in the seven batters he faced, recording just one combined out while allowing three earned runs despite not allowing a hit. It's unclear how the Orioles plan to use him this spring.

Sun Mar 12 202320:59Ronald Guzman Pulled From Sunday's Game
San Francisco Giants infielder/pitcher Ronald Guzman (forearm) was pulled out of Sunday's Cactus League matchup due to injury. Guzman threw a wild pitch to the backstop and immediately bent down in pain afterwards. Manager Gabe Kapler mentioned that Guzman felt something in his forearm on the final pitch that he threw. The expectation is that the organization is going to have Guzman undergo further testing. Hopefully, this injury is minor, but fantasy managers will have to check back for more updates on his status.

Mon Feb 6 202319:44Giants List Ronald Guzman As Two-Way Player
The San Francisco Giants are listing Ronald Guzman as an infielder and left-handed pitcher. Guzman joined the Giants on a minor-league deal this offseason after playing in only three major-league games for the New York Yankees in 2022. He appeared in one game as a reliever at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year and can hit the high-90s with his fastball. It will give the 28-year-old another avenue in order to stick with the big-league team in 2023, but he won't be on anyone's fantasy radar to begin the season. Guzman has played in only 10 big-league games the last two years and holds a .225/.302/.410 career slash line with a .712 OPS, 31 home runs and 104 RBI in five major-league seasons (four with the Texas Rangers).

Thu Jan 19 202318:14Ronald Guzman Signs Minor-League Deal With Giants
The San Francisco Giants signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman to a minor-league deal on Thursday. Guzman spent the first four years of his major-league career with the Texas Rangers, slashing .227/.304/.414 with a .718 OPS, 31 home runs, 104 RBI, 91 runs scored and three stolen bases in 243 games played. He ended up playing in only three games with the New York Yankees in 2022, going hitless in six at-bats with five strikeouts. The 28-year-old will provide the Giants with some depth at the first base position after veteran slugger Brandon Belt left in free agency this offseason.

Sun Mar 13 202223:17Ronald Guzman Signs Minor-League Deal With Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman (knee) to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. He was limited to just seven games last season after suffering a meniscus tear in his right knee in April. The 27-year-old has flashed power with 31 home runs in 737 at-bats over four major-league seasons. The former Texas Ranger is expected to be fully recovered from his knee injury heading into Spring Training. Guzman will have a fresh start in New York, but with no guaranteed full-time role, isn't on the fantasy radar in 2022 even if he makes the big league roster.

Sat Nov 6 202115:15Ronald Guzman Declares Free Agency
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman has declared free agency after being outrighted off the roster on Friday. First baseman Curtis Terry, infielder Anderson Tejeda, and relief pitcher Matt Bush were also dropped from the roster and are eligible to declare free agency. Guzman only registered 16 at-bats in the 2021 season, totaling one hit, a home run, but he has flashed power with 31 home runs in 737 at-bats over four major-league seasons. He has the ability to make a fantasy impact should he land a starting role in 2022, though that would appear unlikely.

Thu Jul 8 202116:58Texas Rangers have unexpected trio going to All-Star Game
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have quite a trio unexpectedly going to the All-Star Game together. There is the veteran pitcher who got only one out in the shortest opening-day start in the majors in nearly four decades; the 6-foot-5 slugger who had only two homers in the first month; and a 28-year-old Cuban rookie who wasn't even on the Texas roster to open the season. With right-hander Kyle Gibson and big-hitting outfielders Joey Gallo and Adolis Garcia headed to Denver for Tuesday night's game, the only teams with more All-Star selections than the last-place Rangers are Boston, Toronto, Houston and San Diego. ”The three of them are as deserving as anyone,” said Brock Holt, who before joining his hometown Rangers this season was a 2015 All-Star in Boston, where the utility player was on Red Sox teams filled with All-Stars from 2013-19. It will be the second All-Star Game for Gallo, who homered on the only pitch he saw in 2019. The 27-year-old Gold Glove-winning right fielder... [More]
Wed Apr 7 202103:23Soto's single lifts Nationals over Braves in delayed opener
WASHINGTON (AP) — Juan Soto drove in the winning run with a single on a 3-0 pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday, lifting the coronavirus-depleted Washington Nationals to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Atlanta Braves after waiting five days to start their season. Lefty reliever Will Smith (0-1) entered for the ninth and promptly gave up a single to new leadoff hitter Victor Robles, and then hit Trea Turner with a pitch. That brought up Soto, the 2020 NL batting champion, and he delivered a line drive to center field. Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson homered against Washington ace Max Scherzer. Acuña drove Scherzer's first pitch of the game deep to left-center, and led off the third with his second homer. Turner hit a two-run shot for the Nationals. Daniel Hudson (1-0) got the win. Because of a COVID-19 outbreak — four players tested positive; seven were forced into quarantine after potentially being exposed — Washington’s first four scheduled games were scrapped.... [More]

Tue Mar 23 202115:53Lowe's patience, Guzman's urgency mark Texas battle at 1B
Nate Lowe's idea of competing to be the everyday first baseman for the Texas Rangers was to take pitches on purpose early in spring training, even if three of them were strikes. Ronald Guzman felt the urgency of something to prove from the start after failing to win the job in manager Chris Woodward's first two seasons and entering this camp out of minor league options. The competition in Surprise, Arizona, might be closer than the Rangers thought when they acquired Lowe from Tampa Bay in a swap of mostly minor leaguers during the offseason. Guzman has three spring training homers to go with his elite defensive skills as Texas also tries him in the outfield as a way to keep him on the roster. Lowe is actually swinging the bat now, as shown with a two-run homer, his first of spring traing, and RBI single when the Rangers rallied to beat Seattle 6-5 last weekend after trailing 5-0. “I know it’s kind of tough looking sometimes and definitely difficult maybe as a teammate or a fan to watch...
